For the 'ol X-Com fans... "UFO Extraterrestrials"
Akilae replied to Warmaker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm not holding my breath... UFO:E has been "near release" so long and the release dates changed so many times it's not funny anymore. -
Modern sub warfare = Push the "I win" button and let your self-tracking automatic torp do the work. WWII = sweating it out trying to calculate a firing solution for your dumb torp as three destroyers bear down on you. (Or let the TDC do it, but you still need to pop up your scope to get a solution...) Other than that, it's not much different. Still gotta play the slow waiting game more than anything else. Anybody interested should give SHIII a spin. It's been out for quite a while, and with latest patches is more stable than SHIV is right now.

Never liked tanks myself.... I used a different tactic: soldiers! All my missions have two squads, each with a designated rocket launcher who carried 1 launcher, 1 rocket in hand, and three more in the backpack. Each squaddie would carry two more rockets per person. All of this is on top of the 1x HE pack, 2 grenads, and 1 prox that everybody carried. With the heavy load and all the throwing/shooting, you build up stamina, strength, and accuracy in a real big hurry. Yeah, you can tell I like big-booms -
Just a little tip I didn't pick up for quite a while: One shot under the keel > Direct hit on the hull. Generally you want a magnetic pistol torp set to run +2~3 meters under the keel depth of the ship you're firing on (+5~6 in anything with big waves I think). One good shot will break the keel and the ship will go down without much fuss. This is how most sub commanders gained reputations for "One torp, one target". It's a bit more fuss to set up, but once you get the hang of it, you can fire from any direction and have the satisfaction of seeing that famous column of exploding water followed by a tanker breaking in the middle. Another plus for magnetic pistols: You aren't limited to a fussy and hard to set up 90 degree shot. High deflection shots will work just as well. Then again, I'm used to playing the German side of things, maybe the US Navy has better impact pistols :-p Also, if they kept crew fatigue mechanics the same, keep your crew rotated! It can make a life/death difference whether you have a man falling asleep on lookout or someone bright eyed and bushy tailed. Dang... all this talk of subs and torps makes me wanna pick up SHIV...

How's SHIV? I played SHIII for quite a while. It was a great thrill setting up a firing solution and sinking the Ark Royal at port. Some of the micro-managing in the game was a bit "eh", like crew fatigue... I ended up applying a ton of fan patches for maximum realism, and the game kept dying on me after the realistic dive depth patch. Haven't played ever since... It does take a certain type of person to be able to play naval sim games though. A regular person would probably go insane from the waiting if they took a Type IX out on Operation Drumbeat, or trying to keep in mind the differences needed for setting up a firing solution for impact pistol and magnetic pistol torps, or even trying to evade DDs after a successful run on a convoy... Good times...

June is being very optimistic. Ep. 4 was just screened at this year's Tokyo Anime Fair and hasn't been aired yet.

Odd question--has nothing to do with toys or anime...

Well, if I'm using EAC + lame, I have it set at VBR ~192. 160 and lower and I start hearing the differences. -

Akilae replied to Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Is there any confirmed news on whether AC6 is gonna be XBOX360 exclusive or cross platform? Would kinda suck to have to buy into two consoles to get my AC and ZOE fix... -

"real life actors"? AC0? *blink...* AC0 used 3DCG all the way. -
There's also Kingdom of Heaven... historical trainwreck, but frickin good visuals. Even "Rome" with all it's hubbub about historical accuracy took plenty of liberties. Maybe... just *maybe* Saving Ryan's Privates. But "Band of Brothers" was probably more historically accurate. Clint's Iwo Jima duology didn't fare too bad, and it's about as accurate as you can get. There's "Memphis Belle", which was big in its day, although I'm not sure how accurate the movie is.

Which one might that be? -
From what I gather, yes, NASA does have a bad habit of misplacing items, due to: 1) Massive inventory. 2) Shoddy record keeping. 3) Employee dishonesty. So if the negative is authentic, I imagine that it was obtained through rather dubious means. If that's the case, if the government deemed fit, they could probably come after you for it. Won't arrest you or anything, but they would likely demand it back. Of course all this is from hearsay, so take it was you will. Now, if it's SDI related, then I'd definately watch it. SDI isn't defunct in any way, and research is still active in that area.

Oh come now, it's obvious what you're focusing on G-man... it's on the girl holding the SV!

Just a lil comment on "brand name" PSUs: I've had two brand name power supplies blow out on me within a year, and my current generic brand is still going strong after two years. Go figure. What I'm told is: if you're sure the power you getting in your house is clean, then a generic will save you money. If you're not sure about the power in your house, then get a brand name, and a power strip/surge protector to go with it. -
You guys really, REALLY need to get Shippuuden... it's back on track and animation quality is as good as ever.

Well, the long wait is over.. the first part, Okasho, came out a few days ago. Go get it at the "usual sources" people, so far only raws are out, but it's not hard to follow. Some of the best 30 minutes my screen has seen in quite a while, I dare say....

Somehow I get the feeling that this can't end well for Lelouch... I have yet seen any piece of literary work, text or imaged based, that takes the successful genius of an anti-hero who sacrifices so much to reach his ends and actually lets him achieve it. You heard it here first: Lelouch is gonna die (perhaps even by Suzaku's hand), and Suzaku will go on to change Britannia from within.

Not to mention the 75% is limited to the Ubootflotten, which in and of itself was a VERY small part of the German army as a whole. Doenitz at any given time was very lucky to have more than ten boats out at sea... Now if we expanded 75% to the entirety of Germany's military power in ONE battle... yep, two or three or those and the Allies wouldn't even need to land in Normandy. Keep in mind how military drafts go: First the young men, then the older men, then the much older men, before long you'll be drafting your kids, which is what Germany ended up doing. It only took about 6 years for them to get there... Does anybody have the numbers for WWI? What with the "Lost Generation" and all that... Back on topic. One of my pet peaves regarding space combat: Whenever you use kinetic weapons (e.g. BSG), you always operate under the assumption that the projectile will hit something. Now on earth all projectiles eventually hit the ground due to gravity and air resistance. What happens in space? Does the projectile keep on shooting out, until it hits some unfortunate freighter that crosses its path? Just taking "realism" to the extreme, but makes for some interesting scenarios.

Well that does it then, with the FFVI release that's the other half of the reason I'd need to buy another Nintendo handheld (my last being the original gameboy, lol).

Wonder if they're gonna make improvements on the original translations (yay), or make additional changes to the game play a la FFT:A (nay)...

Ha! For YEARS I've been saying that GITS had another manga out other than 1 & 2, none of my friends believed me! Man, Fat Cat was my first introduction to GITS... good memories...
