I thought the '88 version was a rather innovative take on the story...until I saw George Romero's "The Crazies" and realized that they nabbed the whole Government Virus/Cover-Up plotline from there. But a Rob Zombie version...? It could be good, it could be bad, but above all else I'm sure it will be incredibly gross.

The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.

What gives you that impression? I've never read anything that indicates he's bitter. Now, Tomino, HE seemed to be bitter about Gundam's success, but Kawamori seems to be quite happy doing the occasional Macross sequel, and it's not like he's ONLY doing Macross.

That sounds like Pizza the Hutt's dream come true! Hell, he could even have a role in the film...

Yeah...it kind of reminds me of the scene in the Muppet Movie where they pick up Gonzo, who's on his way to...Kalamazoo or Albuquerque or someplace like that. The other muppets ask him why he's going there, and he says "To be a movie star!" One of them asks, "Souldn't you go to Hollywood for that?" And Gonzo replies, "Oh, sure...if you want to do it the EASY way!"

I'm wondering about that myself...I'm sure we could all learn a thing or two from him.

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Gubaba replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
That sounds worth watching... Y'know, that reminds me...there was one that I saw years and years ago called "Nine-One" (yes, it was a female ninja movie). Pretty stupid movie, but the girls were cute. And one of them used the strong muscles in her hoo-hah to crush a rapist's wee-wee. Pretty great scene... Unfortunately, I checked amazon.co.jp, and it doesn't look like the movie is available on DVD. -
For the record, Tommy totally did say what I wrote. I quoted from memory though and offered to let Kevin give me the exact quote but instead he freaked out and banned me. Apparently saying something is "Untrue fanboy speculation" is also worlds different from saying "ignorant fanboy." That's it for me bringing Robotech.com drama to Macrossworld though (for obvious reasons ). OOOH! Can I put words in Kevin's mouth, too? ON FEBRUARY 31, 2009, KEVIN McKEEVER SAID: Y'know...I really think Macross Frontier is tons better than Shadow Chronicles. Oh, and Shadow Rising? Never coming out. Anyway, sorry to hear you got banned. Does this mean Seto's next...?

Who would you rather have as a passenger?
Gubaba replied to Ghost Train's topic in Movies and TV Series
Does the AnimEigo version use "drifts"? "Love Drifts Away" was the translation given to me by one of the teachers at my high school (she was Japanese, but oddly enough, she was the Spanish teacher...fluent in Japanese (of course), English, Spanish, French, and Italian), but I could've sworn that the "official" English version said "goes." (Really, "nagareru" could either be viewed as "drifts" or "flows"...it's the word used for describing how a river moves.) And yes, Envision Web Hosting is offering PUH-LENTY of fine deals right now, aren't they? Let's all thank them by sending them emails telling them how they can meet hot sluts for free! -
I also think the movie will never get made...but I think I understand the fans' desire to "imagine" what it would be like. As you say, it seems like A LOT of RT fans seem to want to cut out the music aspect of the story, as well as start the movie with Zor fighting the Invid. I *think* there's a certain amount of wish fulfillment here. The RT fans realize that RT is flawed and inconsistent, or else there are certain aspects of the story that they just plain dislike, so they're all creating their own RT movie in their heads, one that addresses all the perceived errors in the original. Don't like Minmay? Take her out, or change her into a feisty, non-singing pilot. Wish the "generations" were better connected? Put the Robotech Masters and the Invid into the Macross story. Don't like the love story? Remove it entirely, or have Rick hook up with Lisa at the end of the movie, with no mopey "emo" stuff running through the story. Is there some little thing you'd always wished had been shown, or some thing that was in the story that you wish hadn't been? Here's the perfect chance to say what you don't like about RT, but phrase it in the form of a "movie synopsis." Of course, creating that perfect movie in your head nearly guarantees that if the ACTUAL movie appears, it will fall way short of expectations...

Ah, Mr. Patricc of envisionwebhosting...you have a good point there, and indeed, as you so eloquently put it, Sheryl sees pretty slim than Ranka. Hey, at least it's not the DVD spambot again, telling us about One Tree Hill and so forth... -

Isn't he a little too old? Do you really not get it, or are you just posting flamebait...?

15 years ago the first OVA of Macross Plus was released.

Heh. I've gotten some pretty "interesting" reactions from my Japanese friends when I explain Robotech to them... -
I mentioned several times in my post that I wasn't attacking anyone, nor singling people out, nor being confrontational. So, no, I don't believe you're being disingenuous, nor (as I believe I stressed in my post) do I think you being here is any kind of "abomination." Anyway, thanks for answering my question. Hmmm...the only thing I've ever seen him say about Macross II is that he can tolerate Hibiki better than he can Basara. I guess that's sorta positive...in a way...

WTF!! A new Battlestar Galactica film is in the works??!&

Or the Brady Bunch movies... -
Shut up, Marj. That's not exactly what I'm talking about... (Before I go on, let me state clearly that what I'm about to say is NOT CRITICISM. I don't think there's anything wrong with coming here to post solely about Robotech, and I don't think there's anything wrong with not being a Macross fan. I'm not singling anyone out, or attacking anyone, I'm just providing examples.) Yes, there are people like fifbeat who seemed to be MUCH more into RT, but then got into Macross. That took a few years, so I suppose it can happen to any of the RT fans here. But I'm talking more about people like MEMO, and (more recently) people like Wanzerfan, HappyPenguins, and Whamhammer. HappyPenguins and Whamhammer both came out and said that they're not fans of Macross (yet...heh heh). And I've never heard Wanzerfan say ANYTHING positive about ANY Macross story. There are many others, too...and all of them post in this thread 90% of the time. Now, I know HappyPenguins joined up to speak out on the legal debate; others joined because they were either banned from RT.com or got frustrated with it. But again, my question is...Why here? I'm not being confrontational, I'm genuinely curious.

Robotech fans (with a small or sometimes nonexistent interest in Macross) signing up here seems to have become an increasing trend over the last six months or so...I wonder why? (I'm not saying there's anything BAD about that; there isn't. People can post wherever they like...but I find it strange. Why now? And why here?)
-
Besides, it seems like it's pretty much par for the course for anime titles to have different timelines/continuities. Macross hangs together better than most, including the big dogs like Yamato and Gundam.

Your first link (the three DVD set) is only the first twelve episodes of the series. But you can find a complete Animeigo set without too much difficulty. The consensus here seems to be that the Animeigo set (your first link) is generally the better-quality release, but I believe the ADV set (your second link) is cheaper. The ADV set also has an English dub track in addition to the Japanese, but I think the majority agree that the show is better in Japanese.

15 years ago the first OVA of Macross Plus was released.
Gubaba replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
I had read about it in Animerica, but I'd already been burned by Macross II, so I wasn't very excited about it (although this Macross 7 thing sounded intriguing, since it had Max and Milia in it...). But there was a comic shop/anime video rental store that I frequented (still do, actually, although its location has changed), and, the week Macross Plus Vol. 1 came out, the owner of the store was raving about it. I said that I wasn't terribly excited about it, and anyway, I didn't like dubs (the subtitled version came out later). He said, "Look. Rent it today. If you don't like it by the first SCENE, I'll give you your money back." He kept my money. I didn't end up buying the VHS tapes until the subtitled versions came (which gave me my first rude awakening of how much more subtitled videos cost than dubbed ones), and then, variously patiently and impatiently, waited for each successive volume. The ending of Volume Three, though, totally did me in. That was SUCH a massive cliffhanger, and I so desperately wanted the episode to keep going and not end, that I think I ended up shouting expletives at the TV all through the ending credits. -
Just goes to show what a PROVEN lying Macross purist you are! As you imply, that chance is remote. There's something to be said for trying to force HG's hand and get SOMEONE official to say SOMETHING more specific than "we were not a party to the litigation" and "We own all rights to Robotech," but if they don't want to talk, they won't.

Hey, if there's legitimate news on the LAM or Shadow Rising front, I think we SHOULD talk about it. But this conversation they're having over there is just an exercise in frustration for everybody involved (and for many who are not involved). Right now, it just feels like everybody's arguing over a movie that might not even get made. Not much to do but sit back and wait. Maybe next year at ComiCon, they'll have a trailer, and THEN we'll see if it has any Macross elements in it or not. Until then, it's just going to go around in circles.

Why should I care what happens over there again...?
