The Macross Quarter. DX Chogokin
westfall replied to 505thAirborne's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
The guy that thought of using that rubbery plastic to make these parts more kid-friendly-non-hazard, should be shot. Not only is the detail less crisp and the paint job in these parts sloppy, it always seems to bend out of shape. And to use it in a figure that isn't really a toy but supposedly an high(er)-end product is a bit pointless. No way is any kid that would even consider to put this in his mouth even gonna come close to this thing. And IMO, anyone old enough to handle this stuff that end with a turret in his esofagus (?), deserves to choke. So, once again, the safety plastic is pointless. Furious rant over. -
Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3

I've only built the VF-25F. I didn't do any extensive painting, i only painted small details in certain parts that were supposed to be a different color, weathering, pannel linning and i tinted the canopy, sensors and visor. Must find the time to build the rest of the Skull squadron. -

As far as i remember, the cockpit of Brera's VF-27 wasn't clear like the VF-25's. So the most correct one to use is probably the solid red-maroon one. I can't actually recall any scene where it had a clear canopy. I'll have to rewatch the series... what a sacrifice that will be. -

Mechinium, that is one sweet Enterprise. -
Ahh!!! Saving money... i hadn't thought of that... tell me more about this "saving" thing, how does it work?... OK, sorry 'bout that. Unfortunately, right now i barely have enough to keep my head above water, let alone save. But better days are coming. Actually a Macross Live Action would be awesome if it didn't suffer from the same think most adaptations do, a thing called Hollywoodification, in wich the story has to be "accessible" (i.e. dumb) to a wide audience, the main characters have to be butch US Marine-like and there have to be lots of explosions (OK, that one isn't that bad). If they don't do that, it would be great, if they do, it will be like "Dragon Ball: Evolution"...i mean, crap. Also, GITS as Live Action, yes. Lucy Liu as Kusanagi, NOOOOOO. I love Lucy but she's not Motoko, not one bit. And both movies had to be directed by Bay... NOT. LOL. You know who would be great to direct TF 3? The guy that directs the driving movies on "Top Gear". That guy knows how to make a car look gorgeous. OK, movie reviews over, back to topic...

Well, to be honest i have an original G1 Optimus and the MP Optimus (Hasbro version without trailer). Does that help? The movie designs just apeal to me, they seem more alive, more agile... but i still love G1 type of design. And come on, Optimus Prime with Peter Cullen voicing him... it's just awesome. The best way to do it would be to buy both the SDF-1 AND Optimus... That's a plan... All i need now is 1000$US. LOL
-
Yeah, I'm one of those that actually loves Bayformer TFs, especialy Optimus.(Did you not notice my avatar?) And if i have to choose something in this price range, Optimus will beat SDF-1. Not by much but it will. But thats me.

This is going to be a thing of beauty. Problem is there's Bandai's Alto w/ EX-Gear , the 1/72 VF-27 and the DX Macross Quarter on their way. That will bankrupt me. Period. Then, in adition to this beast, both in size and in price tag, there is another beast coming from Sideshow Collectibles standing at 20+ inches, the awesome looking movie acurate Optimus Prime. With both of them having an expected price of around US$ 500, one will have to be taken off the list and though i love the SDF-1, Prime is wining for 2 reasons... 1 - i have the Wave SDF-1 (wich despite the minute size, compared to this, is an awesome figure) and Optimus looks just spectacular. No way i can save for both.

I think its the same weird language Kanno/Robin have used in the other versions. As for availability, as stated in the list, it was released in the Vocal Collection (VC). It's track #20 of Disc 1, to be more precise, here as a standalone track and full version by Maaya Sakamoto. It's also used in edited form in both versions of the Nyan Nyan Service Medley in both OST 2 and the Vocal Collection.

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3

Got my Armored VF-25S yesterday and i'm still in awe of the sheer size and amount of plastic in this bird. There's almos as much plastic in the armored parts as in the 25S itself. This will be one awesome piece of work. -

Thanks. I used mostly stickers, but not all of them. Some details were painted, like the white stripes on the head and the exagonal shoulder pieces (only visible in the othe modes), et cetera. -

VF-25F Final Build Update: It's finaly done. After months of slow, sometimes grueling work (not because of the kit but my poor modeling skills) and a lot of trial and error, the VF-25F now sits proud in its SMS base on the still empty shelf where soon, hopefully, it will be joined by the rest of SMS's Skull Squadron. Here are some pics of this beautiful bird. If i ever bring myself to transform it i will post pics of Gerwalk and Battroid modes. For now i just want to enjoy a work well done (by my standards, at least). And a pic of the bird with its proud pilot. I have already started assembly of the RVF-25 and i must say that the 2nd time around it gets easier. The experience gained from assembling the F reflects in this new build. The inicial fear that i had back when i started this is gone and, hopefully, the mistakes i made during this build will allow the next to go smoother and faster. In the end, this is an amazing kit and deserves a bit of extra work, other than just assembling it straight out of the box. And trust me, it pays of. If a noob like me can do it, anyone can. -

@CF18: What issue of Model Graphix is that, please? I've been finishing my VF-25F for almost 2 weeks. I put all the parts together and since then it's been nothing but adding small details, hope to be finished by the end of this week, i'll post some photos by then. In the meantime i started putting the RVF-25 together.. Big question: F and S canopies are bluish purple, G is blue. But what have you guys been using for the canopy of the RVF? -

BLASPHEMER!!!!!

I'm probably gonna get shot down for saying this but i have to give my 2 cents. I'm under the impression that no official statement about the nature of the film has been made yet, right? As to wether it is a retteling/remake of the series or a sequel? From the available CMs i notice a slight difference in character and art design in the new scenes we've been shown. IMHO they don't seem to blend that well with the "recycled" material. This gives me hope that, as someone has suggested, we're being trolled by the studio and the movie, like DYRL, will be totaly new in terms of animation. As to wether its a re-telling or a sequel, i would preffer a sequel wich could tie the loose ends left by the series. Whatever it may be, i'm sure i'll love it as much as i loved the series.

In that same page is one of the robots from Kawamori's Basquash. It's a bit silly looking mecha in the anime but it looks nice as a model. The color EX-Gear is awesome. ME WANT!!!

If not you can always print the poster to scale and make the plane from that. Pretty simple IMO.

I was thinking the same thing. LOL Anime52k8, i just have to ask... Who's ass is that?

Bandai 1/72 Scale Macross Frontier Model Kit Thread Ver.3

Yeah, i was surprised too, with all the curves and bumps on that section, not to mention the shape of the sticket itself, i thought it would be a nightmare to put this one on. And the stickers are not as dificult to remove, if you mess up, as has been said, i removed one of the ankle guard stickers to reset its position a couple of times and it came off fine. That may be because i placed it just slightly and didn't rub it in. @ VFTF-1: Decals are a lot more complex than soak and peel, follow Regult and Honkhet's advice and research some threads on how to apply those things. Dry transfers rule, its a pity they're not more widely used. And great work on that VF-25S. You G looks awesome , Honkhet. -

Another Update: After finishing work on the right leg and preping the left, i started work on the main assembly. It's great to see the Messiah starting to finaly take shape and how all the different parts fit so well into one another, especialy the head. I've started applying the few stickers that i will use and i have to say that, as for many of the posts above, disapointment is the word for most. The hexagonal red-black stickers for the shoulder piece is the wrong shape and doesn't set well on the corners. Result: a grueling atempt to actualy paint those. The long black sticker in the side of the "leg" is the right size but... the little printed vernier thruster is in the wrong place. Having cut off the vernier drawn in it, i was left with the option of placing the sticker to fit the actual position of the thruster and trimming it down to size. Smaller details in red and black were done with gundam markers. The red tail fin sticker is worthless, as stated above, so i masked them and will paint it. The ankle guard stickers are tricky but with a few ajustments get into place... or at least close enough. The one that surprised me was the one that goes around the intake. Because of the complex pattern, i decided to try and apply the sticker though, because of the shape in wich it is cut and the shape of the surface in wich it would be aplied... i braced for the worse. But after just a bit of careful lining of the center section of the sticker, the rest fell smoothly into place. A true surprise. This comes to show you, sometimes the most complex looking task ends up being the easiest. One final upgrade i made was hading a small fine red line to the antenas. I noticed this detail recently while watching the episodes and i just had to add them. This was made by cutting 2 small pieces of excess from the red stickers. Next: -Completing the left leg, painting the fin and stabilizers details and putting the few parts that are left together and finaly the grueling task of stickering, clear coating and dirtying this bird. I feel that although far from perfect, this is looking better than my innicial expectations and served as a good practice round for the rest of the Skull Squad. Many mistakes that were made here will serve as lessons for the future and hopefully, those will be built a lot faster. Luca and Michel are next since Ozma will be on stand-by... i'm still hoping there will be a stand-alone Armor pack and i might be able to use my VF-25S. If not...well, the VF-25S bundle is pre-ordered... we'll see. -

Sorry. I tend to call seam lines to the parting line of two parts that should, preferably, be removed or made as subtle as possible. This is a line between two parts but should not disapear since in the anime there is a line across the VF-25 nose, so i called it a panel line. This is just another testament to how well Bandai tried to hide the seam lines on these babies. -
