  1. I know where you can see that, too...and I don't necessarily think it a bad thing. The show's got wide appeal...what's wrong with that? Some like it for the mecha, some like it for the characters, some like it for the music, and it's a big hit. By the way, I just got issue 3 of Macross Ace...and they gave Itano a regular column in the magazine; gosh, he hates it so much that he's writing for it now...
  2. You DO realize how long it takes to work out everything involved for a show...story, characters, mecha... It's not like they could watch 00, and say, "Hey, let's get a sniper in our show, too! And make him a main character! Quick Risa, make the character! Hiroyuki, write him into the story. And Shoji, get on designing that Valkyrie. We've got to overhaul everything! You've got five months." Now, possibly, there was some back and forth during the planning, as you suggest...but after 00 started...no. It would be too late at that point.
  3. Ah...Caprica Six. Now I get it. Seriously, that was one of the best episodes of the entire series so far. It must have been fun for the actors...from nervous and on-edge Baltar and cool and collected Six to nervous Six and cool Baltar. And I'm glad to see that Boomer is still well, so to speak. So let's see...Lucy Lawless is Three, the P.R. guy who looks kind of like Steve Carrell is Five, Six is Six, and Sharon is Eight...do I have that right? Am am I reading too much into it to think there's a Prisoner reference in all this...? Don't answer that.
  4. Hmmm...I'm kind of attached to Sharon, and they can kill her as many times as they want. I also like Roslin a lot...and I was POSITIVE that she was going to die, but she didn't (I assume it WILL happen at some point, though...I mean, there's the prophecy and all that...but then, her vision of "a dozen snakes" was interpreted differently by Baltar and Six...so...I dunno). I like the Chief a lot, and I liked Billy. Starbuck of course is awesome...Lee was a douche at the beginning, but I've warmed up to him a bit. Gaeta's pretty great, too. But I think my all-time favorite is the chain-smoking doctor. Pure comic genius!
  5. Well, the show got better right quick...but I can't believe they killed Billy...
  6. Three things I liked about "Black Market": 1) Again with the parallels: Roslin offers Baltar "a way out," just as the crime boss offers Lee "a way out." 2) Prostitution and black market goods would be a reality in the fleet, and it was nice to see them addressed (but with Lee? Young man, I'm gravely disappointed in you! ). 3) Lee shooting the guy in the middle of a typical "You're not going to pull the trigger" speech. Other than that...yeah...I think it was an interesting experiment, to try to fit a cop-show story into the Galactica world, but it didn't work. Maybe it would've been better as a continuing subplot across three or four episodes, rather than crammed into one. Everything moved too fast, and there was no real sense of momentum to it.
  7. Hmmm...I'll probably end up buying the DVDs if I find them used...I'll probably check 'em out then.
  8. F'r cryin' out loud... If anyone wants a copy of my translation of Macross the First, just PM me. I haven't finished Chapters 3 and 4, but that's because I've been, y'know, translating a full book.
  9. Yeah..."Black Market" and "Scar" were both less satisfying than the previous episodes...but maybe that's just because it seems like Starbuck and Apollo are both losing their edge, and that's something that I don't really want to see happen. It makes sense as far as the story's concerned (in other words, I think the story NEEDS to go there), but it's not the kind of thing that grabbed me about the show. What was so compelling about the miniseries and the first season was seeing normal people put into positions where they had to make impossible decisions, with high-stakes ramifications. After Pegasus, it seems to be asking, "What happens when people are sick of making those choices, and being pushed to the brink every day?" And the answer so far seems to be, "They want oblivion." Which is reasonable, and something they need to deal with, but Lee wishing for death and Starbuck becoming a sloppy drunk...well, it's not fun to watch.
  10. Its not spazzing out...it's WALKING! Isn't that the most awesome thing you've ever seen? And they say Robotech added nothing new to the mix...
  11. SHARON'S the Cylon God...? Man, I was POSITIVE it was gonna be Dirk Benedict...
  12. Um, yeah...I just finished watching that one a few minutes ago. I thought it was okay, but I didn't understand what Helo's Gene Kelly-style dance sequence had to do with anything.
  13. Y'know...that makes such perfect sense that I'm shocked no one thought of it before...
  14. Really??? I can't WAIT for that episode!!! I'll post a big long essay about how cool it is when I get there!!! Man, just when I thought the show couldn't get any awesomer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I dunno...I don't buy it. Michael was a pretty important character, and I imagine they would've had everything in place for him by Summer 2008...especially since the show was MEANT to debut in Fall 2007.
  16. Oh, you mean the Imperious Leader is going to arrive? Is the Muffit going to make an appearance as well?
  17. Kain's dead, Roslin's alive, Sharon gets to keep her baby (for now), and I have absolutely NO IDEA where the show is going next. Pretty exciting feeling, actually.
  18. So it only took the Frontier staff six months to slap together the show? Fast work, considering most TV anime is in development for a few years before they debut.
  19. I was hoping someone would notice that...
  20. "Good version." He said, "good version." There have been a number of bad ones.
  21. Mods, put this...thing out of the airlock.
  22. Good. Misinformation is preferable to genuine spoilers.
  23. I trust my supplier. She's very careful and making sure I get it all in the right order, and will revela no spoilers. (When we talk about the show, mostly I talk and she just nods silently with a half-smile on her face. Once, when I was telling her which characters I liked the best, she said, "I totally know which episodes you are going to loooove. That's about the extent of it, although she did let slip that the Six that hangs around Baltar will become known as "Caprica," which puzzles me at this point...but I'm sure it will all come clear eventually. It also helps that she hasn't finished the series herself. She's about halfway through Season 4.)
  24. CRAP, THAT'S RIGHT! THE COLORING BOOKS!!! I just did a search, and check it out: My soul weeps at these pages. But yeah...too kiddie, especially for a cartoon that bored kiddies to tears (I remember most of the other kids in school deciding that the show had too much love story BS, not enough giant robots fighting. Voltron, they claimed, was much better). Technically, I don't think I ever "carried" the card anywhere, except to one of my drawers, were I put it away for a while, and then eventually threw it out (at least, I guess I did. I have no recollection of doing so, but I sure don't have it anymore.)
  25. No longer "kind of." She and Adama are planning to kill each other now. I love the parallels that they through into the show...the episode titled "The Resistance" featuring TWO resistance movements (President Roslin escaping Galactica contrasted against the resistance on Caprica), the episode that begins with a drop of Chief's blood hitting the ground and ending with a drop of Sharon's blood likewise hitting the ground, the cross-cutting between the two assassination plots in the episode I just watched...it's all well-thought-out, and very, very smart. And yeah, my DVD supplier mentioned that Razor was really good; I'm sure she'll hand over the DVD when the time comes.
