  1. Wouldn't that be Toynami's problem, not HG's?
  2. Wonder what? Did they steal money from you? Promise services that weren't rendered? Were you an employee and they refused to pay you? They're just a crappy company. There's nothing illegal about being crappy.
  3. Yeah...sorry about that. It's been a number of factors, but I think the biggest one was the March 11 earthquake, which really demolished my powers of concentration for a while. There have also been a number of other issues, both personal and within the project itself. I'd like to finish it just to finish it, but it ain't gonna be soon.
  4. Didn't he also invent the term "Lying Macross Purist"...? Or am I thinking of someone else?
  5. And it's all voiced by Shokotan...
  6. I can't even find the third one INSIDE of Japan!
  7. Didn't you read the first page of the thread? Yes, it's a book.
  8. When topics get too long (usually 60 to 70 pages), they get locked and moved to the "Hall of the Super Topics." They might start a new one...but then again, they might not. It's not as if anything important ever got mentioned in that thread...apart from the disgruntled Robotech fans, I think most of us only go there when we're bored. In the meantime, why not acquaint yourself with the "Movies and TV Series" forum? Lots of interesting stuff going on there.
  9. That's rather expensive for a novel...
  10. Enh, I don't think filling in the gaps in the timeline would've given the magazine any extra push. Sure, the old-timey fans who get off on that stuff are still around, and still into Macross, but really, most of the Macross fans I've seen here in Tokyo are really only into Frontier. So if they had somehow managed to get a really GOOD Frontier comic going, that might have been good as a flagship title. Gundam Ace started out strong, with not only Gundam the Origin to recommend it, but also Hiroyuki Kitazume's Char's Deleted Affair. By the third issue, Mikimoto was doing Ecole du Ciel. Macross Ace, on the other hand, never got anything that could compete with Macross the First. I still had hopes for Macross F: Secret Visions, since it seemed to be going someplace interesting, but that vanished after issue 4. Of course, Gundam has a larger body of work to draw from than Macross does, and can probably attract bigger names, but still...there has to be SOMEONE willing to make a first-rate Frontier-based comic.
  11. All three volumes are easily available from amazon.co.jp, cdjapan, or pretty much anywhere else you can think of. The story's pretty easy to follow, even if you don't speak Japanese.
  12. Well, it can't be terribly "canon" because it diverges almost completely from the story presented in either the TV series or the movie. As for Kawamori's involvement, I suspect (and it's ONLY a suspicion) that he probably gave the manga artist a brief note about Sheryl's past, and let her do all the rest. That said, again, as much as I dislike the story in the comic, I really love the art, and some of the concert scenes are beautifully done.
  13. And to be clear, NO ONE should be paying ¥9000 for this book. It's a bargain at ¥1500, but it's a rip-off at that price. It's a popular book. They'll print more.
  14. Looked at it closely, yes. Actually sat down with a Japanese dictionary and read it, no. Again, the story's not very good but the art is excellent.
  15. HA! Wait til you see Volume 2... EDIT: The art reamains spectacular, however.
  16. Or "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish"...?
  17. An email I got from one of my friends today... Imagine you really, really want to eat strawberry shortcake. You're so hungry for it, you lay out four pieces in front of you, eager to devour it. You know it's not nutritious, or even really wholesome, but it tastes so sweeeeet and it's SO fluffy. The first piece is good, just what you wanted from a piece of strawberry shortcake. You expect the second to taste the same, and to your surprise, it tastes even better. So you would expect the third piece to be just as good, but to your surprise, it tastes a little stale. But it would be natural to hope that the fourth piece would be the saving grace. However, it tastes as if it has been left out in the sun, blanched into styrofoam. All of the pieces were made from the same ingredients, so you would expect them to be almost the same. But your expectations fall, as per everything in life. Now you know how I felt when I saw Pirates 4 today.
  18. The Chie Kajiura concert tonight was pretty damn good. It's clear she was in a mellow, moody kind of vibe...the only peppy show-stoppers she did were "Ready GO" and "PLASTICS." Apart from that, it was mostly a mix of Chie solo songs (old and new), with a relatively small number of Macross songs (apart from the previously mentioned duo, she did "Pillow Dream" and "Kimi ni Todoke," which give a good sense of the overall pace of the show. She also did not one, but TWO Kate Bush covers: "Feel It" (which she did the last time I saw her) and "Rubberband Girl" (which I thought was an exceedingly odd choice, but Chie and her band nailed it). After the show was over, they announced that Chie would be manning the merchandise table, and collecting money for the Tohoku Quake victims. As such, I bought some buttons, and then got to shake her hand (which, yes, means I've finally met both Mylenes...'bout time, considering my Macross World name...)...I also told her I'd love to her her do a Kate Bush cover album. She said she'd love to, but that her English is no good (not true). But BEFORE she helmed the store, she and the guitarist came out and stood next to the bar, and did a beautiful, quiet performance of "Friends ~Jikuu o Koete~." It was really damn awesome. I got to snap some photos before the guy next to me tapped me on the arm and gestured for me to stop...as soon as I can get them on my computer, I'll put them up. But yeah...again, damn good show. And Chie did enough new songs that I certainly hope an album is in the works.
  19. Um...Looney Tunes? The Flintstones? Scooby-Doo?
  20. True...and I suppose they could always, say, adapt Conan of the Isles, in which he abdicates his throne...but that book wasn't very good.
