In truth, I feel having an uncluttered shelf with just one piece on it looks way better than the jam packed shelves. Don't get me wrong, I would love to own a million macross toys, but I only have 10 myself. But seriously, when you go to any museum, the pieces are spread out so you can really apreciate the details and design of each one. If I had a million toys, I would still have my favorites reside on their own shelves individually, or maybe 2 of the same toy in different modes, then I would have a cluttered basement layed out like a giant battle diorama. I was in Italy and I saw "David" at the Acedemia whatever, and he was awesome. Could stare at the details forever. Then you walk out in the city and where he used to stand, they've put up a replica of him. And you know what, He was dwarfed by the buildings and multiple other statues nearby. And lastly, Using this approach, you save money, and your wife and friends can apreciate (or put up with) your collection too! -
Sorry, I know this is a bit late this year since Easter came so early... but here's a blasphemous "Happy Easter" from my custom Stealth 1J and his cyborg bunny (Briareos)

Here are my 2 custom GBP armor sets, and the third pic... well, I know he is not a valk, and some would consider it blasphemy to post a gundam pic here, but I'm not a big fan of gundam either. I only like the design of the RX-178 so it's the only gundam I own. I painted it my own scheme, and then after some time, decided it would look better with some leftover Macross decals. I personally would love to see bandai make a PG valk.

I had the aquarion (transforming) toys at one time, and it was well built. The only common complaint I heard was that it was so heavy from all the die-cast, that it didn't stand well. In a way, I wouldn't mind if it had some die-cast in it, but we'll have to wait and see.

thanks for the kind words and I've decided in order to pay for the YF-21, and a fleet of VF-1's I'm selling it on ebay
-
does anyone have a side by side comparison with the original release? I'm so tempted to replace my old one with this movie color version.
-
your shldrs r upside down
-
I agree, I kept the valk clean because I'm thinking about selling the armor. Otherwise I would have dirtied him up too.

Here's the last of my 1/48 customs, as I don't own any others and I think I'm leaning towards the 1/60's. Anyways, back when this Urban Camo set came out, I got it, but then wondered why it didn't look as good as the custom painted model it was based on... so I decided to custom paint it myself. I airbrushed and weathered this guy over the last few days (look closely). Since I'm trying to save up for upcoming Macross purchase, I may sell this guy on ebay, but haven't decided yet. I carefully carved out the stickers, so no extra clear parts remain, and then i clearcoated the whole thing over top the airbrushing and stickers for a durable finish. hope you like it.

I could picture the meeting... the sales team of 3 suits feigning interest in the series and going on about the "super-illumination" and "exo-articulation" and talking these toys up as if they were the most ground breaking toys in the history of the world, when in fact the production models didn't live up to the prototypes, and all the "Robotech" stuff were just Matchbox re-releases.
-
I guess you're right. I think with the Robotech/Macross toys only some colors were changed from the original Matchbox versions. Of the exosquad toys, some of them never made it to production, like the Space Conquest E-frame.
-
I'm just clearing out all my old stuff, and was selling all my custom exo-squad toys on ebay, when I discovered some old prototype toy pictures from a Playmates Toys Catalog from 1995. I thought I would post scans before I sold them, so if you want to see all 22 pages (only several are Macross/Robotech related) go to flickr.com and search for "Exosquad Prototypes" Here's a few of the pages: a few color variations that never made it, and some better detailed colorings than the actual toys ended up having in some cases.

The funny thing here is: a) Kawamori created these wonderous things, b) he drew them up (ie: wrote them down on paper), c) us fanatics follow the line art and anime, some want the fighter mode line art followed more closely, others the battroid mode, d) then we all fight about who is more right and what part is more important kinda like a religion; a) (someone - or some divine being - creates it), b) someone writes it down on paper c) fanatics follow the written word, some want this chapter or book followed, others want something else d) then we all fight about who's got it more right, and in the meantime, the world goes on and Kawamori is probably busy making new armored core leg parts (or whatever) Disclaimer: I don't mean to offend, just to make a stupid analogy. For those non-religious people, we can all believe a person wrote the story of many religions, and to all the religious people out there, we can view Kawamori as a divine being.... I'm happy either way. I'm stoked for all these new 1/60s!

1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
physioguy replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm a sucker for the upcoming 1/60 valkyries, even from just one little pic! I just listed all my extra 1/48 scale valks on ebay in one big lot. I'll probably get enough for only 1 new 1/60 but who cares -
I hope so. I hate the green dildo, so I customized it to match the 25th aniversary YF-19 in hopes that someone wants it.
-
I wouldn't have jumped into doing this if I didn't break him first. Once his tailfins broke off, I said to hell with it. Now I'm thinking of doing my YF-21 when it finally arrives!
-
1/72 = sold 'em all! 1/60 = 8 pcs. 1/48 = 6 pcs.
-
I've been wanting to do this for a while now, but here's some pics of my airbrushed and weathered 1/48 VF-1J with GBP armor. I broke the backpack off this figure, so I decided to paint and glue the armor parts on permenantly, to make a sturdier action figure. It took such a long time, I'm wondering whether I should sell it, just to help me pay for the upcoming YF-21 (and possibly a VF-11B)
-
well, I make 7 figures... and I commision robotics and aeronautics engineers to build fully functional valkyries... just kidding. Seriously though, It's all priorities. I decided to only collect Macross Valkyries from Yamato (but I still kept my old Diaclones and Binaltechs). It came down to me realizing that, sure, 1 large Valk costs as much as 13 standard action figures, but what looks better on your desk? A handful of valks or hundreds of action figures. Another bonus is that your wife (girlfriend, boyfriend, whatever) will probably apreciate the less is more deal too (so long as you can convince them you're not spending any more money than normal) harry

Silly Question perhaps but big hands for the 1/48 ?
physioguy replied to Rhapsodyred99's topic in Toys
If you mean the really large blocky ones, you're probably thinking of the ones that came with the GBP armor sets. All my valks have those hands on them now. -
Is it just me, or is there a general consensus that Kaiyodo will be making some regults to go with this line? The old kaiyodo gashapon were almost the exact same proportions, and these revoltechs seem to be a bit smaller than the other Revoltechs. (Does anyone have comparison pics next to other Revoltechs?)

Has anyone actually ever completed a Nichimo 1/200 scale model kit?
physioguy replied to drkstar00's topic in Model kits
I took my 1/200 nichmo Scout and customized it onto a kaiyodo gashapon (you can see him in the back row). The detail on these models were great, but i like the exagerated proportions on the Kaiyodos, so it was a perfect marriage (of parts). -
Just wanted to sahre an idea for a Macross Playset for Doyusha's and Kaiyodo gashapon. I was going to customize this motorized (with electronic lights and sounds) into a Prometheus from Macross, but I just don't have the time. If there's some good customizers out there you should take a crack at it. wouldn't be much work. I'll probably let mine go on an online auction if i get the time to list it.
