  1. Theres certainly a lot more promotion for the 1:1 Valk happening than I expected. I spotted the following poster in Akihabara yesterday - there was also a video commercial for the event playing.
  2. 2nd trailer has gone up. This is more what I was expecting really...^^; http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tPBA_sMYCNU
  3. This will make a nice counterpart to my overpriced Japanese box set! http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-04-02/discotek-announces-dvd-release-of-captain-harlock-tv-series
  4. Starblazers.com has just posted a translation of their Hidetaka Tenjn interview that I was fortunate enough to be a part of. This was my motivation to start putting together a Macross only interview of my own but in the meantime there's both Valkyries and Space Battleships aplenty to be found here: http://www.starblazers.com/html.php?page_id=683
  5. With all due respect to your friend, that is utter rubbish. HK English subs for anime are often based on the Chinese translation of the Japanese and end up quite mangled/leave the characters Chinese names in the subs, etc. The ones that are good usually turn out to be directly ripped from fansubs. Live action films are another issue as these are usually legit (Eng. subs on HK films is a strange hangover from Hong Kongs colony days) and done by people who seem to have a better grasp of English than the pirate groups releasing the majority of anime over there do. Eng. subs on Japanese releases tend to come from one of two sources - (1)subs from a previous US/foreign release of the property or (2)done from scratch for the show - this is increasingly the case and I have yet to come across a bad example. From the Patlabor movies to Haruhi, From Gundam Unicorn to Ozuma, legit Japanese releases with English subs tend to be of fairly high quality. In the case of Y2199, the subs were done by Sam Pinansky who was recently interviewed on the ANN Cast: http://www.animenews...cast/2012-03-09 The secret project he says he cannot talk about on air is, in fact, Y2199. First 2 eps have been subbed with 3-6 awaiting the end of production before they can be subbed as well for release in June. Interesting question! I know some details but not much in the way of background information. I even passed your question on to Tim Eldred over at Starblazers.com, who mentioned that Matsumoto's involvement was largely a mystery. What I can confirm is that Matsumoto was involved in two Godzilla projects in the past. (1) Godzilla figure - Matsumoto designed a figure based on the 1954 version for Zero Goods http://www.uchusen.c...-goz-ucred.html http://www.zerogoods...09_godzila.html Zero Goods does a bunch of merchandising with Matsumoto, most aimed at high-end collectors with prices to match. http://www.zerogoodsuniverse.com/ (2) Matsumoto also designed a poster for the 1980 rerelease of the 1964 film Mothra vs Godzilla. (from Jpn Wiki). This is as far as his work on the franchise goes, afaik. Hope this helps!
  6. JPN BD have Eng subs and are the same region as the US so no need to wait! Having said that, I doubt there will be an actual physical release in the US. Streming could be a possibility though.
  7. Ugh - as I thought...just confirmed as an April fools joke ^^; But hey, if enough people buy the blurays, who knows what might happen!
  8. So the games tentative title is 'Macross SP Cross Deculture' and it's currently defined as a 'social shooting' game. Teaser site can be found here: http://www.bndena.co.jp/macross/
  9. Maybe look for 2nd hand sellers who are willing to ship overseas? Most stores have the game at approx. US$25-$30 2nd hand in Japan, although there does seem to have been a boom in 2nd hand sales since the DLC came out last week (due to the IdolMaster content, most likely).
  10. A proper trailer has finally been posted of Kids on the Slope - the new Watanabe/Kanno collaboration on Noitamina.
  11. Its a bit of a choppy rip, but better than nothing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QreLPNsd1zw The question now is whether or not this image is an April Fools...
  12. At the moment it only lists the scheduled draw for fanclub members but I'm sure there will be public ticket sales after that.
  13. First 10 minutes of Yamato 2199 have been posted as a teaser of sorts :-) http://www.b-ch.com/...eat_yamato2199/ EDIT: Damn it, apparently its region blocked....sorry guys...
  14. MACROSS: THE MUSICULTURE - teaser website is now live! http://macross-musicalture.com/
  15. Not up to date with current gaming trends eh? remind me to tell you about GREE some time. Preferably when theres a LOT of alcohol involved (the fact that those bastards now have the biggest booth at TGS...grrrr...RAGE!). But anyways, as has been said by everyone else, Mobage is a mobile phone/smartphone platform. As such, I'd expect this to work with most smartphones. It will most likely be a freemium model of play which is just damn annoying. That single image is rather interesting - given that the demographic for these games skews a little younger (not kids, but definately a generation not so fixated on owning physical media as fans of the original Macross no doubt are) I would have expected them to be focusing on Macross Frontier content at this stage. Oh well, either way we will see later on this year I suppose.
  16. Not to sound like a broken record but - Yamato 2199. Some shots are identical to the original but a lot prettier now. Similarly some lines are the same (Captain Okita's first line for instance ;-) ). The thing they have done right so far is that they arent making the whole thing the same. its a merge of remake and new. Think Macross The First in animated form and you have the basic idea. In fact, I'd say the remake should be an animated version of MTF, period. I think that would please pretty much everyone. Unfortunately, since Mikimoto has said he doesnt know whether the manga will go past episode 27 at this point, a direct anime adaptation could potentially miss those last 9 episodes that really give the original series much of its uniqueness and identity.
  17. It's certainly a trend and, according to Bandai, will be more common in the future. Having said that, the subtitles tend to be on new or relatively newer shows, especially those with no overseas licensing issues (even if they are only potential ones). As a good example - the upcoming Yamato series 1 BD remaster will be raw whereas Yamato 2199 will have subs. See above :-) My wallet already hates this new trend. Sorry to get off topic!
  18. Sigh... as of yet no PS3 game, no Vita game, but....a social game. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2012-03-27/namco-bandai/dena-venture-to-release-macross-social-game I'm sad because I know I'll force myself to play it ^^;
  19. Oooh, really? That'ts interesting since there havent been any events for August officially announced....yet. Having said that, Mari travels to Japan EVERY AUGUST for the one show a year (2 concerts in the one day usually) she does for Japanese fans. It's more than possible you just happened to plan the event the one month she is most likely to be away from the US.
  20. Hey there everyone! I'm planning an in-depth interview with Macross (and Yamato and all things mecha) artist extraordinaire Hidetaka Tenjin and would love to hear any questions that anyone might have for him. I originally posed this over in the Movies/TV forum, so please drop by and give it a look. Thanks! http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=36539&hl=hidetaka&fromsearch=1

  22. Well, since (apart from those of you good enough to post some questions) activity in this thread has been a lot quieter than I expected, I'm going to keep it going for another two weeks. I'll post links to it over in the Toys and models forums as well to see if I can't drum up a little more interest. In the meantime, if any further questions come to mind, dont forget to post em here!
  23. Some of the Gaijin Butai are thinking of doing a trip down to Osaka when the full, ungimped gerwalk is on display. Dates are unknown as of yet, but if theres anyone in the area that wants to come along feel free to drop me a line. As far as the Tokyo (slightly) gimped valk is concerned, I just got me some tickets :-) Macross fanclub membership has its privillages :-)
  24. I finally got around to watching eps 1 and 2. Overall I'm enjoying it - animation quality isnt quite as good as Herlock Endless Odessey, but definately better that Cosmo Warrior Zero/Gun Frontier. I must admit tho, being a Wow-wow anniversary project I was hoping it might be a little less typically matsumoto in story structure. So far its been utterly predictable. I like a well worn pair of slippers as much as the next guy but this time I was hoping for something newer.
  25. To echo what has already been expressed by others - great job on getting that information out! Great to see that most people who wanted a copy of the LE seem to have been able to preorder it! Yes, there are standard and limited editions. 7 was originally announced as the next series that will get a BD release after the original series so i was expecting it to drop by the end of the year. Having said that, not that DYRL is coming out, who knows WHAT the release schedule is looking like. Mmmm....dead whores...thats sexy!
