Does he end up married to Minmay in the time bubble, too?

How much of DYRL is supposed to be "fictional"? Are there no Bodolzaa-like fortresses? No Protoculture cities under the sea? We have no idea. I would imagine that a Protoculture city MUST have been found (if we're taking DYRL as "just a movie" and Macross 7 as canon) since the Altira city from DYRL looked awfully similar to the temple on Planet Lux. Either that, or some very old Zentradi could've been keeping it in his pocket all this time...

Well...yeah, but that's just sidestepping Cyclone Trooper's original point. Canon in Macross is overrated anyway, and not terribly helpful. It's good for making timelines, but that's about it. Anyway, how do you know that somewhere between 2012 and 2030, someone DIDN'T find a little sound card for an old Protoculture song...and then they decided to write it in to the "Space War I" movie they were making...

Like perhaps something involving Magical Girls who turn into animals...? http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encycloped...me.php?id=11028

When I was a kid, my babysitter told me about it. Finally, one day when I was home sick from school, I got to see it. They used to show two episodes back-to-back at noon and twelve-thirty, and I think the first episodes I saw were bar none THE best intoduction to the show ever: first was the one with Burgess Meredith as the guy who loves to read but never has enough time to do so, and the second was the horribly disfigured girl getting plastic surgery. I caught on to what the show was about pretty damn quick. And I liked it.

Dude, we KNOW there will be new songs. Didn't you see the trailers? -
A few hours ago, while sitting at the Starbucks a couple of blocks from my house, I finished the translation of My Fair Minmay. *sigh* Good feeling, that. Now it's time to finish typing it up and make any last-minute corrections...

And you call yourself a Robotech fan? You should be ashamed! And as punishment, you should never be allowed to watch Shadow Chronicles again.

Well, if the caps lock was off, it probably wouldn't be him... But still, how do you know it wasn't?

Oh yeah...I love Wagner, too. For a long time, I thought I was an opera fan...then I realized I really just liked Wagner and some Verdi and Mozart.

I feel exactly the same way. I'm sorry it's more than halfway finsihed, but I'll be glad when it's over.

Well...this is one of those weird things that doesn't really match up. In the TV episode, Minmay calls one of her friends in that scene "Riko." However, in the book, that exact same scene happens (same dialogue, everything) but she's with Seiko and Akina. When I worked on the subs for the episode, I toyed with the idea of changing "Riko" to "Seiko" to make it fit better with the book, but then decided against it. So the answer to your question is "yes and no."

Agreed. My guilty pleasures aren't QUITE that guilty...I did like Tiffany when I was a kid, though. Point.

If that's a "guilty" pleasure, I think you've got your priorities out of whack. Mahler, Bach, Beethoven, and Debussy are people whose music I'm proud to say I love...shitty J-Pop singers, not so much.

Okay...then the title is now officially "ROBOTECH: Mecha Most Moist."

Oh, I have it on good word that there's a new Robotech movie right around the corner... Here's the poster art:

Wow...you're hardcore!

Thank you! And yeah, I'll probably throw in a few Translator's notes...but I'm 100% positive that there are MANY in-jokes that I'm missing, so don't expect TOO much.

Is there an echo in here or something...?
-
Apparently they didn't. I went back and checked the fraudulent "liner notes" and found this: - The Dimension Eater is a reference to the ancient weapon of the Protoculture: Chou Jikuu Bakudan ( Super Dimensional bomb ). Narrated about in different books and the first cronology. Even this Dimension Eater is much less powerful than the one built by the Protoculture, which devoured entire solar systems, not only part of a planet. So yeah...no real source (unless by "first chronology," he means the one in Macross Perfect Memory, which has no mention of a "Super Dimesnion Bomb" - I jusy went back and checked). It's false. Unless the novels say something about it, the Protoculture didn't have Dimension Eaters.

What are you talking about? There's only one Predator film. They never made any sequels, and they certainly never made anything as foolish as some kind of crossover with another popular sci-fi horror series. I mean duology, not series. Since they only made two Aliens films, after all. Sheesh, Taksraven...next thing you'll be telling me is that there's a Terminator 3 or something idiotic like that!
-
I'm not entirely certain, but if I remember correctly, that bit of information came not from the show, but from the Shaloom's discredited "Liner Notes" to Frontier...

Guess I spoke too soon about cultural notes...just today, as Minmay is in a meeting about what kind of movie she'll be in, the producer starts talking abut how he wants it to be a story of "Innocent Love," like "The Dancing Girl of Izu" or "The Wild Daisy." "Dancing Girl" I know, since I had to suffer through the atrocious Morning Musume version in my Advanced Japanese class, but I just spent the last half-hour tracking down information about "The Wild Daisy." I think I *will* have to add some kind of note, at least to indicate that both of the stories were made and remade often as movies, and generally starred some up-and-coming young idol as the lead (Momoe Yamaguchi in the most famous version of "Dancing Girl," and Seiko Matsuda in the 1981 version of "Wild Daisy," apparently). But if I have to add a footnote there, perhaps I should add a footnote about how Minmay's best friends, Seiko and Akina, are named after two of the biggest Japanese pop stars of the early '80s...or that when Minmay orders a "blueberry jam" crepe, it's almost certainly a reference to the Mari Iijima song of the same name... I dunno. Whaddya think, guys?

Y'know, in his memoirs, Bob Dylan is talking about the song "What Was It You Wanted?" (from the album Oh Mercy), and I can't remember the quote exactly, but he said something like the song was about people who are kind of soft and weak and passive and yet can really get in your way and cause a lot of hassles. I nominate it to be HG's theme song.
