Beginner's Model Building Construction BASICS
SchizophrenicMC replied to MechTech's topic in The Workshop!
I always set my compressor pressure with the trigger held down, so it's set to actual pressure. The regulator on the compressor is designed to set the pressure around 5psi higher than the flow setting, so the compressor isn't working all the time. It lets the compressor catch up, and the tank will be able to give you even pressure for several seconds before it drops below the threshold and turns the compressor back on. Also your diagnostic theory is all off. If you had a leak, it would cause a pressure drop across the range. It only happens when you open the air valve in the brush, which is all the way at the very end of the hose. So you can easily diagnose that leaks aren't your culprit, even without knowing the regulator logic. -

Saw this at the local HobbyTown. Could not afford ridiculous markup.

Spray cans, especially full size cans, are a bit too aggressive and lay paint a bit too thick for modeling use. It's a lot easier to control paint from an airbrush.

I'm not gonna pretend I don't enjoy fanservice, but that was half panties and half lamebrain early-00s animation tropes. If you're going to make softcore porn, you need to at least follow To Love Ru's example. Anyway, I seem to recall Boeing losing every fighter plane competition. They pretty much only seem to win cargo/tanker/spacerocket contracts. Which is fine and good, because those are Boeing's areas of expertise. -
Funny enough, one of the guys on the forum is called S12Prelude, after the two cars he rocks.

Nissan 200SX. Just picked up my second. Figured I'd use it to the community's advantage.

I've noticed, it's the spoiled kids who don't get an allowance anymore who do stuff like this. A lot of the local guys I know with half-cocked, stupid-loud setups like that, were spoiled as kids. None of the spoiled kids have anything remotely reasonable. Hipster millennials. -

If by "most insane" you mean "most half-assed" yes. I think that car has changed owners like 4 times since that video. -

I'm neither for nor against CGI. It's possible to do it well, and it's possible to do it poorly. Evolve demonstrates this perfectly. Some of the shorts are great, and others are ridiculous (Strike). Macross Zero and Frontier made great use of CGI, but Aldnoah Zero's CGI doesn't fit nearly as well with the 2D animation. When you're drawing each portion of each frame manually, it's easier to keep things like lighting, shading, and perspective consistent. Similarly, when you're animating the whole thing in CGI, it's easier to keep all of that consistent. When you mix the two, it's all too easy to introduce distracting inconsistencies. And you get weird, jarring animations where the 2D isn't animated as deforming under the force of a 3D object, which is animated as bouncing off because it's cheaper. It takes a concerted effort and plenty of experience (plus a pretty good budget) to make it look good. As long as the effort is paid, you can get great results, but that's heavily dependent upon studio and budget.- 3717 replies

It both is and is not the successor to the 8-series. Depending on who you ask at BMW, you get different responses. Somebody should put 815i badges on their i8 just to confuse people. Shoulda had popup headlights though Speaking of popups, I couldn't help myself yesterday. Picked this up: -
Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
SchizophrenicMC replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Even up until now, Gundam has shied away from CGI, unlike basically the rest of the mecha genre, and anime as a whole. Opting for hand-drawn digital cel has kept the art cleaner, if more expensive. It's a lot easier to make something look like it fits in a 2D setting if that thing is, itself, drawn in 2D. It's pretty hard to put cheaper CGI into a 2D shot and keep it looking like it fits. It falls into uncanny valley pretty easily. In Macross, we've had over a decade to get used to this, and the studios have gotten really good at mixing CGI and cel. But the same can't be said of Gundam, or its fans who aren't used to the two mixing. Plus G Saviour was a thing, proving once more that CGI and Gundam don't mix very well.- 3717 replies

My garage is full to the brim with my dad's stuff, and it's been that way for 10 years. I paint in my room.

My personal setup involves test clips screwed to bits of extra sprue because I'm too cheap to spend $1 on a pack of skewers. And then I jam them into a foam packing block from something I bought years ago. It works, though Any reason it had to be done on the runners? I am literally $12 into my clips-on-sticks setup.

I'm just now beginning to notice those. You painted it on the runners, yeah Hik? That'd cause that. I'm more partial to the much slower method of dry-fitting a kit then pulling it apart and spraying each part individually. Lets me address small imperfections and get a more even effect. Also makes it easier to mask off sections for different colors. That Tallgeese still isn't bad, but looking closely enough reveals some of the disadvantages of a given technique, just like looking closely at a kit assembled with a different technique would reveal the disadvantages of that one. The takeaway here is, there's always room to improve and combine techniques for an even better finish.

It looks good, Hikuro. The only flaw I can see is that blob on the top of the chest, but I'm sure there's a story behind it. All in all, you should be proud. That's a good first paintjob. Keep 'em coming man.
