    Not everything, obviously, but enough to follow the story. And it's not talent, it was necessity. There was no other way to "read" or watch this stuff. NO ONE was translating ANYTHING. Would you buy it if I sent you a detailed synopsis to go along with it?

    Again, I was THIRTEEN when I was "reading" manga...pretty much everyone my age who was into anime and manga in the '80s was forced to do the same, and we were all okay. I wonder what the problem now is?

    Why not? I started buying manga when I was 13, well before I started studying Japanese, and it was usually pretty easy to follow the stories. Same with anime.

    Well...the good news is that nearly all of the comics (except for Macross 7th Code and some of the gag mangas) have been collected in book form, so you don't need to download scans, you can buy them legally.
