Thank you, but I'm not sure it's necessary. I sent them a email (in Japanese) last week. I'm sure they'll get to it eventually. And do we really need their confirmation? We've been given: A) A writer who is not credited anywhere... B) who was interviewed on a radio show that no one has heard and whose existence is not documented anywhere... C) and who has written dozens of stories that no one has read, and which are likewise not documented anywhere... D) and which were published in books that don't exist. No further questions, Your Honor.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Gubaba replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Oh, the whole thing was dubbed. I didn't think Flanders or Chief Wiggum sounded very good, but the Simpsons themselves were very well cast. Funny, though...I don't remember the "D'oh," so it couldn't have been TOO remarkable... -
What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Gubaba replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'd go with that. I've seen the Simpsons in Japanese, German, and Spanish...and while sometimes it's ALMOST as good as the Enlgish version, it never quite gets there. -
No, that would be the Kaifun clones...
-
Don't forget Leon selling dresses! And I always wondered if Marj from Plus was a clone of Max, since they looked kind of similar and had the same voice actor as well...
-
I don't know if it was "make or break" for Ranka, but it certainly made the series for me. More than anything else, the Macross Quarter in ep. 7, "Seikan Hikou" in ep. 12, and the song battle in ep. 15 made me realize that Frontier was flat-out awesome. "so...even dreamweaver13 thinks she looks like an old lady..."

I especially like the small print at each picture that identifies the pics as being from '02 to '06. What happened to '07 and '08?
-
I dunno...there are a lot of empty seats after the first few rows. Besides, how many are hardcore fans and how many are just kinda curious? I went to the Anime Expo RT thing in 2004. Does that make me a rabid, slavering RT lover? 'Course, that was the year they said that had a MAJOR announcement, which a lot of us thought would be about DYRL. Turned out it was that Invasion video game. And DYRL toys were merely a postscript.

And Klan was the first loli pilot... Really, though, I just picked "diva" because I can't think of any better way to translate 歌姫...
-
Hmmm...you might beat me to that one. I'm going to start translating it as soon as I'm done with "Distantly Fading Memories," but since it's almost as much a MacPlus or Mac7 story as it is an SDFM story, I'll probably wait until I'm done with Mac7 to upload it.

Here's the next group. Again, all episodes are listed as being written by Yoshino. Kawamori is credited (along with someone else) for storyboards for episode 14. #12 - Fastest Delivery This episode is really focused around Ranka singing "Seikan Hikou." Anyway, the really charming point here is the "Kira!☆" Animation director Takahashi (Yuichi) watched a lot of choreography videos in order ot animate this scene well, and I think it made a strong impression. And of course, the first audience to hear Ranka's singing is Zentradi. #13 - Memory of Global In this episode, the heartwarming mood of the first half, as Alto enters the Global, expands in a heartbeat in the second half into something much harder. And finally, Alto, having wished to fly in a real sky, of course finds joy in flying his Valkryie in the atmosphere. This episode crosses the halfway point of the series, and moves towards the second half, as Sheryl's sickness and Grace's conspiracy come to the forefront. #14 - Mother's Lullaby An all-out attack by the Vajra, and the war intensifies. This episode is the turning point for the war getting larger, but we also wanted to show that Grace is still lurking in the shadows. Ranka's power is revealed, and Sheryl's standing and position changes. Mylene was special, but Sheryl is the first diva to fly a Valkyrie in this series. Even though she gets shot down almost immediately (laugh).

But Guld had problems due to his Zentradi genes...would they really want an entire generation prone to anger management issues?

I've seen that (actually, I downloaded it, so I have it), and I thought it was hilarious. I'm not talking about an accurate translation of the drama albums, I'm talking about accurate TRANSCRIPTIONS. If I could read the Japanese (instead of having to listen to the same lines dozens of times to figure out what they're saying), I could progress a lot faster. As for why no one's done it before...I dunno. I suspect it's because the Macross drama albums aren't as rewarding, and usually tend to fall into the "only for the die-hard fan" category. Also pure volume is a factor: there are something like nineteen full albums, most of them forty-five minutes or longer (some of the Macross 7 ones run well over an hour). It's a lot of work. But hey, it's something that hasn't been put into English before, so I'm gonna do 'em. EDIT: Oh, and yes. I think boinger is planning to do some kind of picsub for "Miss DJ." At the very least, we could do some kind of slideshow for them.

Yeah. What's weird is that there are only two volumes, according to Japanese Wikipedia, amazon.co.jp, Mandarake, Google, and the list of other books in the "Entertainment Bible Series" on the back flyleaf of the books. If you do a Google Image search for them, you will only find the two volumes, often posted together. For example, look at the picture I posted above, and then look at this (go to the bottom of the page): http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_i...27e8dec34b31bb1 I have both books (bought 'em together. They're often sold that way). The first one has five sections: 1) Robots, 2) aircraft, 3) land-based weapons (tanks, cars, etc.), 4) interior illustrations, and 5) a list of the complete works of Studio Nue, 1972-1989. Volume Two has four sections: 1) space ships, 2) submarines and water-based ships, 3) bases and fortresses, and 4) all the "Starship Library" columns from "SF Magazine." The books cover ALL of Studio Nue's work from 1972~1989, leaving nothing out (the pictures of course, are quite small). What are the other nine volumes of lineart filled with? And why is there not even a RUMOR of their existence among Japanese fans?
-
Wow. I've never seen anything like that. The best I ever got was stuff like Animag and the Baycon program. But of course, there was no Macross in those. I really wish that someone had typed out the scripts for the drama albums, though...those things can be insanely difficult to understand at times.
-
But he's one of the founders of the Macross Generation website...it would be like if Shawn or Graham started pulling stuff out of their rears and passing it off as real. If someone found out, it would create mayhem here...wouldn't it?
-
Not by myself at all...boinger's basically doing the subbing himself, and OptimusX and Xeros are pitching in. jasonc and VFTF1 are working on scanlations. Lynn2009 has done a lot of work on the drama albums. And VF-25 Messiah and Renato have checked over some of my scripts and made lots of corrections. So yes, I'm doing a lot of the translations and I'm organizing and editing everything, but I'm not everything myself (thank goodness!).
-
See? It's interesting! Although at this point, I'm more curious about the motivations. Why would someone make all this up? And why would we have an obvious "covert agent" like エドワード・エルリック ("Edward Elric") up there providing links to even more damning stuff as though it proves something?
-
Sounds fun...maybe we could all go to karaoke afterwards or something.
-
Well, the first batch (of six) for SDFM is currently being uploaded. I'm about 1/5 of the way through both My Fair Minmay (which is great) and the first volume of the SDFM novelization (which isn't). And boinger just sent me some scans of the photo-manga as well. Everything's going along...well, a little more slowly than I'd like, but it's getting done.

Uh-huh. PM'd you.

Are Macross fans as self-hating as Star Wars fans?
Gubaba replied to Sketch's topic in Movies and TV Series
Thanks! I'll pick it up. It's kind of bothersome to have the entire Macross continuum spread across so many different mediums. Comics and books I can deal with, but games? I really wish Macross Chronicle were devoting some time to them... -
Yup, I downloaded that one. There's some color pages, with a summary of Macross. Then there's the "Machanic Chapter" and the "Character Chapter" (all lineart). At the end, there's another summary of Macross. And that's it...unless there are a bunch of pages missing in the download version (which is always possible).
