  1. Did everyone see the pics of it that Sketchley took in Osaka? http://www.macrossworld.com/4128/11-vf-25-valkyrie-exhibit-in-osaka/ (scroll down a bit)
  2. Also, the original Yamato theatrical features are getting BD treatment this year but, as is the norm for Bandais older anime, will not feature English subtitles from the looks of things. http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?__mk_ja_JP=カタカナ&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=宇宙戦艦ヤマト+++%5BBlu-ray%5D
  3. Wow, thats awesome news! I missed this the first time around, thinking I could pick one up later on (shops in Akiba had piles of them at the time) . Suddenly they became as rare as hens teeth and were double the price even when damaged. I'll be preordering this baby for sure! Damn 2013 is already looking expensive....
  4. Theres going to be a postcard set of new Yuki illustrations at the opening of Chapter 4 on Jan 12. Am digging the sample one so far. Heres hoping they do one for Yamamoto next!

Dont expect any news at the normal time this week due to the New Year break. For example, Famitsu has only posted 1 news story in the last 3 days. This happens every year.
  7. Tim Eldred and co. have just started a new podcast so if you need something to listen to in the car or while slacking off at work, check it out! http://www.thenightcrew.org/podcast/yamatocast-episode-zero/
  8. Great write-up Sketch! Thanks for taking the time and effort to put that together! Glad you guys in Osaka finally got to experience the 1:1 25. The main difference to the Tokyo exhibit (other than those pointed out by Gubaba) seems to be the layout of the event since in Tokyo 80% of the exhibit was positioned before getting to the VF-25, which was the climax of the whole thing. Again tho, thanks for the writeup! PS: Some of those large banners look somewhat familiar - I think they have only ever been used in Osaka exhibits ;-) http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7017/6410374205_f81a6b8ec9_z.jpg
  9. Interesting - the anecdote I heard was from a friend with an Australian PS3...thanks for the clarification.
  10. Was a poorly paced mess with a lack of focus, uninspied designs, and neither the thrill of the old OVAs or the heart and humour of the tv series imo.
  11. Its the New Kyoto arc OVA which was a 15th anniversary production. Saw the first part at the cinema and was so disappointed with it that I never bothered watching the 2nd half. http://www.siliconer...oto-arc-remake/
  12. Upcoming series. Ridiculous name, but has some big names attached to it and some gorgeous looking animation (trailer needs more robots tho !) http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-12-30/gargantia-on-the-verdurous-planet-1st-full-promo-subtitled-in-english

Well put. As far as I know, Kawamori's role is mainly supervisory. Which isnt surprising since I'm sure he is busy with the second season of AKB0048 right about now.

Just a minor note - this was Tenjin-san's personal opinion. It does not reflect any sort of official stance or policy. Having said that... Agreed. He had minimal involvement in the PSP games which werent original/adding anything new to the Macross universe anyway. With M30 having an original valk and an original story, I daresay he is a little more picky over what makes it in and what doesnt. As noted earlier on in this thread, PS3 games are 99.99% region free. No mod-chips or conversions required. So all you need is one of those cheap slim PS3s and the game and you are good to go.
  15. Amazon lists both Zero and the budokan concert as being region A only. http://www.amazon.co.jp/マクロス-ゼロ-Blu-ray-Disc-BOX/dp/B0017T3PX2/ref=br_lf_m_3077076436_1_13_img?ie=UTF8&m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&s=dvd&pf_rd_p=118273769&pf_rd_s=center-7&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=3077076436&pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_r=0GP00N2CBFEC0C86VKJA http://www.amazon.co.jp/マクロスF-フロンティア-ギャラクシーツアー-FINALin-Blu-ray/dp/B002L6C5SQ/ref=br_lf_m_3077076436_1_6_ttl?ie=UTF8&m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&s=dvd&pf_rd_p=118273769&pf_rd_s=center-7&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=3077076436&pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_r=0GP00N2CBFEC0C86VKJA I've heard anecdotally that the budokan disc doesn't work in region B players. Admittedly, I can't test this out myself, but from experience Amazons listings are usually accurate. Also, not all companies list their regions-Universal in particular - and while not entirely relevant approx 70% of region B anime I've come across IS region locked, so I presume that a similar percentage stands for other regions as well. As for subs...there's plenty more reasons for eng subs not being on Macross discs than plain economics, as we all know only too well. But hey if Bandai Visuals other releases are anything to go by, maybe new Macross releases will contain some sort of subs (ie, similar to Yamato 2199 having subs while the original series remaster on BD doesn't). We can always hope I guess.
  16. Is there an actual region free policy? If so, it's the first I've heard of it. While many of their recent BDs have been region free, Macross Zero, for example, was not. The thing is, since so many importers are from the US and US and JPN are the same region, many people presume they everything is region fe when this isn't necessarily the case.
  17. While this would be nice, unfortunately it isn't going to happen. The number of people willing to pay Japanese prices is minuscule and on top of that it could well be region locked much like the vast majority of Japanese BDs are meaning that there's no support for anyone outside of Japan or the US who imports, only to find they've just thrown 200 dollars or so away.

Not that much news this week due to the approach of the New Years break, however there is some basic sub quest info, a handful of new screenshots, and introduction to 2 new characters mixed in among the older information here: http://www.4gamer.ne...59/20121221029/ (had a good chuckle over the fact that newcomer Mei Lilong is affiliated with the Hunter Guild from... Breetai City! Hehehe)
  19. Will be interested to hear what you think of it. Really enjoyed it back when I caught it at the cinema.
  20. So, I was listening to the latest episode of Gundamn@mahq recently and came across some interesting, if depressing news. Apparently preorder numbers for the new English version of Gundam the Origin have barely passed 4000 units. In other words, without support, the future of this new, re-translated, deluxe edition is in jeopardy before volume 1 has even been released. It's one of only a handful of mecha manga that actually does mecha right imo (Macross the First being another one), so if you have even a passing interest in Gundam or mecha, volumes 1 and 2 are only $18 each for preorder over at Amazon. Even though I have the Japanese versions, I know Ill be picking these up if only to support it. Volume 1 preorder. Volume 2 preorder.

Its still close to 2 months out from launch yet - Theyve probably yet to get into most of the more interesting reveal (I have my hunches as to what at least one of these will be, based on certain screenshots that have been revealed so far ;-) Given the customizeable nature of the Valk system and the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink nature of the game, I dont see any reason why the VF-4 would be ommitted, let alone grounds for such speculation.
  22. Yep it sure was. Even if I was sick for the second one, lol. (Just in case anyone missed this way back: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=35968&hl=macrossmass&fromsearch=1 ) Too bad it was reportedly the final Macross Frontier concert Yoko Kanno will be involved in. Also, the Bluray has been discounted by 2300yen over at Amazon JPN, so grab em at a relatively more affordable price while you can! http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%9E%E3%82%AF%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B9F-%E8%B6%85%E6%99%82%E7%A9%BA%E3%82%B9%E3%83%BC%E3%83%91%E3%83%BC%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%96-cosmic-%E3%82%B3%E3%82%BA%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E5%A8%98-Blu-ray/dp/B005MT737C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1356434703&sr=8-3
  23. No, they slide up from the bottom. Note the lip on the tab where my thumb is.
  24. So we finally have a teaser trailer of sorts. http://www.animenews...-promo-streamed Ship designs are nicely detailed, although I still say the head looks like a cross between Tiger & Bunny and Aquarion ...
