Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
I get the option too and thought it was common knowledge, sorry. Ok, lets get a list going here. So far it appears that the right click to save function is available in Chrome, but not Firefox or IE. EXO, what browser are you using? Given more time I can set up an itunes download link, but it be a while before I have time to get around to it sorry.- 1147 replies

Actually, the limited edition was released already on DVD and bluray but was only available at cinemas and sold out at most locations in the first weekend. As for the normal version, yep you have the release date correct o(^▽^)o

The latest issue of Newtype Ace hit bookstores today. It contains another 'Document of Macross' booklet - this time its the 'Birth of Macross' and seems to have mostly a lot of the stuff that was shown at the MACROSS: THE DESIGN exhibition and Shibuya Parco. As for Newtype Ace itself, theres a new Playback in Divas (Sheryl), small reports on the anniversary events from Golden Week (with pics of Kawamori and Tenjin), a double page spread on the DYRL BD box (some of the remastered colour looks considerably different), news on latest merch and, most importantly, the return of Macross The First in a BIG way - 30 pages of content this time around!!!! (compared the the anemic 8 pages we got last issue).

Kawamori's pet AKB project-first footage!
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
No love for magical girl wands that double as tazers to beat down riot cops?!?!?! ..... .............your loss :-D -
Nice writeup! You know, I think the impact of the Gundam is pretty drastically reduced due to it being enclosed on two sides by buildings that are taller than it. I thought it LOOKED a lot bigger the way it was set up previously with its back to the bay. It also used to be slightly more elevated AND was set up so that people could walk in between its legs. The new set up is, in comparison, a bit meh. Gundam Front was a lot of fun imo, if a bit restricted space-wise. Maybe I've been spolit by the 2-day 'Feel G' exhibition that had a few years back, but after having an entire HALL filled with Gundam memorabillia and displays, G Front seemed a little lacking. The dome theatre was DAMN cool though! I was really impressed by the all-new voice work and sense of scale they achieved with the new CG. It's always nice when Bandai does little things like that. There was also the Ring of G short at the Feel G exhibit and the footage done for Gundam The Ride in which you were in a life pod being escorted out of the battle of A baoa Qu by a pair of GMs (who, typically, didnt last all that long ^^. Also, it might be worth mentioning that several model cases had a big COMING SOON label on them. Similarly, the event booklet was labelled as issue 0, with issue 1 due later in summer, so I wouldnt be surprised if they add to the exhibition periodically to attract repeat visitations.

Oh, sorry, I dIdn't realise that that was what your question was suggesting....because honestly its more likely that lemon glazed donuts will start falling from the sky when I have my afternoon coffee break today. Ugh, that sounded condescending didnt it? ^^; Didnt mean it to. but i really could go for a donut right about now. Basically when theres bad blood on a company level in Japan theres pretty much zero chance of kissing and making up. The court battle that lasted for 20 years wasnt just between Matsumoto and Nishizaki - it ended up being a part of their respective legacies. Now granted, Nishizaki's is an infamous recluse and seldom agrees to interviews - he leaves that to those at Enagio - so take this with a grain of salt, but you may have noticed that Matsumoto's name is seldom mentioned (if at all) in any official documentation regarding 2199. Izubuchi and Nobuteru have talked about his influence on how they retooled the remake but notice that they never talk about anything Matsumoto did outside of the context of the original series. Basically there was never any chance that Matsumoto would be involved in this remake although personally, despite being a huge Matsumoto fan, I like the new look of the characters and definately think that the redesign will help them appeal more to new/younger potential fans.

Kawamori's pet AKB project-first footage!
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, I honestly didnt expect you of all people to enjoy it.... ^^; Go back and give the first ep a try though if you are willing. I cant speak for ep 2 since i have yet to see it. And pffffffffft, spelling is bad for your health. I avoid it. Along wih things like remembering ppls names, etc. :-p -
Actually, the standalone element works in their favour when it comes to gaining a wider viewership. The problem is that they tend not to be escapist enough for normal folks and didnt pander enough to specific demographics to be a huge hit with the otaku crowd. Its similar to the reason that shows like BSG or game of thrones or walking dead turn up to Japan months or years late and even then are strictly cable or rental only - most adults are looking for brief escapism and dont want to deal with realistic characters or plots in their entertainment. This is why japanese dramas have such awful acting by Western standards - the actors tend to yell, over-emote, etc, because the viewer could never act that way in real life with all its strictly controlled social interactions/relationships. As such is a form of escapism that often comes off as corny to those who are more used to relatively 'realistic' acting in a lot of Western shows and is a turnoff (ie, look at how few japanese movies.tv shows get released outside of Japan these days).So...to vaguely get my original point back on track, adult anime characters are less useful for escapism than blonde ninjas or stretchy pirates, etc. EDIT: I also finally managed to track down some japanese fans of some of the above shows after many years in Japan. The trick was to look for Yoko Kanno fans ;-)

Kawamori's pet AKB project-first footage!
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ok, so the first ep is out and therefore I think this threat needs to be bumped... ....*BUMP!* Having watched it I have to say that the first 10 mins are uterly hilariously awesome. After that the show becomes more predictable. Animation-quality-wise its pretty good although I feel it shows, once again, the studio style that Satellite has developed (began with Frontier and was further consolidated with Aquarion Evol - much like its easy to pick Madhouse and IG shows by their style, I feel that its fairly easy to pick Satellite ones now too). From the opening shot of space to the spherical, Yamato-influenced radar on the AKB0048 phoenix ship bridge, theres a LOT of Frontier influence here. Heck, the planet that the main 3 characters are on is even called 'Rankastar', lol! Oh and to anyone watching the fansubbed version (lets be honest here, this thing has about as much chance as Frontier of coming out in English speaing territories), be warned that the subs are pretty attrocious. Apart from the typical translation errors theres also lines added or changed to try to make it sound more adult. Its almost like they were trying to do some 'fifteening' on it for some reason. -
I visited the rebuild 1:1 Gundam at Odaiba on the weekend and thought I'd post a few pics. Some are from Gundam Front - a display on the 7th floor that includes a 360 degree dome theatre that plays (among other scenes) some pretty awesome new CG versions of battles from Chars Counterattack and Gundam Unicorn.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Tochiro replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Just watched ep1 of AKB0048 and egads the first 10mins is hilarious. Not to mention the fact that the planet they are on is called 'Rankastar' lol! -
Matsumoto lost the rights to the franchise. Those went to Nishizaki and, after his passing, his estate (son).

Unfortunately, Plus was a flop in Japan (along with Escaflowne and Cowboy Bebop), hence the lack of marketing and merch. Shows with adult characters just generally don't do well when, as a form of escapism, the viewers want to revel in the nostalgic halcyon days of high school. As for 3D- you didn't watch GitS SAC SSS 3D then I take it? f^_^ And as for Macross in 3D- if the 3D bandwagon had kept rolling on the way it was back when Avatar came out, I wouldn't have been surprised if something had been reissued in 3D by now.
-
We are lucky that the number of episodes of the original Yamato was reduced so he had to cut Harlock out. If Harlock had been in the original Yamato then matsumoto would have lost the rights to Harlock as well and we might not have had any more Harlock!

Macross Dynamite 7, 15th Anniversary Campaign Announced
Tochiro replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
This I know, but the sign definitely said either 15th or 20th. They may be fudging the numbers to piggy back on the 30th hype train. Will confirm during the week. EDIT: Mystery solved! These events are for the 15th Anniversary of Macross 7 Dynamite!!! Sorry for the confusion. Mods, could you please correct the thread title accordingly.
