Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
Gubaba replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I missed the cute lesbian this weekend, so no Season 2 for me. Guess I'll continue with the original series...next up, "Fire in Space." The title does not inspire me to expect something worthwhile. -
What sequels? There are no sequels. You must've just dreamed them. Stop talking crazy talk, you crazy talker! (Yes, I deal with the Tremors "franchise" the same way I deal with anything past the first two Alien or Terminator movies... )
-
Ditto.

I don't see her in either chapter.

Huh. I haven't sat down and really read the manga, but Eriera pretty much only shows up in the gag sections in the back...and scanning through those, I don't see either "Britai" or "Kridanik" mentioned anywhere. So I don't know where he's getting that from. I'm not saying it's not there, mind you. I'm just saying I don't know where it is in the comic.
-
Why would someone do that? Don't both AnimEigo and ADV use the same remastered footage?
-
Could you (or he) be more specific? Eriera barely appears in the comic at all, so I'm not sure where that would get thrown in.
-
Yes, or Eriera, or any number of different Romanizations. Huh? Why would there be?

Has Humanity truly surpassed Protoculture?

Watch episode 25 of Macross Frontier. They talk about it there. -
Well that's what's great about it...the jokes are SO corny, but they keep coming so thick and fast that it doesn't really matter if a few miss their mark. I pretty much agree (and T2 was WAAAAY more sentimental than the first one; plus, Arnie was a big star by that time, and probably wouldn't play a villain anymore). But you forgot to mention his first film, the immortal Piranha 2, which was more dreadful and tiresome than almost anything he's done more recently. So yeah. Aliens and Terminator. That's pretty much it.

You haven't finished reading the book, have you?

Good point. Or, as Kawamori put it in his SDFM episode commentary, Minmay is important because she creates culture, and Hikaru and Misa are important because they protect culture. But this gets into something of a sticky area, because a lot depends on whether or not one thinks My Fair Minmay should be put in the mix as well...since there, it's made explicit that the military is funding Minmay and pretty much pushing her onto the citizens in order to placate them. So she's a tool as well. Of course, no one expected the reaction the Zentradi would have towards her, but as far as the people aboard the Macross go, it seems that the military's plan for her worked out quite well. Of course, if you go only by the TV show, you might come to a different conclusion...so who knows?

Hmm...I'll address this more as we get to episodes where it does cut off quickly. Look at this this way...we have many, many stories of people ending wars using unconventional means...like single combat between two champions, or a chess game, or something of that sort. And yet...most wars don't end that way, and most people would be considered crazy for suggesting such an option. Besides...the population in Macross knows that that's the way to deal with uncultured Zentradi...but it probably wouldn't work with other types of aliens. But again, more about that later...

Well...they pretty well established that all her concert outfits are holographic anyway, so she's not really showing off anything at all... -
The internet makes ANYTHING possible!

I didn't realize that it didn't say "To be continued" on the earlier versions, but I did find it strange that the sound didn't cut out when it came up. One of the things I always liked about Mac7 are the way the episodes end quite suddenly. I always thought that was a cool little touch.

A lot of times, the ADV subs are actually more literal than the AnimEigo subs. One of the things that bugged me about the AnimEigo subs as well, was the late-90's slang sometimes thrown in ("Leader, you're the MAN!")...which is why I wanted to go over the subs for the Galaxy Network version. I found myself relying more on the AnimEigo subs at the beginning, but I'm gravitating more towards the ADV subs with the later episodes. And um, yeah. Both of them are better than Robotech, am I right?
-
Yes, they are different. Sometimes a little bit, sometimes a lot. Mostly it's just a little bit, though. One of them might say, "Having been rejected by Minmay, Hikaru wanted to throw himself off a building" while the other will say, "Hikaru wanted to jump off a skyscraper since Minmay rejected him." Things like that.

I'm curious to see how they'll dance their way out of this one... http://www.robotech.com/community/forum/re...&id=2027877

VFTF1 is a great BS'er, of that there is no doubt. However, you're an engineer...so I'd put my money on you. Um, yeah...the cracks-in-the-windows explanation doesn't really work for me, either. The whole scene kind of reminds me of the "Miss DJ" drama album, where Minmay is giving her radio show, and then the Zentradi attack...and suddenly the audio is filled with explosions, laser, and missile sound effects. And I always wondered...if she's inside the ship, how come she can hear battle sounds? It would've been better there, I think to put a lot of muffled rumbles in the audio instead. Likewise, in Mac7, having the ship lurch violently might have gotten the point across just as well. I kind of want to mention VFTF1's use of the term in medias res, because it's a term that I used when I first started composing my earlier post, but then discarded...I was going to address it, but it kind of slipped away from me. Anyway, what I think is interesting is that the show DOESN'T begin in medias res. This is the aliens' first attack, this is Mylene's first concert, this is the first combat experience that the bridge bunnies and Diamond Force (except maybe Kinryu) have ever seen. It's very clearly the BEGINNING of the story...and yet, we see WHAT everyone does, but we have no idea WHY. That's kind of interesting, if not a little post-modern. Interestingly, looking it up on Wikipedia, this episode was written by Sukehiro Tomita, who also wrote DYRL, Macross II, and a lot of episodes of the original SDFM.
