Okay...I'm looking forward to this. I'll probably regret that position, but this looks GREAT.

Pinning a Macross timeline in Movies and TV series
Gubaba replied to pfunk's topic in Movies and TV Series
The LINK references the EPISODES THEMSELVES, right? ...so anyone who wants to check out the timeline for themselves can do so, yes? But yeah, I see what you're saying. The problem is that, if you're only using the animated works, the timeline works out (mostly) fine (the "mostly" is because Focker says (to HIMSELF) in SDFM TV Episode 1 that he hasn't seen any action in two years, but Zero flies in the face of that), and if you include Kawamori's original timeline (slightly revised in Macross Chronicle, to correct things like references to the Soviet Union), it's still okay... Hell, even "My Fair Minmay" is okay... But once you start trying to figure out where "Miss DJ" and "Distantly Fading Memories" fit, it becomes MUCH more difficult. And that's BEFORE the Misa novel messes irrevocably with the timeline (setting the "Rain of Death" in 2009, as it does). And that's just the first series... it gets worse as it goes on. Especially when you get to all the Frontier comics and novels and their different continuities. I appreciate Egan Loo's efforts towards trying to make a coherent timeline out of Macross, but I also think he irons over a TON of continuity problems in order to do so. -

Ah, okay...THAT, I can't do. Best I've got is this... http://galaxynetwork.blogspot.com/2009/03/macross-timeline.html and it's nowhere NEAR complete yet. -

Heh...I'm game. How detailed do you want it? (Please don't say TOO detailed...or else all of the little contradictions between dates in various publications will somehow have to be reconciled... For example, Misa Hayase: White Reminiscences has the Zentradi attack a full YEAR before it happens in the series...) -
No, you're right. It broke through the cockpit and released a sealant. That goes for a lot of Macross 7, I think...

*throws in obligatory Plato and Hip-Hop reference from the last time this issue arose*

Yeah...we ARE sure. According to Macross Chronicle, SDFM TV is canon. According to Kawamori, NOTHING is canon. So whatever Macross the First is, it ain't canon.

True...but UNLIKE you, I didn't go on a tirade saying I was sick of this forum, and that all the members are Harry-Potter-loving sheep. I didn't go on a tirade saying I was leaving and never coming back. I didn't attack any members by bringing up Asperger's Syndrome. So my question still stands...you said you hated this place, you hated the members, you hated the mods, you singled me out for a personal attack... Why do you keep coming back?
-
Huh...you've a gift for creating straw men, I'll give you that (at least two in this thread alone). It wasn't your opinion that Macross II is good that I was arguing with, it was this: So I was pointing out that your facts are wrong. Nowhere did I say that your opinion is bad. And nowhere did I say that M7 is "grittier" than SDFM. If you want to debate, fine. But please don't make up statements and pretend that I said them, thanks.

No. From what I've seen, it seems like he suggested, "rock band that uses singing instead of missiles," and left the rest to the staff. Well, Load Master isn't really a NEW member, so it's more a continuation of his old argument.

??? When did I say it wasn't?

No, you can reject it all you want. It's opinion, after all. Mostly, I'm still waiting for you to show some kind proof that Kawamori wasn't responsible for the stuff you liked in SDFM, but was responsible for the stuff you didn't like in Mac7.

Yeah, ONE of us is being contrarian...

Sort of. It's got Macross the First and the Macross Plus manga in it, along with some Macross news and articles every month.
-
Oh, I get it. You're Million Star again, aren't you? Dude, why do you keep coming back?
-
Yeah...but I'd say that overall, Zero probably had the darkest tone.
-
No, I don't agree. As I said, pretty much every interview I've come across seems to put Kawamori at the head of the SDFM planning, but he himself appears to have been too busy working on Plus to do much of anything for Macross 7. Can you point me to any primary material that says otherwise? (I'd also object to your characterization of SDFM as "gritty." I find it pretty light-hearted, overall.)

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
Gubaba replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
He's straight. Macross Chronicle said so. -
To each his own, I guess. I thought the overall concept was fine, but the writing and direction were often not the best. Again... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35259&view=findpost&p=918349

I've said this many times, but you DO realize that Kawamori was pretty much in control of SDFM TV and DYRL, and had almost nothing to do with Macross 7 besides coming up with the initial concept and designing the Valkyries, right...?
