Is anything happening on that "Alpha Release" front? Do any of the mod developers even come to this thread any more?

My Japan Trip - Gundam, Girls and other Good Things
Akilae replied to shiyao's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have lots of Japanese friends, and they're some of the friendliest people I know. They are polite when they don't know you, and when you become friends with them, they'll practically bend over backwards to help you before you even ask. -
Yeah... the "GIGAAA DRRRRIL BRRREAKAAAA!" part. In fact.. sounds a lot like Kamina, lol.

That's odd... I use CCCP, and it's playing just fine. Even Matroska's official website recommends CCCP for playback: http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html Scroll down and try out the Matroska Splitter by Gabest, I used it back in the day and it also worked. Failing that... try any in the list :-p

It's an mkv container. Google for CCCP codec pack and you'll be set.

more manly tears...

I actually stayed away this time... then some asshat in the WoW Druid forums spoiled it in the middle of a posting...

yeah, the 747 was also promoted with a piano lounge and all that... Don't get your hopes up, airlines will still cram as many as they can into the 787, we'll still be stuck with no legroom.

Ep. 4 airing in Japan on June 22nd. No idea if the September release is realistic... might be, if they had just spent the entire year rendering their 3D scenes, lol.

For the 'ol X-Com fans... "UFO Extraterrestrials"
Akilae replied to Warmaker's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The controls are about the only main gripes I have, for some reason it just seems clunky. Then again, it could be that I keep seeing it and thinking X-COM, expecting X-COM controls :-p But otherwise, it's fun and not too graphics heavy, so I know I'll be able to install it on my laptop for gaming on the go. I think the main thing they're putting in now is the storyline, so a complete release shouldn't be too far off. -

Why pay money to apply open source mods... when you can just get an open source game? <shameless plug> UFO: Alien Invasion </shameless plug> -
Just hopped over from NMA, where they posted developer notes along with the Van Buren demo. The engine was orignally developed to be real time, and as of the tech demo deadline they didn't have time to fully convert it over to turn based. The player would have been able to choose between real time/turn based. As for the splat... well... such is what we have sacrificed for 3D. Apparently Van Buren was never meant to have the same over-the-top gore than Fallout 1 & 2 had...

Another in-the-spirit-of-X-COM game you guys can check out is UFO: Alien Invasion. It's open source and moving at a pretty fast pace. Currently in beta release, but everything looks friggin nice so far. -

If it's a crash site mission and it's at night, I find it extremely helpful to not do anything the first 1 or 2 rounds. Don't do anything, and just listen. Also, have a rookie stand on the ramp (don't deplane, if you can just throw from inside the transport)), inch foward one square at a time and throw grenades, HE packs, prox mines, and flares.. anything that clears out the LZ and lights up the area. -

For me, I would push it as far as I could (before researching the Martian Solution), but eventually one of two things would happen: 1) The infamous blue/green text bug. 2) Too many nations pull their support. -
Why not just buy B-17: Flying Fortress for all your bombing needs :-p

I say yes! Release what you guys have so far! This mod is the only reason I still have HW2 installed!

man.. TIE Fighter.... I used to cringe whenever they sent you out on Missile Boat missions... 99% of the time it meant you were going to be the only Imperial ship in the entire mission... While the T/D was a superfighter, personally I enjoyed flying the T/A more. The T/A was faster and more agile fighter, while the T/D was more heavily armed. Being used to flying the T/I for half of the game, the T/A responded better somehow. The most intense mission was when Zaarin was smoked out as a traitor and it's you in a lone, unshielded T/I against a star destroyer and its entire contingent of fighters as you waited for the Order to jump in and pick you up. It would rock if they let could let you fly a death star mission from the Imperial side... the very last mission is you sending off the Emperor as he warps off...

Late war Allied ASW is also pretty nerve wracking... much larger sonar cone, and almost always a small fleet of them so half of them are pinging and half of them are listening. Considering you have to close within 500 meters of a target to ensure they won't have time to turn when they spot the steam bubbles of your torp... Of course, shooting off a spread of four at 1km also works, but such a waste of valuable torps...
