I saw the movie trailer today, and was shocked that it was almost entirely new animation. But yeah...as far as changes to the plot go, they give away almost nothing.

Yeah, it was deifnitely good. Some of it was very, very weird, but...it's Eva. We expect that, right? And yes. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY the third movie can follow the TV series plot. Things get shockingly different by the end of this one. And Mari's kinda hot. EDIT: And yes, I also saw the Macross Frontier trailer. Lookin' more forward to that one now, too.

I can tell you tomorrow. I have noticed, though, that the title of 3.0 seems to have changed. The Japanese subtitles for the movies are (as everyone probably knows) Jo (序), Ha (破), and Kyuu (急). (I can't think of any good way to translate them into English. They usually get represented as "Prelude," "Division," and "Quickening," but those meanings don't fit here. Noh plays are divided into three "acts," and the acts are not numbered, but titled "Jo," "Ha," and "Kyuu." So it really should be something like Beginning, Middle and End, or Introduction, Development, and Climax.) Anyway, 3.0 no longer appears to be called 急, but rather "Q." No idea why, unless it's just for cleverness's sake.

Yeah, once you put it like that... As for other stuff in the issue, the Mari Iijima interview seems interesting; "Macross F: Secret Visions" remains pretty fanservice-y, but I still have hopes for it; and I still can't tell if "Macross 7th Chord" is any good or not.

Just picked up a couple of copies today, and MAN! As Renato said, Macross the First is quite good...and rather different from the show. Mikimoto does seem to be picking up the pace a bit, since it ends with the space fold... And it bugs me that the next issue won't be out until November...what the hell kind of schedule is that?

I think you're confusing Big West and Studio Nue. Big West made Macross II, but Studio Nue declined to work on the show. Matt Greenfield kind looks like he could Santa's little Hollywood brother, doesn't he? But let's break this apart, shall we? Yes, Carl Macek has worked for ADV, but ADV started nearly twenty years ago, when Macek was still running Streamline. ADV is not Macek's company, and it never was.

Funny review. Almost makes me wish I'd read the comic so that I knew what they were talking about, but it doesn't seem like it's worth it. Inicdentally, when "Shadow Chronicles" came out, I remember Captain JLS really pushing for a trade paperback of "Prelude," because it was going for astronomical amounts on Ebay. I saw it there a couple of months ago, and the whole set could be had for less than ten bucks. Seems like DC knew what they were doing in not issuing a collection...

Yeah, my friend who got the tickets had serious trouble getting Monday and Tuesday off as well, so she won't be joining us on Tuesday night, I'm afraid. And really? You're wondering if the concert will be awesome? Oh ye of little faith...

Is this a good time to bring this classic up again...?

Luckily, they were playing for four nights (two one week, two the next). The first night, I stood outside the venue with a big sign saying "PLEASE SELL ME A TICKET!" in Japanese. I didn't get in that night, but I met a very nice high school girl who sold me her ticket for one of the following nights. I had to go out to Hachioji to pick it up though, which was a real pain. And then I was stuck with a ticket that was very clearly NOT FOR RESALE, but also very clearly had the name "HARA SAUKRAKO" printed on it. Luckily, the people working the concert didn't care. Still, I had fun telling everyone that I traveled an hour out of Tokyo to carry out an illicit transaction of a financial nature with a sixteen-year-old girl. Anyway, yeah. I should be packing now....I'll be arriving in Tokyo Saturday afternoon, and I'll probably get in touch with josue after I get to the hotel.

I saw Tokyo Jihen at Zepp Tokyo about a year and a half ago, and it was a similar situation. Clearly, someone managed to get something through, since one of the songs from that night showed up on YouTube, but I have no idea how they did it.

Actually, if it's 10%, that'll be more than I'm expecting. Since it seems like it's more of a commemorative concert, so I'm expecting a wide range of stuff. Even if they do only "Diamond Crevasse," "Seikan Hikou," and " "Lion," I'll go home happy. I think what I really want to hear is Cowboy Bebop music. And yes, "May'n Act" is great. Megumi's coming out with a DVD soon also.

I'll be picking up a copy of Macross Ace for you...will that help mend fences?

The only reason that I ever started checking was because once I found out about those Ohnogi "novels," I WANTED THEM! Since of the primary reasons for the existence of my Macross Transaltion Project is to make the verbal homages in Macross Frontier clearer to English-speaking fans, novels that are referenced in Frontier were something that I was EXTREMELY interested in. Once I started digging, I ran into bishopcruz, who had been trying to find verification for Ohnogi's involvement with Frontier. We started working together (me on the novels, he on the radio interviews; and he started the Famitsu investigation, discovering which issue the interview was in, and searching for the issue high and low). So it took two knowledgeable fans several months to find ANYTHING that could prove or disprove Shaloom's words. And that's not even including peppering magnuskn, Sketchley, Renato, Azrael, and Bariaburu Faita with questions. So don't feel bad about not investigating it. It was my tenacity to get the novels that started it, and it was nly my outrage at seeing others take Shaloom's information as fact that made me write and post my essay. Heh. Why didn't you let Ohnogi write episode 25? He did such a great job on episodes 18~24!!!" And some poor Satelight employee says, "Um, boss? We got another one of those weird bits of hate mail about your friend Hiroshi." And Kawamori says, "Another one? Jeez, and they think I'm on drugs...?"

And I don't know about anyone else, but this whole fiasco has made me rethink the way I do my translations. If it's a normal, widely available source (like Macross Chronicle, or Macross Ace, or CD liner notes, or the novels) then it's business as usual, but if it's something rarer (like a magazine interview, especially an old one), then I will post scans of it along with the translation.
