  1. You win. Back to topic, Nyan Dra (Dra 2) is out in a couple of weeks. Am I the only one here who bought the first one...?
  2. It's a series of novels currently running in Gundam Ace. It's freakin' long (is it eight volumes so far...?), and my Japanese friends tell me that the author's writing style is, um, "difficult." In other words, we will never get a translation of it. It does, however, feature Mineva Rao Zabi, all grown up.
  3. I've seen her perform more than ten times, and my Japanese professor from UCLA was friends with her, and all three of us hung out together once. So I'm STILL cooler than you.
  4. So in 2030, the SDF-1 was ungraded to become a former Meltrandi Gunship...? Nifty trick...
  5. Me? I'm buying another binder. Consume...you must consuuuuuummmme...
  6. There's gonna be a Mari Iijima interview??? Cool.
  7. I hope I've never come across as slagging FV. As others have said, he put an enormous amount of thought and effort into his postings in this thread and elsewhere, especially considering that English isn't his first language. I do disagree with his conclusions, mostly because A) there's no firm evidence Ohnogi was involved with the production (but that's not FV's fault), and B) he makes a lot of assumptions as to the original direction of the show, none of which could be known to him (unless he's friends with the higher-ups at Satelite). I'm a former lit major...overthinking stuff is what I did SOLELY for four years of my life, and it's something I continue to do. But it's not something I do with Macross. Homer, Dante, Shakespeare...THESE can be dissected and discussed and thought about endlessly, and you'll never demolish them. Macross, however, can't withstand that kind of scrutiny...and because I like Macross, I refrain from looking at it too hard. Maybe that's a mistake on my part... As such, I'm trying not to look to the movie to fix all the flaws of the show. It won't. If it's done well, it'll be a nice little addition to the Macross Universe, nothing more, nothing less. Well...I imagine EVERYONE has heard stories of the film reels for SDFM being dropped off at the TV studio minutes before it was going on air...but I'm sure Kawamori has worked it out so that never happens again. While changes can happen quick, that's not how the producer/director/sponser really WANTS it...it makes the venture a lot less "safe." Frontier was MEANT to start airing at the end of 2007, but ended up being delayed for six months (and yet, they had a first episode ready to air by December)...that, to me, gives some indication of the amount of prep work needed to get the show broadcast weekly. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they had a number of episodes done before the show debuted. So yeah, I'm agreeing with you.
  8. I don't really get that, either...Guld died in 2040, when Mylene was all of nine years old. So either Guld's a pedophile, or Mylene's marrying a zombie. Either way, ya gotta admit it's creepy.
  9. What are you talking about? Do you not find that the stimulation to be found in engaging with other gentlemen using only the most refined speech and manner to be a worthwhile pastime? Do you not think that such verbal ability, manipulation of syntax, and overuse of cultured latinate vocabulary (as has been demonstrated on that website) are the signs of truly fine writing, organized by a master of the English language? Do you, sir, not think that orating in such a way that one's thoughts and opinions become well nigh impenetrable through a thick mist of obfuscation and spiraling noun clauses is not the surest way to glimpse the genius that lies beneath the narrative surface...? ...Whaddya mean, "no"?
  10. Yeah, like that...except I saw a far loopier one that I can't seem to locate now, that included the Zeta Gundam, the Double Zeta, and the FAZZ...it gave Robotech-related backstories for them and everything. Of course, for pure loopiness, it's hard to beat this: http://www.geocities.com/mylenebowman/robotech-hist.html
  11. I'm almost halfway through "Fancy Days" by Hiroshi Ohnogi (the first story in "Dreaming Prelude: My Fair Minmay") and all I have to say is... MAN! I want a Chocolate Parfait Monster!!! (And yes, it's chocolate parfait, shaped like a Destroid Monster. The front gun barrels are replaced by four sticks of Pocky.)
  12. Well...I choose to see it that way, whatever the poster intended. Really, I believe there are only two ways to look at things like this: 1) The poster is grasping-at-straws pathetic, trying to edit anything they can to try to make Robotech relevant again. This is the RPG people, trying to fit Gundams and Evas into Robotech continuity. 2) The poster is being sly, and poking fun at the above fans, and at HG. This is stuff like "Robotech III: Not Necessarily the Sentinels." Considering that I saw Robotech III first, quite a long time ago, I guess it's not surprising that I take anything similar as being a wicked joke. By the way...is Robotech fandom the only one that takes bits and pieces of existing shows and tries to turn them into "original" Robotech works...? Yes...? I thought so.
  13. Hmmm...I think that idea gets a little TOO much creedence. Certainly, but the time of the premiere of the Deculture Edition (December 2007), the triangle was ready...the Preview at the end of the Deculture Edition is spoken by Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl ONLY, and both Ranka and Sheryl say loving words about Alto. It's kind of like saying that Minmay was never meant to be a rival to Misa for Hikaru's affections (nor was she ever emant to be a singer), since in planning stages she was only a waitress at the Chinese restaurant, and her role consisted solely of trotting food up to the bridge. It's verifiably true, but it has little to do with the way the show turned out. So saying that Sheryl got an expanded role...sure, fine. But WHEN did she get it? After half a year of planning? When they were storyboarding the first episode? After episode five aired? When it happens makes all the difference.
  14. NEWS FLASH: The Velvet Underground is STILL the greatest band ever.
  15. Okay, I just registered! I'm in Pasadena...anyone want to carpool?
  16. No, I'm too busy waiting for the new Tommy heavenly6 album, due out next week.
  17. Not only that, but this is, after all, a cartoon we're talking about. Sometimes the sizes are exaggerated for dramatic effect (mind you, I can't specifically think of a time this happened in Macross, but it happened all the time in Hokuto no Ken... ).
  18. Y'know, in Romance of Three Kingdoms (the book, not the game), there are several times where worthy men got positions serving rather unworthy lords. When those unworthy lords overplayed their hands, or got in too deep, the worthy servants had to die, too. And not one of them complained, but rather simply lamented the fact that they had put their skills and loyalty in the service of someone who was undeserving of it. Just sayin'.
  19. tl/dr. Back to bishopcruz's point...yeah, I certainly can't find any ACTUAL references to Ohnogi working on Frontier. Nor can I find any information whatsoever about this radio show that Ohnogi was interviewed on. I still can't believe that Shaloom would make all of this up...but there doesn't seem to be any proof anywhere.
  20. You got the title wrong! The actual title of the film is not "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn" (which makes some sense) or even "Burn Hollywood Burn: An Alan Smithee Film" (which would make the most sense), but "An Alan Smithee Film Burn Hollywood Burn." Not colon, no hyphen, nothing. At least, that's what it said in the LA Times review when it came out...for some reason, I stored that little nugget of knowledge in my long-term memory, Lord knows why...
  21. Someone already beat you to the punch: I thought it was hilarious...but apparently there are a bunch of people with no sense of humor who inexplicably love Macross. Or maybe everyone is so used to HG ripping off everything that isn't nailed down, that they can't appreciate a pretty nasty joke on Robotech...

    Graham's Sig

Google to the rescue! "After eons untold, a wind of change? The second coming?" Sounds kind of messianic, if you catch my drift.
  23. Hmmm. I think Tomo Sakurai's got a good voice, both for singing and voice acting. She just doesn't sound much like Chie Kajiura when she sings. Likewise, I'm sure Aya Endo can sing...she just wouldn't sound like Sheryl if she did. But yeah, that Live Video of the voice actors singing Planet Dance is pretty atrocious. Or as I said five years ago:
  24. The one of Hikaru and Misa is the cover of the recent DYRL DVD Box Set, and the one of Minmay in Misa's clothing is the cover of the 25th Anniversary CD Box Set.
  25. Would that suspect be a currently-deranged MW moderator...?
