New Macross fan with a soundtrack related question
Gubaba replied to Charlie4's topic in Movies and TV Series
Yes, you are going crazy. Because the song is "Runner," same as every other episode. The only difference is that Minmay sings it in Episode 36, rather than Makoto Fujiwara (who sings it in the other 35). And this probably belongs in the newbie thread... Oh, and welcome! -
Weird. This is the first double post I've ever seen where the second post didn't show up until half an hour after the first one...

I worked at Borders bookstore during Pokemon's heyday in the U.S. We were FLOODED with Pokemon stuff, and what we saw wasn't even a large percentage of what was out there. Hmmm...true. I've never seen Gundam Doritos. Gundam generally confines itself to toys, models, school notebooks, magazines, comics, books, beach towels, T-shirts, arcade games, home games, cigarette lighters, pens, pencils, pencil cases, jackets, jeans, statues, chess pieces, bedsheets, pachinko machines, and the like. No canned coffee (or tortilla chips). Yes, very different indeed.

THE HELL YOU SAY, ROBOTECH-LOVER!!! Nah, I know you are. But as I've mused before...it *is* weird that RT is (as far as I know) the only series that causes fans to rummage through other series for raw material. Sure, some people will see something like, say, the 08th MS Team and say, "Man! They should do a Macross series like THAT!" But few would say, "Man! They should buy that show and cleverly redub it so it BECOMES a Macross series!" As I said, I think Robotech III: Not Necessarily the Sentinels is HYSTERICAL, because taking something like Gunbuster and saying that Noriko is Annie, Amano is Minmay, and the Coach is Rick is sublimely ludicrous (my favorite, however, is Noriko's friend, "Vanessa Prime"). But there are a lot of people who wanted (and some who still want) Macross II to become RT. Some were also fantasizing about Frontier. This is the problem HG faces right now...not only do they have to make an original RT sequel, they also have to compete against the Macross sequels, which have higher budgets and better creative staff. Yes, even Macross 7.

Hmm...that seems too easy. I *think* it may be due to a lot of mecha-fans' ambivalence or outright hostility towards Eva, especially towards its characters, which (as you say) get the bulk of the merchandising. But then, the pertinent question for non-fans wouldn't be "Why are they still making all this crap?" but "Why is this half-assed show still popular?" And THAT'S a question that I've rarely seen asked.
-
And yet again, that's the big problem, right? Robotech really has no identity separate from its component parts. Or, rather, it does, but that identity is dependent on the original series. But with the fans trying to add other series into the mix to make new Robotech (or even just fantasizing about it)...well, if its done humorously (like Robotech III: Not Necessarily the Sentinels), I usually like it. But if someone thinks about doing it seriously (like a member here was a few pages ago), then I think it's just kinda...well, imagination-impoverished.
-
And neither of them approach Pokemon levels of crap-producing. And yet everyone seems to act like Eva's the only one committing this sin. Why?
-
So...if there's an unnecessary sequel made, milking is okay, but if there is no unnecessary sequel, it's just greedy. Gotcha.
-
So...if they were making Lalah or Sayla figures instead of the millionth version of the RX-78-2, then Gundam would get attacked for commercialism?
-
Why is it that Eva always gets attacked for commercialism? It seems to me that Bandai has been far more mercenary with Gundam than with Eva. At least, I don't see Eva coming out with a new TV series every other year just because Bandai needs to sell more toys.

Best Science FACT movie of all time??

Or Young Einstein! The role that Yahoo Serious was BORN to play! -
I like the Unit 02's shoulder sheaths. The 05...could grow on me. I have to see it action first, though. And I have to ask...what's a "Provisional Unit"? Eva-00 is the Prototype, -01 is the Test Type, -02 through -04 are Production Models. Is the -05 experimental or somethng...?

"DAMMIT! I watched all 85 episodes AND Shadow Chronicles AND Sentinels AND the Untold Story, and they never explained that 'Bird-Human' movie thing!"

I'd be really curious to see the RT demographics. How many new fans are they puling in? How many teenagers and college students? How many anime fans? How many SF fans? I mean, at MW, we've got a large number of old-timers how got into Macross in early-to-mid '80s, but we've also got a not-inconsiderable amount of younger and newer fans, and Frontier brought in a lot more. Does RT do the same? I really don't know. I will say that HG was really, really smart to get RT out to South America and China. I'm pretty sure that's what's been keeping RT afloat for the past ten or fifteen years...

Well, she's got breasts...she just has a man's voice. So maybe her larynx got shot out during a battle, and the only spare they had to replace it with originally belonged to a guy.
-
Didja ever notice that although male and female Zentradi are s'pposed to be, y'know, seperate, the soldier in Episode 12 who tells Miriya that her Q-Rau is ready is A GUY??? Boy, I hope someone got fired over that one...

Considering that nearly every slasher movie is a remake of every other slasher movie, I think the best "lag time" is a couple of months, if not weeks.

The '80s taught us to love Valkyries...the '90s taught us to love Valkyries with guitar sticks! BOMBAA!!

Where? Where? I can't see it! (Is this like those old "Magic Eye" things? I could never make those work, either...) Hmm...I dunno. I kind of expect RPG books to steal every design available (and get the stats all wrong). But yeah, there is something VERY strange about trotting out twenty-five-year-old, thrown-away designs, and stating that it's "new" mecha. I'm just surprised the didn't do the same for the characters. Some of the original Southern Cross designs looked very different from the final versions in the show, and also looked HEAPS better than the designs that they ended up using for TSC...
-
Did they ever use the Southern Cross Navy Division armor? I used to have a model kit of that guy...
-
Try Google...?

Yep, that's how it is. I had the VHS tape and I have the DVD. There was never a dub made for the movie, and the DVD is just a VHS dump. Pretty lame way to release such a spectacular movie...

Is there a two-seater? The OVA only shows the single 19P.
