I'd imagine that Shammy threatening to rip our pants off would be CUTE. Veffidas threatening to rip your pants off would be SCARY.

I think it looks fine. Although Mikimoto has said that MTF is the first manga he's done completely on the computer, so maybe that's part of it. What bugs me about it is that he changed a fair number of pages for the book...just look at Hikaru buzzing the airfield in the magazine version vs. the book version...

Enh, they did a good job, I think, not a "damn fine" one. I haven't watched the whole series with the THORA subs, but whoever did them (I believe they're from the Aone/Gekkostate/Menclave versions...?) in the episodes I saw definitely flubbed a few lines...and of course, I can't think of any good examples now... The subs are pretty good, and better than a lot of the Frontier subs. But I don't think anyone's done a REALLY good sub job yet.

It was probably specifically designed for Minmei, so it could ALWAYS be her time to be a star!

That's BEYOND ridiculous. Lucky for us, it has nothing to do with the truth, and thus has nothing to do with Macross World.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
Gubaba replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Having finished Super Scouts Part 2, I think it's only fair to list the things I like about Galactica 1980. 1. The rearranged version of the main theme isn't bad. 2. I like how the opening credits recycle all the best special effects shots from the original show, and have no connection to Galactica 1980 itself. 3. The occasional songs that pop up in the background: Billy Joel's "My Life," Fleetwood Mac, Anne Murray singing "Daydream Believer." It's oddball and unexpected. 4. Seeing the Universal Studios backlot. Considering that for a while there as a kid, I went to Universal Studios for my birthday every year, a lot of it looks quite familiar (and once, I even got picked to ride the stationary motorcycle on the sound stage with the blue screen behind it. Unfortunately, it didn't fly, but I was probably on exactly the same stage the Galactica actors were when they filmed the motorcycle close-up shots). 5. The way the three-part debut set up the series to be about Troy and Dillon chasing Xavier (whose name some characters pronounce "Zavier" and others "Havier"), but that gets entirely ignored in "The Super Scouts." And, um...that's about it really. -

Y'know, I think you're right, but I'm unwilling to go look it up. Now, THIS on the other hand, is wrong, and I know because one of my freidns made the same mistake a few months ago, and though the that the show was based on the books. The first book says it's "based on the teleplay," so the show DEFINITELY came first. It's possible that Baltar was executed in the book...he was certainly executed in the movie version of the pilot. -

I can't. It was a rental. No way in hell I would buy this damn series... Y'know, I wonder...I sometimes come across people who (for whatever reason) prefer the old Galactica to the new Galactica...but I wonder if there's anyone who really, REALLY likes Galactica 1980, and thinks that it's the high point of the saga. I hope there is. I'd like to shake his hand. -

I'm dutifully putting in the DVD right now... -
I didn't say I invented it or anything. ...but ya gotta admit, it's appropriate.

I think most of us saw Plus first...I know I did. I got Plus as it came out in the US, and kept waiting and waiting for someone to release Mac7, until I realized I could just go to the video stores in Little Tokyo and rent the VHS tapes. That was, like, 1996 or thereabouts. And it wasn't until MUCH later that I saw it with subs.

Don't tempt me, don't tempt me... Back on topic, I should've already sat down and watched "The Super Scouts, Part 1"...but some some reason, I keep putting it off. I have no idea why... -

And, Sir, Thank you for giving me YET ANOTHER chance to correct your mistakes! Do you have any other menial, dull chores you'd like me to do for you? -
I think you're thinking of a something else. There was a scene in Fast Times that had to be changed in order to get a R rating, but it wasn't like that.

If Agent ONE were a Valkyrie, he'd look like one of those...
-
Heh. That sounds like something that would happen here in the U.S. Although here, I think it's mostly the '80s kids that like Robotech, and the '90s kids that despise it.

Yeah, I've heard of the confusion caused in the Philippines, with Macross AND Robotech both being run. So, in your honest opinion...which one is better known? (I'm guessing Macross, based on all the Filipino Frontier fans, but it'd be nice to be sure.) Or is it a generational thing? '80s kids like Macross, '90s kids like Robotech...that sort of thing?
-
Hmmm...it didn't even occur to me to try. EDIT: The site itself says it's inaccessible, though...doesn't it?
-
Sort of. The first episode of Plus was released on August 25, 1994. Macross 7 debuted on October 16 of the same year. Plus Episode 2 came out on January 1, 1995, between episodes 11 and 12 of Mac7. Plus episode 3 was released on Feburary 21 (between episodes 18 and 19 of Mac7) and the final episode was June 25 (same day as Mac7 episode 36). So viewers watching at the time would've seen the Fire Valkyrie BEFORE they saw the YF-19, and by the second episode of Plus, were probably ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that the 19 would win Project Supernova.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

I finished "Galactica Discovers Earth Part III" (Galactica 1980 episode 3) this evening. I'm not really sure why I'm putting myself through such punishment. -
One of my Japanese friends, who is a big Macross fan, went to China for college and saw Robotech while he was there. I asked him what he thought about it, and he said it just confused him, and he couldn't figure out why anyone would bother to change Macross so much. My question is, why is Robotech the version that made it to China?

As far as I know, no one. Robotech.com, at least, is apparently not accessible in Japan.
