Last year, Captain Donovan (the Rosa Parks of Robotech) didn't even know you could LEGALLY BUY Macross Plus, if you can believe that...

Ah, they're not that much...surely you can spare $20.00 or so, yes? And at any rate...the brownie scheme in the comic is same as in the series. Only Hikaru's VF-1J and the VF-1D are different...

As Sketchley said, Newtype Ace #1 is out...I gotta admit, I'm not really eager about buying this magazine every month just to get Macross the First (and the news section: "Macross Ace Plus"). It's monthly (which, yes, probably means more frequent Macross the First...but also probably means fewer pages per issue) and it's more expensive than Macross Ace was...AND there's really nothing else in the magazine that I care about (the debut issue's Gundam the Origin T-shirt isn't bad, though...I wonder if it'll fit me?). (Only one way to find out...) (Huh. A little snug, but not bad.) Anyway, yeah...as Sketchley also said, this chapter is a "special"...

Live Action Space Battleship Yamato
Gubaba replied to capt.actionjackson's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The two biggest problems with the first Transformers movie for me (never saw parts 2 or 3) were the borderline-racist stereotypes and lame, lame "comedy." Yamato didn't have these problems. It had OTHER problems, of course, but overall I found it pretty satisfying. Worth the rental price, definitely.- 450 replies

I really love Macross Plus...but I really hate Top Gun.

Well...let me see if I've got this straight. The books were originally planned as a trilogy. Book I turned out to be too long for a single book, so a quarter of it was cut and saved for Book II. So when Book II came out, GRRM announced that the series would comprise four books. Then he realized the last book would probably become two books, making the total five. There was meant to be a five-year break between books III and IV, but GRRM found filling in the gaps difficult, so he decided to write another book to fill in that time. Once written, it turned out to be too long to publish as a single book, so he chopped it into Books IV and V. Do I have that right? And, if all the above is true, there seems to me a strong possibility that Books VI and VII could eventually become several volumes on their own, as well. Anyway, my point is that if Book IV wasn't part of his original plan, that might account for its lack of action. Meanwhile, I'll ask renegadeleader1's mom for more (but SPOILER-FREE) clarification.

I plan to get around to them...but let me finish the stuff for the original series and DYRL first...

Well...I'm pretty sure it was always intended to be a six-episode series (at least, I've never heard any credible claim to the contrary) but there IS an official continuation in the form of novels. There are five Macross II novels: the first two cover the story of the OVA, the next three (from what I can tell...I have them, but haven't really read them yet) cover Hibiki and Sylvie investigating a Chinese mafia group called (IIRC) "Black Panda," headed by a man who claims to be Minmay's grandson.

The OVA is about thirty or forty minutes longer.

Finished A Clash of Kings and braved the promised (but unmaterialized) typhoon to get A Storm of Swords. Still loving the story, but one of my good friends recently told me that the first two are the best, and that the political intrigue dies down in favor of "OOOOH!! DRAGONS!!!" after that...

WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
Gubaba replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I love that they make a point that the episodes "are in their intended order." Does watching them out of order ruin the overall story arc or something...?- 279 replies

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Gubaba replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
No one's talking about the second movie...you can relax. -
So...it's not the characters or the plot? Okay. I can deal with that.
