Thoughts on the SDFM aftermath episodes

It was. There's a short story about it in Macross Perfect Memory, called "The Plundering Fleet." -

If Carl Macek had had his way, yes, Minmay would've slept with everybody. As it is, I don't think she does. Well...Ishiguro DID indicate (on the AnimEigo bonus material) that there was something going on between Misa and Global... I don't think VFTF1 ever asked anyone to marry him moments after she tried to stab him...of course, I could be wrong about that. -

You just made the thirteen-year-old boy who still lives inside me very, very happy. He thinks it's a great idea, and he's thinking about writing a letter to some Japanese animation company to ask them to do it. But yeah, the whole "Minmay's wearing Hikaru's shirt but Hikaru's sleeping on the couch" is rather confusing. I think Hikaru, being a gentleman, wouldn't pressure Minmay into anything she didn't feel ready for. So I don't think it happened that night, but I do think it happened, primarily because Christmas in Japan is considered a holiday for couples, and woe to the person who doesn't have a sex partner on Christmas Eve... Good points, and I stand corrected. As you suggest, I think one of the problems is the character design. As Ginrai and VF5SS pointed out on Destroy All Podcasts, Mikimoto seems to be incapable of drawing an unattractive woman. A shrewish as she may be, Misa is still lovely enough that she should have no problem getting any guy's attention. But I'm guessing she gives off strong "f*ck off" vibes. One of my friends did that for a long time, and although she was 21, there was something kind of forty-ish about her. We can't really SEE it in the show, but I bet it's there. -

You're changing your argument. Here's what you said before: Which is an indefensible position. Anyway, the point is moot since mickeyg explained what he meant. No one was agreeing with your interpretation of his offhand comment; rather people were arguing with you for saying that "everything great has been and gone." And since you're backing away from that original hardline position, then no one is arguing at all anymore. We all agree. Yippee! Let's move on: So, you don't think Minmay slept with Hikaru when they were shacking up at Christmastime...? I dunno. I kind of agree that Hikaru is hard to read, especially in the last episodes. As I said before, dreamweaver gave him a nice way out, but I still think the love story wasn't handled as well as it could have been in the last part of the story. He really DOES act like an idiot, but not in a way I find comprehensible. I kind of feel the same way about Alto, though, especially after the episode 15 song battle. EDIT: Whoops! Left out the all-important "not." -

No, I think it was MUCH more of a tease...he's a Supervision Army ship. We know they made the Macross originally, we know they fought the Zentradi, but we know nothing else about them. Here comes what looks like an opportunity for the show to come full circle, and explain what the deal is with the Supervision Army...and it just floats on by. It comes out of nowhere, it has no impact on the plot, and it's forgotten. But because of that oddness, it's one of my favorite scenes in the latter part of the series. (And hey! Since that episode was written by Hiroshi Ohnogi, why don't we just ask Shaloom why that scene's in there? I bet he's got TONS of info about it! ) -
Hey, the only blood spilled in the riot on Gallia IV was the Zentradi nosebleed, so you're kinda right!

Uh...um...y'know what I really liked? Milia throwing the baby. That was HOT! Although, I always thought the introduction of the Supervision Army ship in that episode was odd. "Oh look! It's a Supervision Army ship! Let's check it out!" "Better not. It might be booby trapped." "Oh, okay." And then it never gets mentioned again. Weird. -

I have to say, I think you're taking the hijacking of your thread awfully well. -
I've heard all the arguments for that one, and I don't buy it. I could be wrong, of course...but I think doing as a sequel would require some MAJOR deftness and ingenuity on the part of the creators in order not to make it suck. But of course, we'll see...

Was someone trying to prove that? -
Swallowtail Butterfly (Shunji Iwai, 1997) is one of my all-time favorite movies, and I think it's a crime that it was never released in the U.S. It's hip, it's fun, it's sexy, it's sad, it's violent, and it's got awesome, awesome music. Anyway, here's the Yen Town Band performing the song that influenced them the most...

Maybe, maybe not. I really can't say. Me, I'm using the extra time to jump ahead in the Kawamori Commentary, translating eps. 18~24, and going through the Famitsu Interview. I also found a few extra nuggets of info on Macross Generation, including some lines from the Interview mistranslated by Shaloom. My favorite is this: キラッを聞かせせるためだけに12話を作った ("We made Episode 12 solely so that the "Kira!" could be heard"). Which Shaloom says means: "Sólo hice el episodio 12 buscando enojar a la gente, de ahi el "brilla" (kira)" (We made Episode 12 solely to make people angry, and then the "Kira!") This, by the appears as part of the "Commentary on Episode 12" in Shalom's "translation," but doesn't appear as anything of the sort in the actual interview.

You're welcome. And no, it didn't come with a poster, but, as you say, that doesn't mean it didn't ORIGINALLY come with one.

Even though he hasn't been on the site in past few days, I can't believe he doesn't know. Maybe he's just busy marshaling all his evidence...

It looks like the layout and design for Famitsu Weekly.
-
Well, at the bottom of the indicia, it's got a copyright of 1983, but as for the rest of it, it's merely "Monthly OUT, '84 August, Showa 59 August 10, Volume 8, Number 12." No mention of the first pressing.

BRAVO! I agree wholeheartedly. There is always good (and even great) stuff being made all the time, in every fields of the arts. You just have to find it. (But you know what's really been on the wane? Epic Poetry. By my estimate, the last great epic poet was Milton, and he died centuries ago. Where are the great epic poets these days? ) Anyway, back on topic...I kind of agree with Taksraven, and I kind of don't. The last nine episodes of SDFM do seem to run a little long, but I think that's because they're more episodic than the first parts (yes, parts. I view SDFM as kind of a loose trilogy, with Part I being episodes 1~13, Part II covering 14~27, and Part III being 28~36. Do other people see it like this, or am I the only one?). Which is fine. The primary conflict is over, and the last episodes are almost like a series of linked short stories showing us the world after the apocalypse. I do think it was a weird way to end the series, but I think it worked...primarily BECAUSE it's a weird way to end the series. Hikaru, Misa, and Minmay (and yes, Kaifun and Kamujin as well) are interesting, and the world the stories present is interesting. It lacks the space opera grandeur of the first parts, but the quiet, subdued introspection serves the story well. And all that aside...Romanesque: BEST. CHRISTMAS. EPISODE. EVER. -
I bought it this year on Ebay (from someone in Hawaii), but it MUST have been from the U.S., since it has a Books Nippan business reply card in it.

I've got an Out 8月 PM, and the date is Showa 59, August 10.

Ah, teenagers throughout the history of the world have believed that. They'll get over it. -
Or, as Graham suggested some time ago...perhaps they've developed a pinpoint barrier condom...
-
I think they're waiting for Shaloom to respond. I hope he does so soon, though. I'd like this to be over and done with, and I'm sure everyone else does, too.

He shouldn't be...he's talking about episodes 28~36. And BRAVO, Dreamweaver! I always thought the love triangle was rather messily re-opened after episode 27, but your analysis is quite plausible...and I like it. I'll post more when I'm more coherent... -
I know this is kind of off-topic, but I thought it was hysterical... Stephen Colbert flies with the Thunderbirds: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-r...ce-thunderbirds
