That's a thorny one... In 2000 or thereabouts, Robert Woodword of AnimEigo said they looked into getting it, but no one could figure out who owned the rights (since several companies had released around the world over the years, most of those companies had gone bankrupt, and their assets were divvied up to various buyers). Then in 2004, at an HG panel, Tommy Yune said, "We are able to release Macross the Movie as a product." (at about 3:58 or thereabouts.) After that...silence.

I've had the same problem as Renato, and I always download it from the Collection DX site. The Evangelion podcast took about five tries before I finally got the whole thing.

There IS such a thing as the internet, y'know... It's a powerful shopping tool. -
Nah, the actress's hobbies include knitting, making rose blossom tea, and doing laundry.
-
You'd be surprised about how it's often the little things that make us the happiest.
-
Kinda true, but it seems to me that the editors tried to avoid "selectivity" by deliberately putting one or two things that most fans would care DEEPLY about in with one or two things that no one cares about much. The HIGHLY selective fan (say, someone who ONLY likes one particular series) can pick and choose, but most people will have to catch 'em all.

You're right, though. -
As I said, mickyg, RedWolf is terrible about spoilers. Try to avoid his responses.
-
Red Wolf is TERRIBLE about spoilers...best not to read his replies until you've finished the series. Anyway...your question will be answered. Watch and find out.

I can definitely hear the similarity...but the electronic modification placed on Sivil's voice makes it hard to tell. And the Flower Girl is pretty breathy, whereas Sivil isn't... Huh. Still a mystery, I guess.
-
Does anyone know why Sivil's VA is merely a question mark? Did someone famous do her voice?

I'll freely admit it: I don't like Robotech, and my interest in anime was primarily a reaction against it. I think Carl Macek has been overvalued as a creator and a producer. But...he brought Macross to me, and without that, I never would've started studying Japanese, I never would've met so many wonderful people here and elsewhere, and my life would be a lot poorer. So thanks, Carl. You brought some good things into my life, although I didn't know it until today.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-...cek-passes-away Animation historian Jerry Beck reported on his blog on Sunday that American producer Carl Macek passed away due to a heart attack on Saturday. Macek and Beck had co-founded Streamline Pictures in 1988. Macek is best known for producing Robotech, the redubbed and edited adaptation of three different anime series — Macross, Southern Cross, and Mospeada. He also worked on the dubbing of many anime projects from Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years (redubbed and edited adaptation of Captain Harlock and Queen Millennia) to more recently, Bleach and Naruto.

I think that's more effort than any of us care to put into Shadow Chronicles. What would be the point? If the movie had been mega-super-kablammy-successful (like the Star Wars prequels), that would've been one thing. But a small number of people bought it, and a smaller number of people liked it. It'll go away on its own, given enough time.
-
I agree with Jasonc. HIGHLY worthwhile.
-
A while backed, I found some Robotech stuff on Nico Nico Video. Along with clips of Shadow Chronicles (with suitably nasty/funny comments from the viewers...my favorite was when Marcus's pal died, someone wrote "KAKIZAKIIIIII!!!"), I found a collection of all the Matchbox toy commercials. And while some of the comments were making fun of the toys, a lot of people were actually coming out and saying things like "Wow, they're big!" and "I want an American Reguld!" Cam versions are for losers. Sit tight. Read a book. Prune some roses. It'll be out eventually. -
I agree completely. Despite a few errors and gaps, Chronicle has been completely worthwhile. Tons of great info, tons of great art, and I'm really happy that they decided to publish it. I know this is a kind of apples-and-oranges comparison, but I've been getting Gundam Ace pretty much since its inception (I found out about it when issue #2 came out...luckily, the shop also had a few copies of issue #1 in stock as well), and sometimes I've been eager for each new issue, other times I've just bought it out of a sense of obligation. With Macross Chronicle, while some issues I looked more forward to than others, buying it never felt like a chore to me. That said, I'm not unhappy that it'll be ending soon. While I'll miss getting my biweekly fix, 50 issues seems like enough to me. And GETTING those 50 issues has been pretty damn expensive, truth be told...

I dunno...not to turn this into a thread about Roger Ebert, but I have a lot of respect for him. He comes down on A LOT of horror movies or ultraviolent fare, but when the movie in question is GENUINELY GOOD (for example, Last House on the Left and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre [original versions, of course]), he'll review it fairly. So if he says Kick-Ass in morally reprehensible, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of a doubt.

Maybe they all side with Leonard...?
