  1. Yeah...Kajiura has a really sexy voice, I think. Which is great for listening purposes, but doesn't exactly fit Mylene's character type... Her solo albums are quite good, too, although they occasionally sound like someone slipped Mylene some Zolan 'shrooms or something. That's a REAL good question. A bunch of us tried to figure it out a while back...we came to the conclusion that it was probably Emilia's voice actress, but we're by no means sure.
  2. Hmmm...sounds like it might be kinda the Frontier version of the Macross Attack Team. Could be worth checking out...
  3. It's never been released, unfortunately. It's too bad, because I like Chie Kajiura (Mylene's singing voice) better than I like Tomo Sakurai...but they got Tomo to do the Mylene Sings Minmay album....and then they got Chie to sing it (and "My Boyfriend's a Pilot") in the show itself. And I still want Chie's version of Light the Light, dammit!
  4. According to Macross Chronicle, he's half Zentradi, but there's probably some Zolan in his blood, too. Which is odd, because humans and Zolans aren't supposed to be able to mate...and I'd assume Zentradi and Zolans would lead to similar failures. Yes, it does indeed say that. http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=680780
  5. Everyone should also enjoy this: http://www.youtube.com/user/ROBOTECHFANPLUS (But before you start flaming him...my irony-sense is tingling; I think it's all a big put-on.)
  6. "I'll get you yet, Roy Focker!"
  7. Well, I guess I can't win against such Engrish-y goodness, can I? Although I'll counter it with the Baxinger Ending: Does the J9 Trilogy count as a hidden gem...? I saw most of Baxinger (J-9 II) in Spanish as "Gladiadores del Espacio." I understood very little of it, but I loved it nonetheless. I've always wanted to go back and watch the whole trilogy in Japanese, but it doesn't seem to be available on the net, and I'm loathe to buy the DVDs to see a series that probably wasn't very good (in retrospect, of course).
  8. For me, it was all about the second opening... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zABrITb2nKQ...feature=related I never really got into the show, mostly because the older kids I got my anime tapes from didn't really dig it, so I only managed to grab an episode here and there. I couldn't afford to get anime soundtracks very often back then, but my dad had hooked up the stereo to the TV, so I made tons of mix tapes of anime theme songs, and the second Dragonar opening was one that I listened to over and over. I finally picked up the CD single in a bargain bin a few years ago. But speaking of possibly obscure animes and theme music, what about ...?
  9. PM'd you.
  10. Lord, yes. Once to go to SDF Macross, you'll never go back. (If you want a taste, just click on my signature... )
  11. That depends on if you take Macross the First as canonical or not. Personally, I think trying to decide what's "canonical" and what isn't in Macross is a pretty useless debate. Although the powers that be PRETEND that the TV series is "what happened," they certainly don't act like it. Even Macross Chronicle, which has jst finished retelling the TV series storyline in its Timeline, still treats DYRL mecha and characters as "real," rather than just a movie. So my advice is to enjoy Macross the First for what it is, and not try to treat it like the answer to our prayers for "fixing" the Macross timeline.
  12. I'm gonna pretend you're being sarcastic...
  13. Yes, I do. Two recommendations for you: First, Macross. Not Macross Saga. Macross. In Japanese. Second, try posting in the right forum.
  14. Still not as bad as the infamous "Where there's a whip...there's a way!" song from Return of the King...
  15. I saw all of them (and every other major slasher movie I could find) for a project I was working on a couple of years ago. You have missed absolutely nothing by not seeing them. Unless, of course, you have a burning desire to see Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover in the same movie. Then you should check out "The FInal Chapter."
  16. You could always watch the old, unremastered version...the quality's not THAT bad...
  17. I'm beginning to think you're doing this on purpose... What can you really say about Jason X? It's an Alien rip-off, with Jason instead of the alien, and liquid nitrogen standing in for the chest-burster. Unnecessary and lame. The main girl was cute, though.
  18. Now, for the Live-Action Evangelion Movie, ADV got WETA Workshops to draw up some concept art, but that's because there was no doubt about what the movie would cover. Should the concept art be Macross or Mospeada related? Something entirely new? Until they know what they're doing with the license, there's no reason to go out hiring people to draw concept art. We're in the early stages of a process that could years or ore to complete. Let them work out a direction, THEN we'll see concept art.
  19. Hmmm? Rankin-Bass did The Hobbit (and Return of the King), Ralph Bakshi did The Lord of the Rings (comprising The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers). I liked Rankin-Bass The Hobbit TV Special...my only problem is that I also had the story album when I was a kid, and I listened to it incessantly. To this day, I still have Orson Bean and John Huston's voices going through my head when I read the book...
  20. Again, I really don't get what is so different about "today's culture." Or perhaps I just missed the oodles of layered subtext and keen attention to symbolism in such big '80s hits as "Rambo," "Crocodile Dundee," "Footloose," "Mr. Mom," and "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter." Hang on, hang on, hang on...Isn't it a little early for that? Big studio moviemaking is an expensive, time-consuming process (regardless of the whether the movie is any good or not). They're still unsure if the movie will get made or what the story will be. Once they have that nailed, THEN they can hire people to do the concept art.
  21. As many times as I've seen this pic, I only now realized that Minmay's wearing Misa's uniform there... "Bitch. You steal my boyfriend, I steal your wardrobe. We'll see who comes out ahead!" And then Minmay realizes that Misa's wardrobe is made up of outfits even her grandma would call old-fashioned...
  22. Not really. Special effects marvel, very suspenseful...but ultimately pretty hollow and empty. I like movies that stick to my ribs, as it were. It makes a good Universal Studios ride, however. What??? Liquid Sky is up there with Repo Man and The Hidden for me...very cool and artsy. Granted, I haven't seen it in a long time...
  23. Ooh, that IS a good one...also used in The Blob, Creepshow, and The Giant Spider Invasion (although there, they weren't technically from space, but from a black hole near some guy's barn). (Yes, you read that correctly. A black hole. Near some guy's barn.)
  24. Good point. I'm not sure what to say about it, though, except that I'm not sure I've ever seen Sam Neill in a good movie... Anyway, what's everyone's favorite overused sci-fi plot? Mine's the one where some astronauts go up into space, but when they come back...something came with them... It worked great in Quartermass. And then sucked horribly in Monster a-Go-Go, The Incredible Melting Man, Species II, and The Astronaut's Wife.
  25. Y'know what else no one's mentioned? A little movie called "Event Horizon."
