I dunno...I never thought Shadow Force Chronicles would see the light of day either, but it did. Still, they've said they're waiting for the Live Action Movie to release Shadow Rising, right? And, as HG themselves point out, live action movies can take an AWFULLY long time. Even if it gets put on the fast track tomorrow, the LAM will probably take at least two more years to complete. That, combined with the two or three years since Shadow Chronicles came out, seems like an awfully long time to wait for another ninety-minute movie.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Gubaba replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I watched that one a couple of months ago. Ye gads, was it ever awful. My favorite Japanese zombie flick (not BEST, mind you, just my favorite) remains Stacy. -
What colour tyres would you like to see on your Valk?
Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
To who? -
Well, if that doesn't work for you, you can always go the Macross Chronicle route: The TV series is real. Do You Remember Love is a movie. Exsedol looks the way he does in Macross 7 because he reconfigured his body sometime in the 2020s.

WTF!! A new Battlestar Galactica film is in the works??!&
Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh, I'm far more picky than that...I'll even attack Deathsport, Star Crash, Yor: The Hunter of the Future, and Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn! Fair enough. And yes, the special effects are, for the most part, quite good. I really think the writing is the main culprit as to why the show is failing to grab me. But then, I guess genuine SF writers who were working for television were probably something of a scarcity in 1978. -

Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmm. I guess that'll have to do, although I was hoping for something a little more intrinsic to the show itself. For me, it's been more of a "Ye gads, I actually liked this??? What a stupid little kid I must've been!" -

True (and I for one can't watch Robotech any more). But that's beside the point. I guess I was hoping that someone who liked the original series would explain why they liked it...and give it a little more reasoning beyond, "When I was five, this show was the best!" -
Much as I've been having fun with this thread, I'm beginning to agree. On the other hand, I think it's good that all the RT stuff is CONTAINED, rather than spilling out all over the forum the way it did years ago. I dunno. Talking about Robotech should be allowed here, but if it's just going to devolve into gossip like "So-and-so said this over at one site, so this guy flamed him at that site" or outright falsehoods like "HG stole the name Robotech when Revell went out of business" then yeah...what's the point?

Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Nope (fortunately). Is that all it boils down to? Nostalgia? At amazon.com, the original series has something like 160 five-star reviews. But it's really hard for me to imagine anyone watching this for pure pleasure, unless they were kids when it first came out (and hell, that's my situation, and even I'm not enjoying it much...). -
Kawamori addresses it all here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30317 It may reduce your confusion or it may increase it, depending. My advice is not to worry about continuity too much. You'll be happier in the long run.

And how about now...? I just watched the "wild west" episode last night. Lame. -

Except for the fact that she crashed the VT-1... -

You're kidding, right? That poor girl had NO IDEA what was about to happen that night. And she's strong. And violent. No one but Max could've pulled THAT honeymoon off... -

I dunno...you actually make a good case for Misa. In a combat situation, having three hands could be...useful. -
I want to see a remake of "Birth of a Nation."

Technology that you have bought that went nowhere...
Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hmmm...I kept using my first generation iPod until late last year, and I've even had people ask me what THAT was... -
Was this recent? Most of the RT fan sites I've seen that are no longer active look abandoned by the webmasters rather than shut down by HG.

How far would you go for some Macross lovin'?
Gubaba replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I did the same thing (except from the U.S., not from Australia), but I can't really count it as a pure Macross expense, since the trip was also a whirlwind of shopping and visiting with friends (some old, some new) as well. But man...that concert was something, wasn't it? -

Okay...yeah, I feel stupid now. And Dennis Lone should be on the list as well, right? -
Well said. As Seto said, a number of the RT fans have a big persecution complex. And since "persecution" apparently consists of anything less than adoration of all aspects of Robotech and Harmony Gold, if we just leave it all alone...where will they be? To that end, I'm planning on waiting until there's ACTUAL Robotech news before I state any more OPINIONS ABOUT ROBOTECH OR ITS FANS on this thread. I'll probably still ofer ideas (and, y'kow, try to convince Seto to leave RT.com), but that's it.

Yeah, they were great. Not just anime and movies, but just normal TV shows from Japan as well. I was a BIG fan of J-Pop duo Puffy (still am, actually) and I managed to get nearly the entire four-run of their TV variety show, "Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa-Puffy" from two of the video stores. One of them is still there, the other one has turned into a ramen restaurant.

Okay, you win. -
I have a long-held theory that ANY science-fiction that shows up on American television will ALWAYS have a hardcore fanbase, even if that fanbase only comprises a hundred or so people. As such, I don't think Robotech will ever really be dead. But, as you say, it occupies a weird liminal space...not quite an American sci-fi show, not quite an anime, harder-edged and closer to the original than, say, "Battle of the Planets," but less so than pretty much everything that came after it. I would, however, dispute your assertion that the reasonable (and productive) fans were "driven away." Most of them simply left, of their own accord, thanks to no forward movement on the part of the franchise, or dissatisfaction with Shadow Chronicles. Now, there are definitely those rabid fans who are TRYING to drive people away, either through insults or just plain acting crazy. If the verious websites that support Robotech don't want to rein those people in, that's their business. More and more reasonable fans will either forsake the franchise or else turn it into a private hobby. Life will go on. Arguing with the rabid fans is pointless. If they come here (as they have before), they'll be dealt with; either they'll calm down, or they'll leave, or they'll be banned. If RT.com doesn't want to do the same, then it will become an irrelevant ghost town of a forum. if you think RT.com is worth saving, go for it. But since the rabid fans are the ones in charge, I don't think you'll end up being very successful. You have your own Macross II site, don't you? Why not devote a large amount of space on it to Robotech as well? I think you'll find that a lot of the reasonable fans, even the ones who have been silent for a long time, will join up. And since those fans are generally more productive, your site will have more to offer than the official site. And THAT will be a real boon to Robotech fandom.

Who would you rather have as a passenger?
Gubaba replied to Ghost Train's topic in Movies and TV Series
Was Ishtar ever a passenger? By all rights, Wendy Rider should be on the list, but I doubt anyone would choose here...all you would hear for the duration of your flight would be a lot of "Huh?" "What's going on?" and "EEEK!" And that would get old REAL quick.
