Space Pirate Captain Harlock" CG Movie, Autumn 2013
Tochiro replied to chowyunskinny's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wait... isnt that just the background from the official website? Actually, Australia gets more anime on the big screen than pretty much any place other than Japan imo. Between the Reel Anime Showcase events, the Japan Film Festival, and events like this , theres a greater chance of Harlock popping up at a festival or limited screening than almost any other country outside of Japan.- 182 replies

It hasn't been publicly announced for Niconico yet. It will air at 20:00 on Wed, April 10th.
-
There will be another Macross 'Net Meeting' talkshow held on Niconico next Wednesday (April 10). The last one of these they did was just before the Musicalture. Guests will include May'n, Hidetaka Tenjin, and Shion tsuchiya (from The Musicalture). The will be shootin' the breeze on a couple of topics, including mecha, characters, music, and the all important question - what will the first song performed at Macross Crossover Live 30 be?

Love Live Alive sneak peak in Australia
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Neither I nor the article said they were showing the whole thing. A sneak peak is usually just that - a few snippets of footage.- 32 replies

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2013-04-02/makoto-shinkai-hosts-the-garden-of-words-world-premiere-in-australia 'Additionally, the festival will screen a documentary about the Robotech franchise titled Carl Macek's Robotech Universe. The documentary will include cast and crew interviews, as well as pictures and anecdotes from the creation of the series and a sneak peak at the 2013 film Robotech Love Live Alive.' (I find this hilarious since the original LLA is alreasy legally available on DVD in Australia as part of the Mospeada DVD box set.)

Welcome back! I can't answer all of them since I have yet to finish the game (am at the 36 hour mark but am taking my time and 'life' is probably going to prevent me from finishing the game until Golden Week. But I'll answer what I can and let others who have finished the game tackle the rest. Maximum of two. Some missions (especially earlier on) will limit you to one or none at all. Some missions will make certain wingmen/partners compulsory due to story reasons. In most you can pick whoever you want, as long as you have come across and recruited the character in the story ('recruiting' happens automatically). Therefore, your choices are limited in the beginning and gradually you get more and more pilots. Oh and Basara can only be used with the Fire Valk (naturally). Different pilots have different special attacks and will say different lines. Three control types - A, B and C. A-type is identical to PSP, B-type is 'third person shooter' and C-type is original Macross 30 control scheme. See Zoroastres excellent guide/translation for details. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6r3Sy1LnkpxSGJxOUR4VFVac0k/edit Its an action game with RPG elements. It does not play, control-wise, like an RPG. You can pause the game to use a healing item or temporary stat-altering item. You can command your wingmen to attack, use special attacks, etc, by bringing up a menu with the SELECT button. Note that this selection happens in real time, the game does not pause. No. The ONLY DLC is a few skins that first pressing/limited editions have. There is no online play and no further free/paid DLC announced at this time. IMO BGM is fairly typical mid-class jrpg BGM. Not great, not terrible. The two original songs from Miss Macross 30 winner Haruka Chisuga are pretty good imo and have been released as a single. No, although there may be some loadouts that are original, such as double strike packs for the VF-1S. There are also original coloured versions for many of the characters. Theres a NG+ where you can select the pilot you use, so if you are a Macross fan I'd say replay value is fairly high. Parts and plans need to be collected/found to build a mech. Once built, the customization/levelling works basically the same as the PSP games. Some valks have several pre-set colouring configurations but there is no custom colour option. Check out the guide I mentioned above. It is fairly comprehensive (thanks to all of Zoroastres hard work!) and should answer most of your questions.

Ah, the gaming hell that is Oz. I remember how difficult it was to get import games there back in the PS1 days... Having said that, Oz doesnt miss out on many game releases at all these days - with the PS3 its far easier to get games in Japanese than ever before - Asuras Wrath, Yakuza 3 & 4, any RPG released by NIS... theres a not inconsiderable list of games with Japanese left in them in Australian releases. Now, if you were talking about imports, then I see where you are coming from. While theres still 1 or 2 import shops left in Sydneys Chinatown, they charge 100% markup or more. AND they dont usually get new stuff. Online is the only way imo, so yeah, Grahame definately knows what he is talking about! CD Japan or Amazon Japan are are my recommendations. Game-wise, there have actually been over 40 Macross games over the past 30 years or so. And I agree that the most recent, Macross 30, is a great one to get. Even if you arent used to playing games in Japanese, dont let the plot/explanation opening put you off because the game is a lot of fun to play. Just so you know what you are getting... Macross 30 trailer. Macross 30 gameplay. There are three Macross games on the PSP, and I'd recommend the second one - Macross Ultimate Frontier. It's much more polished than Macross Ace Frontier and doesnt have the school mode that Macross Tiangle Frontier has (very Japanese text heavy). Also, we just discussed some impressions of Macross 30 in the latest Macross SpeakerPODcast (sig↓). Anyways, welcome to the boards! Am looking forward to hearing all about your upcoming Macross gaming experiences!

What cinema chain did you see it at? We got trailers for Captain Harlock at Wald9 :-) I thought the movie looked good although I wouldnt call it gorgeous. The CG wasnt blended as well as it could have been but then again it didnt need to be. It looked pretty much what I expected a modern version of DBZ to look like. The fact that Masako Nozawa can still do Gokus voice so well at the age of 76 completely blows my mind though. Surely all that screaming and yelling cant be good for her health... And Bills was just soooo much more fun than expected. Yamadera really hit it out of the park when it came to voicing him too. Dont forget though, the most powerful power-up in all of DBZ is now a fe....oops, ill stop there No foreign release has been announced yet although the movies FB page says it will announce foreign release details when there are any. While I cant say I personally approve of it, given the franchises huge following in the US I'd say its a fairly certain bet that they'll dub it. Also, theres a Kotaku review up for anyone who is interested: http://kotaku.com/the-new-dragon-ball-z-movie-isnt-deep-or-profound-but-464819108

Just came out of the cinema. The new DBZ was a bunch of fun and fan service (in a good way). And Bills could well be one of my new favorite characters. He has explosive alarm clocks :-D

Macross Frontier Complete Soundtrack Release?
Tochiro replied to JetJockey's topic in Movies and TV Series
As someone who has been buying physical Japanese CDs since around 1991 or 92, as a general rule the prices of Japanese, japan-only CDs never drops. The only way to get them cheaper is to buy 2nd hand (which many ppl do). Even when boxsets/collections are released, they are hundreds of dollars at release or else soon end up being so on the 2nd hand market (ie, the Cowboy Bebop and GitS:SAC ones), meaning that box sets are usually more of a collectors item than an affordable alternative and have a limited print run to match. TL:DR, I recommend the individual albums which are all still available at their original recommended retail price.- 13 replies
