Kinda related: I saw a bunch of, believe it or not, Southern Cross models (ATAC Armor: Bowie, Adrzej, and Charles) at a CD in Kita Senju a couple of years ago.

I'd prefer lunch then walk around, if it's all right with everyone else.

Lots. There's a short story about it by Kawamori in Macross Perfect Memory (which I haven't gotten to yet). Someone did a translation/summary a while back, though. Ah, here it is: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?...st&p=338763 Be warned, though: the translations are exceedingly incomplete.

I found Megurine Luka singing the gospel version of the Aquarion theme. I win.

I was actually talking about a Partridge Family marathon, but whatever...

This is beginning to remind me of this thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30879

I think I get it...Macross is most people's favorite section of Robotech, right? It was a couple of weeks into the Masters Saga before I discovered that Southern Cross was a completely separate series...before that, I kept waiting for some of the old characters to show up. I can only imagine that if I hadn't found out the truth so quickly, it would've felt like a deliberate tease on HG's part. Especially since the New Generation characters have no explicit ties to any of the previous characters. And Rick Hunter's name starts getting tossed around in New Generation as though they're building up to his triumphant return...and then it's, "Well, he was SUPPOSED to show up, but uh, for reason he's not here." That's the kind of bait and switch that can stick with kids for a long, long time...

Y'know...I always thought I was an Indiana Jones fan until I bought the DVD box set a few years ago. I watched the three movies over three nights, and discovered that really, I was a Raiders of the Lost Ark fan...watching them again for the first time in quite a while, I thought Temple of Doom was a mess, and Last Crusade was just kinda silly. I never saw the fourth movie, and I don't really feel like I missed much.

Oh, I don't think there's a reunion show coming up (or any kind of celebration at all...which makes it kinda like Robotech, no?). I just picked something silly that has an anniversary coming up. SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE is probably gonna have some kind of party or marathon or something for it, though. I'm glad I don't know that person.

Man...looks like Kakizaki's about to make a nosedive into the sea...

I don't think so, unless Sketchley's holding out on us.

It was on KCOP Channel 13. I saw it with one of my friends, but I had quite number of people after the fact assure me that it never existed. To be honest, I didn't know MUCH about Macross. I'd seen an ad in Starlog Magazine for the HG-Produced Macross VHS tape (I didn't end up seeing the video itself until later) and there had been an article in the Parada Magazine supplement that came with the LA Times that talked about Japanese robot toys and how they generally came from cartoons. They focused on Macross a bit, talking mostly about the Bandai 1/55 toy, but also giving a (very) brief run-down of the story (which wasn't completely accurate). So, seeing the SDF-1 (which had been featured in the ad in Starlog) and the VF-1 made me put two and two together and I realized it was Macross. You mean you're not looking forward to the Partridge Family 40th Anniversary coming up this September 25...?

Well, then at least you were spared the agony of having to tell your friends that, yes, Robotech came from Japan, and no, the stories were not originally connected. I got in so many arguments about that... I had one friend who stopped speaking to me in middle school because I told him (as we watched the final episode of New Generation together) that "Admiral Hunter" wouldn't be showing up. He called me a liar during the commercial breaks, and as it ended, he acted like it was my fault that he didn't appear. (God, I'm glad I'm not twelve anymore...)

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
Gubaba replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Don't remind me...I've been rereading the novels, and realizing yet again how much fun they are, in a way that is TOTALLY UNCONNECTED to any action. Hell, the first book only has two promising big space battles, and both of them are averted without a single shot being fired. -

The book was best, though. The sequel, Spiral, was even better...WAY better than any of the movie sequels. The third book, though, was...weird. I understand what the author was trying to do, and it was an audacious and ambitious move, but I'm not sure it really worked, though. I liked the Juon movies, too. After the first few, though, I think the concept lost a little of its freshness and ability to startle.

Yeah...I guess jokes about black people and watermelons are just too, whattayacall, sophistimacated for me.

If I have to explain the difference between preferring one cartoon more than another, and racist caricatures, then...well...what can one say to that? Have you read the forum rules?

This is so wrong-headed on so many levels that I don't even know where to begin. Just...think before you post.
