I hope they really end the show with a bang... (shudders at Farscape-style cancellations... "to be continued...") Wonder how SG: Atlantis will turn out. The best episodes are when they totally parody themselves...

huh... well, if somebody else says so, then yeah, backup your registry key while you're at it. For my computer though, I run win2k (CHT), with half of my programs installing into folders that carry chinese names. Would hate to see windows having a hiccup trying to sort through all the foriegn language folders. I hear winxp multi-language support is better though.... ANYWAY... at the very least you got two guys saying you should do a clean install =) upgrades/install-overs usually run into SOME sort of problem...
-
absolute best way would be to backup all your stuff, reformat, do a clean install.... if not, I know the good ol win98/2k trick of deleting the system folder (and ONLY the main system folder), and then simply installing into the same directory. I remember just doing a straight install once without deleting, a few problems here and there (like a HUGE system folder...), but the whole setup worked. But we're talking about different language installations.... ah.. screw it, I'd just do a clean install. More of a hassle, but less problems to iron out in the future. You'll need to reinstall everything anyway, since your system registry is gonna get wiped out (you COULD back that up, but it'll be... problematic porting the registry between different lanuages). To avoid any and all problems reinstalling in the future, best to have all your data on a different hard drive, that way all of your saved games, mp3z, and pr0n you spent so long downloading will be safe =)

OT, but there's a lot of F-14 fans on this board

The fighter jocks on the usenet discussions that ewilen dug out DID seem to agree, despite their differences, that the F-8 was a very formidable plane... for its time =) -
Whats your favorite dirty pleasure Scifi flick?
Akilae replied to GobotFool's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
amen to Event Horizon... the movie as a whole didn't attract me that much, but raised a very good question that I use as a plot device when writing science fiction: How the **** do you know what the other end of the wormhole opens to on that very first test run???? Hackers was so bad (from a late 90s/early 21st century POV), but also so cool (from an early/mid 90s POV)... gonna have to pull it out again just to giggle at it again... -
mm.... yeeesss.... time to bring my old and dusty Gold Cloths up to date... any idea when those are coming out? As much as I love the show and the original Bronze Cloths, the Gold Cloths were simply so much more... shinier :-p

DYRL flight suits and helmets (and other stuff...)
Akilae replied to Montarvillois's topic in Movies and TV Series
huh, I wonder how much weight I can put on those quads... maybe a chain gun, a howitzer... moonlight even? Sorry, that head just brought back a lot of flashbacks -
But... don't we see the air intakes on the VF-0 closing right before Shin dives it into the water? If the intakes are closed.... then where are the turbines getting water?

For some reason, KOTOR seems to run just peachy on my comp... then again, I don't have anything wierd running on it, other than my RD-RAM.... Granted, I haven't seen the Xbox version, but if nobody told me, I wouldn't think it was a... ahem.. co-developed product. The mouse control is a tad bit clunky, but not too far off. Graphics are up to par for PC, although a bit bland in terms of textures (then again, the Jedi Knight series also suffered from that...). Gameplay is great, although there are some places where you can't help but feel either 1) There's already an expansion coming or 2) A LOT was cut from the final product. All the in-game talk about upgrading swoop bikes and the interactions with the kolto distribution officer on Manaan come to mind as tantalizing leads but don't go anywhere. On the other hand, we have such co-developed disasters such as Deus Ex: Invisible War (the story is wonderful, but you can't help but feel you're playing a bad console PORT, instead of a co-developed product, and the controls are even clunkier), Secret Weapons over Normandy, etc.. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we have to wait and see. But so far, aside from KOTOR, Lucasarts hasn't churned out anything in the recent years that has managed to get the blood pumping. TIE Fighter is still the best Actually, any word on who's doing the development? We'll have a better idea of what to expect... right now I'll grab up anything from Bioware, while Totally Games is on my caution list

Wow, you guys in here know your Patlabor... then let me pose a question, if I may. Is the chopper in Patlabor 2 based on anything in the real world? I can't even find any images of it to act as reference, other than DVD grabs that are insufficient for my purposes. I think it also made an appearance in Patlabor 1, at the very beginning. It seems to draw inspiration from the Hind, but with a skinnier side profile, and a gatling gun of sorts slung under the belly.

The US version came out today actually, I only knew about it when I saw all those boxes stacked behind the counter.
-
Has anybody picked up FFX-2 yet? My local Gamestop just got like two huge boxes of them, dunno whether it's worth it buying yet.
-
Actually, for emulation I think video card would be most important. I think Pete's plugins recommends at least a Geforce 2 or 3. Other than that, your CPU and RAM really shouldn't have any problems with ePSXe. IMHO, there's nothing wrong with ePSXe, other than some quirks with certain games. I've used it to run FF7-9, FFT, Vagrant Story, SOTN, VFX2, Valkyrie Profile, and Raiden without any problems. You'll have to tweak each game to get the best balance between quality and speed, but the results are generally impressive.
-
Well, if you have the hard drive space, it's worth it. Figure about 700 megs per game (x2 for Xenogears, 2 disks). Some run almost like slideshows straight off the CD, FF9 battle transition scenes for me were like slideshows, and FFT wouldn't even run properly till I ripped it.
-
What does it do better than ePSXe? I mean, all the graphical and audio stuff is handled by third-party drivers, so I guess it handles games better? I know ePSXe has a few fatal flaws.. the Deus battle in Xenogears comes to mind...
-
I wouldn't suggest using a CD-ROM drive for use with an emulator... you get MUCH better performance by ripping the disk. - Oh, yeah, for anybody into the emulation realm... www.ngemu.com . The only site you'll ever need. Supposedly a PS2 emulator is coming out soon... like two weeks soon.
-
Finally, another SRPG on PS2 other than Ring of Red... anybody else play that? I could only find one used copy out of three local game stores... guess the game tanked in the states....

Eva always bring out responses whenever it's posted.. everybody has their own opinion =) Now... time to put in my own two pennies... If anything, watch the series first, and try REALLY HARD to understand where it's all going... watch it first for all the action, then the second time to focus specifically on the psychological side of the show. The last two episodes are really introspective... after 20+ epsidoes of mech combat, that's a bit disappointing, but the conclusion actually makes sense.... at least more than the subsequent releases... Which brings me to the movies... AWESOME Asuka fight sequence, that girl was actually more skilled than Shinji could ever be... would have wanted to see what EVA-02 could have done if it had gone berserk successfully. But all the plot lines are sort of patched together... it doesn't quite flow. Watch it and you'll be telling yourself: 1) They were milking the series. or 2) The fan uproar was too big for them to ignore.

man... Orgun was the anime that introduced me to the whole shebang... a local anime/manga store was showing it on their TV, I just stood there and watched the entire first episode and thought "That is Cool!" Granted the plot could have been slightly improved, but as it is it's a relatively fast paced anime with wonderful animation and even greater music....

How about the assault gunboats? That was always a question of mine... in TIE Fighter, whenever you ran into trouble and called for assistence, a flight of gunboats would hyper in a moment later with a blaze of lasers, ions, and missiles. In X-Wing Alliance, assault gunboats were all over the place... So where were they at Endor? Speaking of overwhelming odds, anybody remember how the TIE Fighter expansion packs made YOU, an Imperial pilot, fight against overwhelming odds? I still remember the beginning of Defender of the Empire (I think.. either that or the other expansion...) where your entire flight of two TIE Defenders hyper in to save the factories... I always had mixed feelings in missions involving either the TIE Defender or the missile boat.. it meant that either you were gonna go cap ship happy, or you were gonna be the only flight of Imperial fighters in the area.... mmm..... also when you first discover of Admiral Zaarin's nature... "Gamma 2 and Gamma 3, destroy Gamma 1!" 1 lone TIE Interceptor against... a minefield, a star destroyer and its contingent of TIEs.... okay, yeah, this is bringing back good memories... pity X-Wing Trilogy won't run properly under windows 2000 Gonna have to dig out the old Riva 128, Soundblaster Pro, and put together a classic gaming computer...

What's the story about? I'm too cheap for HBO... bleh.... saw a few teasers for it though, liked the overal tone from what I saw.... maybe I'll grab the DVDs when they come out....

Well, Totally Games, which did X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and all the other PC Star Wars shooters, is coming out with Secret Weapons over Normandy... so dust off that flightstick, I'm doing the same for mine! It's not a space shooter, but at least it's not a hardcore flightsim... besides, it's Lawerence Holland! The man knows how to make shooters! Now if only Totally Games and Lucasarts didn't fall out of favour with each other all those years...

heck, just buy him the costume if he's REALLY insistent... after all, "macho-ism" doesn't really set in until puberty. Before that, boys really don't have have the social pressure to act manly. If I were you, I'd even help him dress up, snap quite a few photos of him, and use those to forever haunt him later on in life For something more.... wholesome... get him on Berserk
