  1. EXACTLY. I agree wholeheartedly with JB0 here. It's all about the POWER OF LOVE AND SONG CONQUERING ALL!!!
  2. My DVD provider said that she started with Season 3, and felt a great attachment to Helo, because, as she put it, "one of the first episodes I saw was a Helo episode. Looking back on it, it wasn't very good, but it made me like him." I *think* she was talking about "A Measure of Salvation." I dunno. I liked it okay. I just finished watching "Hero," which didn't thrill me too much. It gave some important backstory, and seems to signal Tigh's return to responsibilty, but it did so in a not-very-interesting way. I'm finding the Cylons fascinating, though. The "projection" stuff was interesting, the Hybrid was very cool in a Delphic oracle sort of way, and Baltar having a three-way with Caprica and Warrior Princess Xena was something of a surprise.
  3. As per the "keep it here, folks" rule, I posted my response here: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=809536
  4. A response to this thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=31827 Heh. Memo put that video up at RT.com under the title, "WANNA TASTE OF WHAT THE RLAM WILL BE LIKE?" or something like that. In other words, "look! Here's an amateur video with robots in it! Robotech has robots! So they're very, very similar! Isn't that amazing!?"
  5. I'm not. My Eva DVDs are all packed away in storage (except for 1.01). I could download the series, but that's going to take awhile. EDIT: I did find this: http://wiki.evageeks.org/Theory_and_Analysis:Eva-03%27s_Soul The information that the pilot's mother's soul is always inside the Eva comes from the game Evangelion 2, for Anno was heavily consulted, and which is considered canon. FURTHER EDIT: Hmmm...I think you're right about that... ...where he says (IIRC), "tell my sister there's nothing wrong with me." If his sister had been killed in order to put her soul into the Eva, wouldn't someone, somewhere have mentioned it? I think it's a real stretch to say, "At Toji's request, they put her in a better, NERV-run facility. This means they killed her and put her soul into Eva-03." And, I just checked through Evangelion Chronicle, and there is nothing about it in the sections for Toji, Eva-03, or EPisodes 17 and 18. I also don't remember anything about it in the DVD liner notes. And no one on evageeks forum has ever raised this question. So where is Keith getting his information from? Besides, how long do you think Toji would work for NERV if his sister died? They weren't PLANNING on the Eva-03 to be used only once, it was meant to be long-term, I believe. Since moving his sister was his only condition, I would imagine that if she died, he would stop piloting the Eva.
  6. Thank goodness I didn't read this until now...I would've been pissed if I'd read it before I watched episode 6 (which I just finished). EDIT: Whoops, I meant episode 7...
  7. But, but... Yui: "Disappeared" (and presumed dead) after the experiment that put her soul in the Eva. Kyoko: Also dead. Touji's sister: Still alive to berate him even after Toji gets put in the hospital. The Newtype 100% book, the Newtype filmbook, Evangelion Chronicle...NONE of these mention anything about Touji's sister in connection with Unit 03. Can you give me more solid proof than just the fact that his sister was moved to a better facility?
  8. *sigh* (Now, obviously, I haven't seen this play out yet - although my DVD provider told me that throughout most of Season 1, they had no idea what they were doing with Helo and Sharon, and they made THAT work - so I'm speaking in general here.) Why don't they plot it all out AT THE BEGINNING? I mean, I realize it's TV and all, and they want to make any series run for as long as they possibly can, but there's still a lot to be said for starting at the end and plotting backwards. Or at least having an end point in mind, and all the major steps along the way. If the Cylons have taught us anything, it's that YOU NEED TO HAVE A PLAN. Baltar is VERY interesting. It's difficult not to like him (for me at least), and I kinda sorta want him to succeed, or at least survive, despite the fact that his actions cause A LOT of real suffering, death, and destruction. He's just THAT charming.
  9. We really need to get the housewives to do that...something like M.O.P.S. (Mothers Opposing Pineapple Salads). No one will take it seriously if it's just a bunch of otaku shut-ins complaining about it, but if you get concerned mothers involved, you've got real traction.
  10. That's a REAL good question...
  11. Suddenly, I *really* don't know where the show is going (which is a good thing!). Cylon diseases? Beacons left by the 13th colony? Cylons want to settle on earth? Good stuff. Again with the parallelism, as Starbuck cutting her (awesome scene), putting on her uniform, and getting back in the groove is contrasted with Tigh staying in his room, getting drunk. (Oh...and a nice parallel I forgot to mention before...in the miniseries, when Baltar realized that everything was falling apart, (and after he tried to call his lawyer ), his only thought was how to stay alive. In Exodus Part II, when Baltar realized that everything was falling apart, he begged Gaeta to shoot him. I think he meant it, too. Clearly, some major shifts have gone on inside the guy's head...)
  12. Strange...according to Macross Chronicle, episode 19 happens in November 2009 as well, and episode 20 is the first one that happens in December... But yes, whatever...Commander Focker passed away sometime this past week. In his memory, let's all fight while we're drunk, ogle a fifteen-year-old girl's legs, or teach a young friend "how a man treats a woman." He would've wanted it that way.
  13. Then she did a good job...the impression I got was that she knew, but was trying to temporarily "forget" in order to gag the stuff down. Yes, yes, yes...and then, instead of shrilly berating Tigh as she would've done a year and half before, she simply accepted her fate with grace and dignity. Gaeta clearly would have gone out of the airlock with similar dignity, were it not for the mention of the dog bowl...
  14. I'm giving you a choice. Either put on these glasses, or start eating that trashcan.
  15. Well, I knew that moment of triumph couldn't last...the secret tribunal making people "disappear" was pretty...icky. Thank goodness Roslin is president again. And I'm really curious what's going to happen to Baltar. Part of me TOTALLY wants him to get up on that high-chair, and dramatically intone, "Centurions, destroy Adama and his pitiful fleet!" And then the Centurions will say, "By your command," and waddle out of the room. But somehow...I just don't think that's going to happen.
  16. Trying to peddle it...? She's been succeeding at peddling it for quite a while now; maybe not as much as she used to, but she had quite a long string of bestsellers there for a while... (Needless to say, "bestseller" and "me" usually don't mesh well...I only managed to get through the first two and half books before hitting the "thanks I've had enough" phase.)
  17. I agree (mostly) with your first paragraph, but... In the series, there's nothing that states or even implies that Shinji is in CONTROL of Instrumentality, whereas in the movie, he clearly was. Plus, in the show, he accepts Instrumentality; in the movie, he rejects it. But yeah, in the end...it's all about him, for better or for worse. As for the idea that EoE is Anno's revenge on the fanboys...I don't buy it, for the simple fact that the movie is too well-done. Lavish visuals, a great screenplay, wonderful and innovative direction...there's too much care put into it for it to be a simple "F-U."
  18. I think it's more clearly an indication of just how little I wanted to do any "real" work today. Of course, everyone makes gaffes and mistakes and comes off as an idiot sometimes. But some do it a little more often than others. My point was that those people are generally not listed as credible. So if they come up with something that seems difficult to believe, people are less inclined to believe it, unless it's accompanied by firm evidence. The solution is simple: check your info before you post it, or else clearly mark it as a rumor or as a possibly misremembered fact. It's not THAT hard.
  19. A couple of places. First, I don't see where he got that Toji's sister's soul was inside Eva-03. It's not hinted at in the show, or in any of the extra material I've ever read. Second, I believe that the TV ending and the EoE ending are different. Keith believes they're the same. EDIT: here was my rationale: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=696327 I could add a little bit more to it now, based on the info presented in Evangelion Chronicle, but I'm too lazy to do that right now.
  20. Further recalibrations necessary...please hold...all right! We're back on track!
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lu8RwvnJpM 0:21 to 0:25, or 0:40 to 0:45...take your pick.
  22. Most of the people who the movie would be marketed towards weren't around in 1985, anyway. When both Tiffany AND Billy Idol came out with Tommy James and the Shondells covers in the mid-to-late eighties, it made me think that Tommy James must have been some really massive '60s music star who I had just never heard of before. Of course, he wasn't, but I got fooled...and I can't have been the only one.

  24. Um...yeah, I know that. I did a year of NOTHING BUT Classical Studies my freshman year in college. Most of Plato and Aristotle, Xenophon, Homer, Thucydides, Herodotus, all the Greek tragedies and most of the comedies, Euclid's "Elements of Geometry," so on and so forth. If it didn't get lost at Alexandria, I've probably read it (remembering it, though...that's the tough part. ) So when Ellen said, "I need a drink," she knew what was in it...? She's a lot stronger than I gave her credit for... And yes...I agree with David. Tigh is probably the best-written character in the show. I find him difficult to like, but easy to admire...even when I disagree with him or feel pity for him.
