    Some hints dropped by Kawamori during today's panel. (Going from memory and via my phone on-site): -The Valkyrie in the key visual is indeed influenced by the Draken. Recent real life plane designs tend to look similar due to stealth tech/designs elements. Therefore a fight between two Valkyries based on modern stealth planes wouldn't be that interesting. Similarly, they would be difficult to differentiate between in animation/dogfights. Kawamori liked the Draken when he was growing up, so he drew upon it for inspiration. Similarly, he referred to it as a Valkyrie so it does actually transform. -The white and blue valk is a logical progression on Valkyries seen to date. The 'Draken' valk is an all original transformation and this posed more of a challenge. -Different thruster colors - in-universe the Valkyries engine are made by different companies. The coloring also makes them easier to distinguish visually. -The relatively bright coloring of the white and blue valk is also an attempt to go against the visual trend of stealth fighters. -The Delta logo - it mainly represents the three main pillars of Macross. But the fact that the sides don't join indicates that the triangle is not a predetermined outcome. Some elements may or may not come together to necessarily form the triangle as expected. -The planet in the background of the logo is a hint regarding the setting. Details to be revealed on Oct 29. -Kawamori wanted to revisit valk vs valk combat in a TV series since he felt that this was something that hasn't been done in a TV iteration of Macross for a long time. -Major details including characters and setting will happen during the live stream on Oct 29. The winner of the idol contest will also be present.

    From ANN : Macross Modelers, a new brand that encompasses the different plastic model lines for the franchise, is also launching. The participating companies are Wave, TOMYTEC, Hasegawa, Bandai, and Max Factory. The catch copy of the brand is, "Kyōtō Futatabi" (Fight together once more). The websiteindicates that there will be plastic models for the new anime. Kawamori will appear at a Macrossplastic model discussion event at the All Japan Model & Hobby Show on Saturday, and the event will provide more information on the new brand.

    Ok, after that podcast discussion on the topic, last weekend I confirmed with Kawamori himself that pre- Macross Plus Valkyries did indeed have passive stealth. The tech had been around since pre-Space War 1 (as is a plot point in Macross the First), however didn't make into the VF-1 due to time limitations. It was, however, in later valks until active stealth became the hot new tech in 2040 around the time of Macross Plus. Kyle​ and Jason​, I hope you guys are happy now! The things I do....grumble grumble ... ;-)

    Yup, and both Gubaba and I were in the same room as Kawamori when he said it. Macross 2 has the same place in Macross as every other entry in the IP. I even spoke directly with Kawamori again last weekend. Twice. No need for speculation or speculative fiction here. Macross World is a place where we respect the facts and have 30+ years of official settings materials to utilize. It isnt a Paladium RPG site. Those who prefer making up their own stories and fanfiction might be better served by trying a Paladium forum, in fact.

    Like several others here, I own both the Madman DVDs and the Japanese Bluray boxset and can confirm that the Blurays look remarkably clearer. You can almost differentiate the cells on the more detailed episodes. It's not as good a remaster as, say, the Orguss Blurays, but those obviously came from much much better preserved source material. Oh and I am watching on a very specifically tuned TV which has individually tweaked settings for BD, gaming, DVD, broadcast etc. I watched both formats on said TV multiple times as well. Now, whether or not one thinks that the upgrade is worth it to them, especially at Japanese media prices, that's a personal judgement call. In terms of image quality however, there is an undeniable improvement. For me it was worth it plus I enjoy supporting the franchise.
