Macross World Forums Turns 10
SchizophrenicMC replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Movies and TV Series
That kinda age makes me look like a newbie! Happy 10th, Macross World! -
Curse you, plot magic! Curse your very soul!

Valid point, but no one even said anything.

Hikaru interfering in a military demonstration flight and receiving absolutely no reprimand for it. That always confused me.

I agree. Nightmare Plus is sexy. This is not.

Poll - which 1/60 VF would you like to see next from Yamato?
SchizophrenicMC replied to Graham's topic in Toys
Figured as much, Eugi. It's incredibly disappointing and makes me want to build Gunpla. Oh well, this means modifications and scratchbuild. -
I skewed the poll data by my first bit of reasoning, here, because I didn't feel like deciding which condition meant more to me. That said, it depends on how you mean "innovative". If you mean an innovation between established Variable Fighters, skip the next paragraph. Otherwise, read it and see what I mean. The VF-0 is the single, most innovative Variable Fighter in existence. It took the fuselage of a plane, threw away the horizontal stabilizers, threw in thrust vectoring paddles, and for the first time, utilized a directed energy weapon in a combat aircraft. Not only that, but it improved over existing aircraft, by allowing the pilot to change the plane's geometry to allow for low-speed and VTOL aerial maneuvers, by vectoring all primary thrust down, and using a set of secondary thrusters for forward mobility. It also added a set of manipulators, for load-handling and modularity of weaponry. It also added a third geometry set, configuring the fighter into a humanoid tank, of sorts. Improved fly-by-wire computers, thruster capabilities, and new armor technologies round off the design. The first of a class of aircraft known as Variable Fighters. The only bit of the design of previous aircraft it retained is certain conventions of fighter airframes. Everything else was entirely innovated upon. (You could argue the SV-51, but I like the Zero, better, plus all that I was able to find about it, puts the start of development for it before the -51 ) Alternatively, within the scale of VF's, I'd say the YF-21. First Fold-capable spaceframe, first Brain Control Interface, radical change in design convention, first to use Pinpoint Barrier, first to use Active Stealth- the list goes on.

Macross Lineart and Profile Color Scheme Art, Round II
SchizophrenicMC replied to Talos's topic in Fan Works
I can not wait, Talos. VF-11's probably my favorite Valk. I drool in eager anticipation. And, thanks for the compliment. I try Wouldn't be anywhere without the work of the real artists here (You, especially), who actually make the lineart I butcher into somewhat-awesome grey and yellow thingamajigs... Okay, I gotta branch out more. Anyone want a VF done in colors that aren't grey and yellow? Please? -
Poll - which 1/60 VF would you like to see next from Yamato?

Why do I get the strong feeling "VF-**" does not refer to the 0D? I'm still hoping, but, as long as it's NOT the VF-17, I'll be happy. (Personally, I think it looks awful, as a design. Too squat and bulky) -
VF-0 Lighter empty mass, greater simplicity of components, and conventionality of design add up to a cheaper, more easily maintained aircraft. While the SV-51's stats indicate greater performance, its structure was more complicated and heavy than the VF-0's, leading to slower transformation times (I KNOW I read that somewhere; I think the M3 used to say it), greater fuel consumption, and lower weapons payload capacity. (From submarine launch, 4 wing hardpoints are inaccessible) I'm gonna compare it to the decision to remove the F-14 from service, in favor of the F-18. The former outstripped the latter in terms of performance, in all but rate of climb. But, it was heavy, fuel inefficient, lacked weapons capacity, and expensive to maintain and produce. The cheaper, and in most respects, inferior F/A-18 replaced the F-14. The F-18 does have its advantages, but the point to be shown is the less costly, more efficient aircraft was selected, because it was easier to field, and could carry greater payloads into combat, and fulfill multiple roles. The VF-0 is lighter, simpler, apparently cheaper, more fuel efficient, capable of carrying far more weapons, and fulfilling multiple roles, at least through a variant of the design. (Wasn't the 0D used for Radar detection? It's been too long since I watched Zero) Because of this, it would win a competition, like Supernova. (The -19 was chosen for the same reasons)

Gotta love Cverlo. The Macross Armageddon trailer was done very well, if you ask me.

Okay, skipping over the VF-0 debate, I have to thank Mr March for his awesome lineart, yet again, and note how self-serving I am, always doing my yellow-on-grey scheme. -
What is your favourite Macross gunpod.
SchizophrenicMC replied to Nicaragua's topic in Movies and TV Series
YF-19. I've always been a sucker for repeating rifles, as opposed to chain-fed gatlings and vulcans, so the closed, apparently-repeating design of the -19's gunpod won big points. But, it was the box-fed magazines that won me over. The ability to reload the cannon in the middle of a firefight means a lot to me. Mmm. Modularity. -
I don't like anything about this. It looks awful. Wings root too far back, it's got SV-51 curves, and doesn't feel very... Alto. I could see Ivanov or Brera piloting it, but Alto? I don't like this, I don't like this at all.

Well, guys, I had to make a post some time or another, and I figured this is it. Now, I know this is just a Katoki of a set I've already done, but hey, I wouldn't feel right if I didn't have something to contribute. So have a Mecha Christmas! -

I use GIMP in a fairly unorthodox method. I use the polygon select (lasso) tool to select which areas I want in the color I want them. Then, I use the Colorize tool to manually change the color value of the selected area. Not the most elegant or quick method, but it works for me. Then again, I never shade anything. -
Why do my eyes keep focusing straight on the weird hip joint?

Hot damn, that looks awesome, dude. All of that. That is WELL beyond my capacity. Now, I must ask, can I steal your awesome lineart for to make custom colorscheme? Normally, I jack March's stuff for that, but the VF-25 CG just doesn't look good when I try to shoop it. (And this is just as awesome more awesome, than his stuff, anyway)

It looks pretty good, and emulates the curves of the actual bird quite well, Talos. I'm, as always, impressed, man. -

Macrossworld, it's been awhile. So, I've come with some awesome to make up for it. EDIT: Aw, crap, I just realized GIMP screwed the Macross Kite's position when it compiled the PNG... Dammit.
