I got the "book" directly from Yamato Crew site. It's a beautiful thing but...i'll put it this way, if you can spare the cash, by all means, buy it. If you're on a tight budget, wait 'till they publish a proper book, not a 28 page booklet. All episode are online already, not to mention HD BDrips. As for the fighter storage issue, the remake does make a good job of fitting them properly inside the ship. The original... man, so much could be said. The hangar was basically a huge room wich served as a "runway", with the fighters stored on pallets on the sides, they just opened the hatch and the fighter lauched from there. Never mind the fact the room was larger than the ship would allow, never mind the engine room is supposed to be occupying the space above that. XD Here everything is tucked nicely around the engine room, wich is sort of the axis for the elevator carroussels (they dont go around in a circular patern, mind you) and the hatch serves as catapult. My only contentions are: 1 - How are the fighter retrieved (guess they'll show us in future episodes) 2 - The rear "carroussel" is alined with the catapult hatch, making it impossible to rotate as the forward one. Either those are backup fighters and those are simply storage pallets or the "carroussel" can slide forward when the other is empty. The Cosmo Zeros are stored in the upper deck. Still waiting for the retrieval system too. A detail that's been pointed out, you'll notice the rear main cannon's base is inside that hangar. Because bellow is the engine room, there is no place for the type-3 shell loading system, like in the forward ones. Notice that only the forward cannons have fired those shell?! That's why. Cosmo Seaguls and T-100 Recon crafts are stored in another area. These are the other way around, we've seen how they are retreived but not launched, though i'm guessing the process is the same but reversed. Crane lifts them out and releases. The Cosmo Falcons are probably collected the same way as there seems to be a hatch from the retrieval deck back to the hangar. Take notice of this. The staff behind Yamato 2199 is taking this type of thing very seriously, in terms of what can actually be fit into the ship. Sure, this is anime sci-fi and a certain level of anime magic is allowed XD but that is the main mantra behind this remake. The increase in size to 333m wasn't random. They actually ran the figures of what it would take to fit such structures into the Yamato and the previous size was falling short. So they increased the ships size, within reasonable limits, of course. We couldn't have a 1000m long Yamato, that wouldn't be Yamato anymore. I'm willing to bet if we were to grab every room, corridor and deck shown so far, they would fit into place. Those rooms and corridors with slanted or round walls aren't designed like that by accident.

Director Yutaka Izubuchi has described the tone difference between chapters 2 and 3 as 2 being "motion" and 3 being "stillness". Chapter 3 still has a good degree of action but it would be difficult to keep the level of chapter 2. But rest assured. Chapter 4 will probably up the ante again with Domel and his forces coming into the scene. What i'm finding is that even the most slow character driven episodes have so much stuff going on that you don't really feel them as slow. I think boring won't be in this shows dictionary.

One word. DOMEL. And if we look at the original, they didn't exactly get much hassle from the Gamilas between Pluto and the battle of the Rainbow Galaxy, those and the battle at Gamilas were the only big battles where the Yamato was really baddly damaged. I believe chapter 4 will bring some peril with Domel entering the scene and Falken and his Subspace Submarines launching an attack. Also, from what's been said from the start, Dessler might have his hands full in the home front with those who want to depose him.

The series will have the same number of episodes than the original first season, 26. Hopefully the remaining story arcs will get a similar treatment. They are laying the foundations for that already by introducing Gatlantis as a contender for the Gamilas in one of their battle fronts. The only part i agree felt a bit rushed (but after seeing it over 50 times, you get over it) was episode 3, because it condensed the first warp and Floating Continent/WMG test fire all into one. But the result was spectacular. If you go back to the original, most of what as been cut was really filler (and put in at a time they believed the show would be at least 39 episodes long). Asn the amount of stuff they've put in is amazing. Taking all this into account, i feel the pace is just right. As for figures, that Yuki is beautiful and i'm very tempted. Hopefully Bandai will have some smaller HGIF type figures made. Cross your fingers. In other news, the two Gamilas fleet captains revealed in episode 11 get provisional character files (i,e. no information except their name and voice actor) - Vemu Heidern (i've been using the semi-official translation for the 1974 character's name, Hidrun, but this seems better ) - Fomto Barger (here, the original seems better than Burger XD)

So, as i poped to the yamato2199.net page i was surprised to fing a huge increase in the characters section. Not 1, not 2... but 5 new Gamilas characters. The first two are easily recognizable and correct me if i'm wrong but, did Hizubuchi just found a way to explain why the Talan in season 1 looks so different from the Talan in season 2 and forward. If i'm not mistaken the Falcon kit is a resin kit by a garage kit maker (don't recall the name) and its a pricey one. With the 3 ship kit at less than 30 bucks, paying almost 150 for a fighter... no thanks. I'm certain Bandai will put those out eventually and at a much better price. Hope they make some figures, even if they're in gashapon form. The dream would be a full crew roster as well as the main Gamilas cast but i guess if they do do it, it will be only for the main characters, like Megahouse did with the original series a few years ago. I have that set and its great but ots only Kodai, Yuki, Okita, Dessler and Starsha's bust.

The relation between Yuki and Yurisha has been under discussion since the start, ever since the existence of this new sister was revealed. As far as the Pluto gamilas are concerned, yep, they've been turned from evil lackeys to... normal soldiers that are fighting a war against an enemy. What makes them "evil" is the fact that that enemy is us. But after these 6 episodes i think i'll feel sorry for Shulz when he bites the big one...if they kill him at all. That would be a twist. The conflict between Kodai (Wildstar) and Okita (Avatar) is not as strong but in a good way. Kodai is a bit less of a hot head in this version and he understands the circumstances of his brothers death, especially when he discovers what his role was to be in the Yamato Project in episode 2. As for his conflict with Shima (Venture) they butt heads in episode 4 but overall they're much like they were in the original. The show is exploring a lot more of the characters, an example of that is that in the 2 episodes that comprise the attack on the Pluto base and the Reflex Gun, where as in the original it was all battle from the start, here half of the first episode is the characters going around and interacting, strategizing, and Yamamoto getting transfered to her rightful place, the actual action only starts way into the 2nd act. As for the Yamato girls, they are far from being only fan service. The one that can be considered more as such is Makoto, the nurse. That huge....heart is really evident in a space suit, especially in episode 4. XDDD But even she is quite a lovable character, balancing the hotness, fan-service side with being a sweet, caring nurse and comic relief. The rest of the main girls (because several others have been spotted) has the fan service side more evident in promotion materials than the show itself.

The video playing at the start is a 30 second Chapter 3 preview, much like the episode previews at the end of each episode but this was at the end of the Chapter 2 movie. I haven't posted that video because Bandai had my youtube account closed for posting the previews and clips. according to a post at starblazers.com , Dengeki Hobby released an article with a few kits (Kirishima and Yukikaze, at least) with a predicted release in October.

The part itself is part of the kit. Look here It is the Action Base that is sold separately but they're not that expensive. And maybe Bandai will launch a special edition one. I have the Macross F and Gundam 00 Celestial Being ones, quite nice. They work just as the standard one but are molded in the shape of SMS and CB insignias. Makes a more stiking display. Imagine one made in the shape of the UNCF anchor insignia... DROOOOOOOL. XD

Just got it from Nico Video and it features the new version of the Gamilas ambient music wich sounds a lot different from the original but in a good way (IMHO). So, Batou has joined the Gamilas cause, or rather his voice actor, Akio Õtsuka, who is set to voice none other than Domel (Lysis). First Yamadera for Dessler, now this... the Gamilas are sure getting some heavy hitters on their side. XD

Like for the first movie a fan has mixed new footage with old sound from original episode 4 and made this video. Most of it is from the 9 minute preview and Floating Continent battle scenes we already saw, except here those scenes are in HD quality. But what makes this really worth seing are the scenes at the start and end wich give us the first view of the Big Blue Guy himself, Dessler, acompanied by his female guards, Hiss and Celestra. The Beeland/Beemera story will be part of 2199, but according to Izubuchi it will be told in a very different way. Seeing how they are tackling the series and considering that there will be new stories at some point to fill the gaps left by the more compact story telling of these first episodes, it's difficult to venture a guess at what the future might bring. From what we know of chapter 3, episode 7 will deal with the original episode 10.I don't know if they'll have the final battle with Schulz from episode 9 mixed in there too, the Gaiderol will appear but at what point is still uncertain, from what i've picked up Schulz will be following the Yamato and eventually that final battle will happen but at what point is still unknown. Episodes 11 and 12 (Space Mines and Ecto Gas) seem to have been condensed into episode 8 with no mention of the "Desslock Mines" though the Ecto Gas story will be kept more or less as it was. Episode 13, the one dealing with the captured pilot and Kodai's past, has been retooled for episode 9, with some elements from that Beeland story mixed in, relating to Analizer's perception of his role within the Yamato's crew. The pilot is not a Gamilas but an android of some kind, named Orta, and Analizer will develop some rapport with him while the security chief, Ito, thinks it should be destroyed. Finally, elements from episodes 14 and 15 (Octopus Star Storm and Galactic Wirlpool) are used in a new story in episode 10 where the Yamato finds itself trapped in a Dimensional Rift along with a Gamilas vessel with the two having to work together to escape. (Maybe the Gaiderol itself, that would be a twist ) This actually looks to me like an update of the playstation game scenario where you had to find a Gamilas ship and use its navigational computer to escape the rift. This last episode might fix the massive Deus Ex Machina from the Galactic Wirlpool episode where Starsha miraculously intervenes to save the Yamato. Risking a guess, i hope they keep the Balan artificial sun battle, since an explanation for that sun has been long standing. The Balanodon might be removed or heavilly retooled. The episode that dealt with Aihara's homesickness... IMO one the worse episodes EVER, i hope they get rid of it. After Balan, i can see the Rainbow Galaxy battle gain a massive upgrade (Izubuchi has claimed the drill missile will be kept...sort of). As for the rest, the whole dragging the Yamato to the sulfuric acid seas of Gamilas bit... might need a bit of work. Yabu's mutiny in Iscandar is a touchy subject, let's see how they deal with it. And the biggest question of all when reaching Iscandar (apart from wether Yuki is Yurisha or not XD )...will Kodai be there in this remake?
