Hikaru always finds time for his fans, even when the human race is threatened with annihilation! And yes, Macross is ALL ABOUT Yot-chan. He's the glue that holds the whole thing together.

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
Gubaba replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well...I haven't seen Transformers 2, but Part 1 had that soldier who would start lapsing into Spanish and continue talking while all the white soldiers were sayig, "Nobody understands you, man!" Wasn't that stereotypical enough for you? -
I just came across this: http://kuchanlove.blog68.fc2.com/blog-entry-268.html Apparently, this guy found a very rare old Macross children's book. I've never seen anything like it. It's, um, pretty weird to say the least. The cover: Some pictures: * See kids? Look both ways before you cross the street or else you'll get crushed by a Super Dimension Fortress. * I'm thinking about this one for my next avatar. * "This is Hikaru Ichijo saying, JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS!" "Oh Hikaru...you're my hero!" * It's like Yot-chan KNOWS he's going to take over Nyan-Nyan when he grows up, turn it into a galaxy-wide franchise, and make millions.

Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
Gubaba replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Maybe. There's a lot that is unclear about this right now. Yep, you got it. -
Y'know, I remember reading an interview with Robert Hilburn, who for a long time was THE primier rock critic for the L.A. Times, whose first famous piece was his obituary for Jimi Hendrix, and later went on to champion many bands of the '70s, '80s, '90s, and yes, the '00s. In the interview someone asked him how he managed to stay current with music and enjoy it, and his response was something like, "Never, ever think that you have 'heard it all,' because you haven't." I believe he's right, and moreover, I believe it's kind of an anti-aging secret. If you really go into art (be it music, movies, anime, whatever) with fresh, open eyes, even if you GET old, you'll never SOUND old. All that said, people like what they like. DYRL blew me away when I was a kid, but Evangelion similarly blew me away when I was in my mid-twenties. Some other anime will surely blow me away like that again...but I doubt it will be a sequel to anything that I currently like. The element of surprise should not be underestimated here. You go into Frontier (or whatever) thinking, "Ah, now THIS is Macross!" Or not. Everyone already has notions about what Macross is. It's far more likely to get blown away by something that makes you think, "I've never seen ANYTHING like this before!" And sequels, by their very nature, won't do that.

No. Just no. Kawamori was on record saying he didn't want to do a Macross sequel after Flashback 2012, and it wasn't until Macross Plus a year or so later that he changed his mind. Not just Kawamori, but all of Studio Nue were not involved in Macross II. And no one said Kawamori hated Macross II, but he did say (quite a ways back) that he never watched it. All of this is verifiable through articles from the time that were in Animag and Animerica, and I thought it was all common knowledge.

Well, duh. If the RT writers hadn't put it in the script, no one would've had to rationalize it later.

Canonizing A Not-So-Canon Universe
Gubaba replied to Cyclone Trooper's topic in Movies and TV Series
This is, of course, a matter of opinion, so take mine for what it's worth...but I do take that line literally, and I believe it's meant to be taken literally. There was absolutely nothing special about that song. Any sufficiently emotional song would've resonated with the Zentradi in a similar way. The fact that it was an old Protoculture song was added insurance, as it were, but I always thought that Minmay could've been up there singing "Yummy Yummy Yummy (I've Got Love in My Tummy)" and the outcome would've been more or less the same. The fact that the song was about love was the important thing, not the song's age or place of origin. -

I wish I could vote for more than one song..."Tenshi no Engoku" is my overall favorite, followed by "DYRL." But I really like the guitar on "Sunset Beach," and it makes me feel all nostalgic an' shit. While working on "My Fair Minmay," I found myself listening to Minmay over and over AND OVER again to keep myself in the right frame of mind (not sure what I'm going to listen to for the Misa book... Sure, Misa's got a few songs, but not many)...although, after a while, I started getting sick of them and switched to Mari Iijima's early albums instead. Some of the rarer Minmay tracks, like "Hoshi no Sasayaki" still occasionally have the power to grab me. My all-time favorite among the non-TV or movie tracks is DEFINITELY the Minmay/Hikaru duet of "Blowin' in the Wind" on Miss DJ. Very touching, and the affectionate banter between Minmay and Hikaru before and after the song makes the whole thing feel very warm and friendly.

But up there with Clint Eastwood...? El Mariachi was, I believe, Rodriguez's finest hour, but Million Dollar Baby and Letters from Iwo Jima blow it out of the water. Hell, I'd even take Any Which Way but Loose over Shark Boy and Lava Girl (or whatever it was called)... -

VF-25...? Or VF-19? -
At the bottom of the box containing all the information (time, file size, bitrate, all of that), there are two tabs. The right-hand one says "パソコンへ転送." That's the one you want to click.

HELP…! Look for some recommendations…
Gubaba replied to Renegade Zentradi's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
See...this is what I was trying to avoid. Renegade Zentradi said that getting into Gundam seemed too daunting, so I tried to simplify everything and provide an easy point of entry, and then others come along and try to clutter everything up again. Give the guy a break, whydoncha? -
