Don't bother...Wanzerfan's a hopeless case. He's only seen Macross II and Macross Plus, and he hated the latter.

Um...what Miriya has is the SV-51. From Macross Zero. You've at least seen Macross Zero, haven't you...?

It's the same trailer as the one Repiv Onex linked to before:

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
Gubaba replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Hmm...I think it's unfair to expect the movie to cover events that it never promised to. I thought it was a nice little coda, cleverly done (although I'm not sure why David Hingtgen said I shouldn't watch it before Daybreak...to me, it seems like, for a first-time viewer (something I'll never be again, alas), it would slot it quite nicely right before the final episode). I couldn't shake that feeling that it was written primarily to apply a hasty coat of spackle to some of the nastiest plot holes in the series, but I thought it did a pretty good job of doing it. But...did I miss something, or did they not say what happened to the Simon-the-Cylon who was with Anders' resistance? As far as I can recall, he just kind of disappeared... It also seemed to me that, rather than being "a clip show with a few new scenes tossed in," it was mostly new scenes with a few old clips tossed in for context. -
I disagree. There were a lot of "end of the world" movies in the '70s...and in the '80s...and in the (late) '90s...and throughout the '00s. Hell, there were even a bunch in the '50s and '60s. It's not a recent thing. What IS recent is that CG effects are good enough that you can show a whole city going kablooey without it costing millions upon millions of dollars for a single short sequence (a la Terminator 2).

Probably more than you ever thought possible...

I forgot about This Quiet Earth...yeah, good movie. I haven't seen Threads but I heard it was really good. Children of Men, I found enthralling all the way through. I remember being VERY freaked out by the old Day of the Triffids as a kid...I'd probably find it laughable now...

Military in Macross Frontier...
Gubaba replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Movies and TV Series
Just conjecture. Although it might be explained somewhere in Macross Chronicle or the Frontier novelizations... -
Not Vajra/Invid, just Vajra. And notice that the SEED Archangel has an aft that looks exactly like the Macross Quarter...

I'll second this. The book is brilliant, as is most of Cormac McCarthy's stuff. He's definitely one of the best living American writers. As for movies...well, most post-apocalyptic movies fall into the cheesy-80s-Italian-Mad-Max-Ripoff genre, don't they? Most of the really good apocalyptic movies I've seen aren't action movies, but serious character dramas. I think the best I've seen are probably Testament, When the Wind Blows (which is a cartoon), and The World, the Flesh, and the Devil (starring Harry Belafonte!). I can think of a lot of others that are fun, dumb, entertainment, but those are the only ones I can recall seeing that were genuinely moving. And any list of post-apocalyptic films wouldn't be complete without a mention of !!!

The Departed wasn't a rip-off, it was an adaptation. The US Studio PAID to adapt the story. Completely different situation. I will agree with you that the Hong Kong version was better, though.

Yes. Very much so.

Yeah, it was a good show (and it was nice meeting you, too). The turnout was good, too, which is always nice. I'd also urge everyone to buy Echo (even after nanoplasm runs out of his set, if you buy it from her website, she signs it). It's not terribly "Macross-y," but it IS quite a good album, and the most eclectic albums she's done in years. (Oddly, she seemed surprised when I pulled out the Macross 2009 Anthem to be signed...she said, "Wow, you bought this?" I wonder what she meant... )

Some of the comments on the Nico video are hysterical: "CG from 10 years ago?" "The CG is terrible." "Macross-Aquarion-Dancougar" "This is a joke, right?" and at the very end, some wag wrote "Kira!☆"

I, uh, wasn't actually asking. It was a rhetorical question. MastaEgg was saying that Kawamori only works well if "someone else is keeping him in line." My point was that MastaEgg has no information about how Ishiguro and Kawamori divided the directing duties for DYRL, so he has no basis to say to Ishiguro was keeping Kawamori in line, and actually had no idea what he was talking about.

Kind of. It's on the "Macross Festival '95 Tickemaga" CD, which I believe was some kind of promotional item for the Macross Plus/Macross 7 movies. Luckily, the audio for it is on the Macross 7 DVDs.

If you were watching the original Laser Disks or VHS tapes, you'd find one of these little "Macross 7 Plus" short films at the end of each one. This one was on Vol. 2, and since there were four episodes per LD, this one followed episode 8. Theoretically, they can be watched in any order, at pretty much any point in the series. Both of the remastered DVD box sets have a bonus disc, and all of the Macross 7 Plus shorts (and more) are collected on those.

It's mostly the art. A few pages have been added to the book version. Nothing REALLY major, though. Hikaru buzzing the airfield is about three or four pages longer, as is his conversation with Focker, and a couple of other scenes. There's some added dialogue here and there, too, and the captions stating the characters' names now also give their rank and position.

Okay...here's the deal with my scanlation: I scanned the magazine version for issues 1 and 2, and translated issue 1. Jasonc did all the Photoshop work for it (some of you have this version). I still haven't finished the translation for issue 2, for two very good reasons: first, the dialogue for the first issue was about 70% directly from the script of the show, whereas issue 2 deviates from the script quite a bit more; second, My Fair Minmay ended up taking most of my time last summer and fall. And then...the collected volume came out, and I discovered that a number of pages had been redone, which left me with a dilemma...do I upload the magazine version, or redo everything and upload the book version? (There's also the fact that I'd rather people ACTUALLY BUY THE BOOK, rather than just download the scanlation. Who cares if you can't read japanese? Everyone should know the story by now...) I kinda pondered this off and on for the last month or so, and finally decided to go ahead with the book version (perhaps appending the original magazine pages as "deleted scenes"). I spent two hours scanning "Chapter 1" of the book earlier this week, revised the script, and I've started sending everything off to be Photoshopped. The goal is for Chapter 1 to be finished and uploaded next month, with Chapter 2 to follow, in...summer, most likely. I'll make the annoucement here when it's up, so stay posted.

I have no memory whatsoever of "It's You," "the Man in My Life," or "The Right Move," but that's probably for the best. But don't forget the once-mentioned but never-actually-heard Robotech song, "My Boyfriend Is a Pilot." Wonder what that one was supposed to sound like...?

I've never eaten there myself, although there's a Seinfeld episode based on the place...it's the one where the spend the entire episode waiting for a table. The bar is fully stocked, though.

No reservations needed. She goes on at 8:00, and it'll probably be ten or fifteen bucks to get in.

Let's see...there was, "To Be in Love," and...um...one more? I think? I think "Love Drifts Away" is more appropriate to the moment, since it's about hating war, and songs about A) peace, and B) love would probably deliver the biggest mindfucks to the Zentradi. "We Will Win" delivers a sentiment that the Zentradi could really grasp, I think (the sentiment being: VICTORY!!). I may be splitting hairs here, though.
