Well THAT was a barnstormer of an episode... And Az...I apologize for not believing you about Starbuck's death. Anyway, yeah...a very bleak episode indeed, and A LOT that's massively mysterious and confusing. Looking forward to more. -

I was? I'm not sure I ever considered doing Orguss...I was thinking of doing the Area 88 manga once I finished up Macross...but that would be another "epic" project, and something short 'n' sweet like Orguss might be worthwhile. I dunno. We'll see.

VTVF1 how imagine I find you here!!!!!!! VTFT1 I'm going to be as plain as I can about this. you are know where near the awesomeness that I am and all you do is cry cry cry. I hasve over 9000 lessoners and who are you no one thats who. So before you cry about it to your exparts like Seto and jasnoc think about who great I am and how you are nothing more then a joke. So I might get banded for saying this I don't care. I don't need Macross groupys when I've got my 9000 lessoners how many lissoners do you have! oh wait you don't have a podcast. I bet you feed in formation to jt like jasnic does, any whey he is the official podcaster of the I wanna say Macross Porists. Not you. Not Seto. So he is the number one macorss purist. As for your robotech III I really doing the problem is what you have been trying to do from Harmony Gold as it is some much from the fact that the anime you show has really frat wording all over the place. FTTV1 the fact is you cant shut up. Thats no my option that's fact. Keep in mind you cant stop me in how retarted I can and have already mad macros look. May bee you want to be a guess on my podcast? You can talk about macorss and ill mak you look like the joke you are. and that's the turthe.

I like the fact that he praises the SDF-1 toy, which is one of the few Matchbox Robotech toys that was just a re-release of the Japanese toy (with the missiles taken out, of course, so that dumb kids wouldn't choke on them).

"No comment," eh? I can only think of three things that could mean... You didn't look for any proof. You looked, but didn't find anything. You looked and found something that contradicted your claim, but you don't want to say that. So which is it...?

Can't be. We already had their DYRL sheet (and yeah, they were all on the same page there as well). Who, oddly enough, have the same voice actor. Tangetially, I have to say that one of the annoyances of the Manga Ent. version of Macross Plus is calling Neumann "Yang" instead of the name the creators probably intended: "Jan." It's normal Scandanavian male name, and makes a hell of lot more sense than suddenly making him half-Chinese. Maybe its for The Galaxy is Calling Me or Dynamite 7...? Movin' right along, aren't we? It's about time!

Well...it's like old comic books. Tons of stories out there of moms throwing out kids' comics because no one ever thought they'd be worth anything, right? And 95% of the time, the moms were right. Most of these little companies, like Harmony Gold, or Sandy Frank Productions, or whoever did Tranzor Z, well, they were in it for a quick buck. Buy some cheap cartoons from Japan, and turn 'em into something they could sell to local TV stations. The thought that one day, people in the west would be interested to see the shows in their original form probably never entered the companies' minds. And often, that's the case. There used to be a show on when I was a kid (dunno if it was local or national) called "Family Film Festival," featuring Tom Hatten as the host (who had this weird penchant for sketching pictures of Popeye while he talked). They showed A LOT of low-budget kids' films, mostly foreign, like Pippi Longstocking, The Water Babies, stuff like that. And every once in a while, they'd show what was clearly a Japanese anime film, usually some (very free) adaptation of a literary classic, like Gulliver's Travels or Cinderella or something. None of them were all that good, and I guarantee that very few people are currently clamoring for a subtitled blu-ray release of any of them. EDIT: Found it. Turns out it was local: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Hatten

Hmmm...I'll probably watch the extended cut first, and then at some later point watch the televised version. And I went ahead and watched Face of the Enemy, which I found a bit...puzzling. The problem is that I had to watch the interrogation scene with Baltar a few times before I could make out what Baltar said: "I know what your Eight did." Does this mean that Gaeta KNEW she was executing people? Or just that he suspected it, but refused to face it? And, um...Gaeta's bi? For some reason, I'm not surprised. -
No, of course they wouldn't. NO ONE would go to bat for Studio Nue or Big Westy like that. The only reason Disney could be arsed to do so was because Miyazaki's films routinely outperformed theirs in Japan.
-
I don't know if (producer of "Battle of the Planets") is still doing anything or not, or if he still has connections with Tatsunoko, but the situation with Robotech definitely has parallels with "Warriors of the Wind," the Roger Corman-producedEnglish version of "Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind." Miyazaki was so unhappy with the English version (and rightfully so) that it took A LOT of wheedling and coaxing for an English version of the manga to come out. And then, it took Disney buying the rights to all of Miyazaki's films before a proper English version of the movie could be released. So yeah...American distribution companies pissing off the Japanese creators HAS happened before, and in Nausicaa's case, it took twenty years to get a good release of it in the Western market...and even then, it required Disney flexing some of its considerable muscle to make it happen.

You mean YOU don't punctuate every other sentence with "Bloo-blipblip"...? EDIT: By the way, Wanzerfan, I'm guessing you gave up on your theory that there's a different death scene for Korg out there...?

Oh...and one more thing: I skipped the extended version of "Unfinished Business" back in Season 3, which was apparently a mistake. Should I go for the extended versions in Season 4.5? Or stick to the broadcast versions? -

By the way...it seemed that the model ship destroyed in Adama and Tigh's fistfight seemed...cheaper...than the one Adama smashed up in Season 3. Oh...and I'm downloading "Face of the Enemy" right now. I kind of want the Season 4.0 to sink in a little bit before moving on to 4.5. With the earth being found, but the Final Cylon unrevealed...I really have no idea where the show's going to go next. I'm curretly wondering about how many Twos and Sixes and Eights they have to help them out...and if there are basestars populated with Tighs and Tories and Sams and Galens. It seems like everything's poised for a DYRL-style shootout over a destroyed earth (in fact, I half-expected the Prometheus to be among the wreckage )...but that wouldn't take ten episodes. IY'know...after I finished Season 3, I had a sneaking feeling the Cylon would turn out to be Starbuck's mom. Now they seem to be hinting it's Gaeta, but if that's the case, it seems like they're making it a little too obvious, what with the aforementioned singing. For a few seconds, I totally believed Deanna when she told Roslin that she (Roslin) was a Cylon. To the writers' credit, they may be making up everything as they go along, but it sure doesn't FEEL like that anymore. Season 3 was seeming a little sketchy towards the end, as though they were throwing balls in the air and thinking, "We'll figure out how to catch them later." But the first half of Season 4 has felt very assured, smooth, and confident. I went back to the beginning of this thread and read the first few pages (SHAME ON ALL OF YOU WHO HUNGERED FOR CALLIE'S DEATH! SHAME!!), and I guess I can see where, following it week by week, it seemed like not a lot was happening...but for me, viewing Season 4.0 together over two days, it all works beautifully. I also thought the article about the "Last Supper" picture that someone linked to was interesting...however, I can't believe the conclusion that the Final Cylon is either Starbuck or Apollo. (At least, I *think* that's what they concluded.) But no matter, the "Last Supper" picture itself is quite cool, so I snatched it. Not quite as iconic as the poster for the Sopranos Season...5, I believe...the one that showed all the characters who had died throughout the series, but cool nonetheless. -

Oh, I'm sure it does. Y'know, even EXPECTING earth to be "dead," I found that final scene to be quite shocking. But it seems like a Galactica rule that anytime anyone seems happy for more than 30 seconds (or they spend more than 30 seconds establishing something "routine," be it a Raptor mission, Viper training, maintenance work, anything), then something terrible is going to happen immediately afterwards. My DVD Provider mentioned last night that there were more webisodes to watch before I went on to 4.5, but she also mentioned that they weren't on the DVD. Anyone know what gives...? -

When old men have a fist fight...it's always the model ships that suffer. Please...think of the model ships. -
I went out with a girl for a while named 春菜. My nickname for her was "Cabbage" (or sometimes "Squash").

Well, her name's back in the opening credits, at least... -
I believe it's a retcon. Certainly, the first place it was ever STATED was in the "Macross: A Future Chronicle" short film that was included on the original Japanese laser disk of Macross Plus Vol. 1. The second place it was stated was in Macross 7 episode 1. You haven't seen Flashback 2012, have you? That relies much more on DYRL footage and designs than it does on the TV series, and yet it neatly wraps up both versions of the story. My impression (and it's ONLY my impression; I have no proof for it at all) is that they didn't really choose which version was canonical until they were more or less FORCED to...and even then (as you well know), it really doesn't matter much, since they pick and choose from either as they see fit.

Enh, I guess it's no biggie, really. As jenius pointed out, it's kind of amazing that I've gotten as far as I have with this much ignorance about where the show is going. So no worries, no hard feelings, and enjoy Season 4 of Lost. So anyway, I went out to breakfast with my Mom today and she gave me a big box for my birthday containing ALL SIX Galactica DVD box sets. (Makes me a *little* annoyed that I bought Razor, since I figured that wouldn't be included with Season 4, but hey...it was only five bucks, and it's got much niver packaging than the thinpack DVD that comes with Season 4.0.) Anyway, I watched the first four episodes of season 4 back-to-back, and what erth will be like is really the last thing on my mind, what with everything else going on. I was rather shocked that Kally was killed (although David Hingtgen hinted a while back that at least one of the girls I thought was cute would die)...and I thought it was rather wickedly symbolic that she was executed, by a Cylon, in the same way that the Cylons are traditionally killed. (Tori is clearly the Cylon to watch, since she seems to be ...how shall I put it... not resisting what she is as much as the other Penultimate Four are. In fact, she seems to be beginning to enjoy being a Cylon. And after killing a human...well, there's kinda no turning back after that, is there?) Tigh is getting very interesting indeed...he seems to be using Six in much the same way that Baltar does, as a tool for self-exploration. The difference being that I'm 99% sure that Baltar is human, and so he plumbs more psychological depths with his Six, while Tigh seems (understandably) more interested in the "nuts and bolts" (as it were) of how Cylons work. Speaking of Baltar...why did he see Caprica Six's imaginary Baltar? (Don't answer that. ) Weird scene... As for Kara...I no longer believe she's dead, and I don't think she was captured by Cylons. I'm worried that it'll turn out that she was rescued in by some re-imagined analogue to the "Beings of Lights" from the original show, but that may just be the after-effects of watching "The Return of Starbuck" from Galactica 1980 a few days ago. On a technical note, I enjoyed seeing the repair work on the ring-shaped ship. Really, while the space battles are cool and all, I almost enjoy watching the "daily life" stuff (repairs, shuttles zipping back and forth between larger ships) more than the big combat sequences.
