Who is going to die in Macross Frontier???
VF-25 Messiah replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
But she's also arguably the main female character of the show. Can't say I saw all of Aquarion, but Sara didn't die in Zero... (well interpretations of the wonky end aside) and neither did Mao. -
That's maybe the real reason she clutches her stomach when inside that green bubble, and not because of some silly purple lights!

The mystery of Ranka and Sheryl's mothers

Would be ironic if the "all natural" Sheryl ended up having been created rather than born. -

Given that I've been watching these episodes far too many times now, yes. And I believe others did as well. -

Can't say very I'm surprised. And I think its "Fold fame" -
Don't use them at all, I say. They have their place in japanese, but not in english. The translator should take into account whatever nuances they add in the original sentence and form up his translation based on that. Doing otherwise is a cheap cop-out in my opinion. You'd never hear it in a dub, because noone actually speaks like that and it'd sound utterly stupid. You can still hear whatever honorics being used when you listen to the original japanese dialouge while reading the subs, so you're not exactly missing out. Ah well just my take on it...

Oh alright. You'll have to stomach a rough one, since I'm too lazy to polish it up also my browser seems to have issues (or does anyone else see it too?) with this particular entry: I feel kinda sluggish... Theme: Blog. What is "Being busy?" "Being busy" is a favourite saying, aint it? That and people asking "busy lately?" What gives? Why would they want to ask something like that? As if I weren't busy, would they go "Hah! serves you right!" or something like that? Do they think that "being busy" constitutes a great person? This is a question that measures differently for each person, isn't it? Even if someone has only one thing to do a given day wether he is "busy" or "not busy" is up to how that person feels, his ability to manage his time and ability to cope with it. It's one the boring subjects that pops up during conversations between people. "being busy"... pfft. That's why I will never tell them wether Sheryl Nome is busy or not. I'll answer with a smile "Don't worry! Everything is like usual." Well, if I spend too much time "like usual", I'll start too lose track of my body's inner voice. (then there's a line that appears kinda corrupt, wondering if my browser's acting up) ... makes you feel kinda sluggish, doesn't it. My whole body. Is it because I slept nude? I'll go to the beauty-parlor this afternoon. (Again two corrupted lines, but they more than likely say "Sheryl" and the date of this blog entry)

Oh now that is just cruel! T_T

Well, that's basicly what it means, so they're just being accurate. The kanji for the resturant's name is 娘娘 (娘 meaning girl) They seemed to have gone for a chinese pronounciation when naming the resturant, (it's a china resturant afterall) which is something like Niang (at least I think, chinese aint my area) which rendered in japanese becomes something like Nyan, which to the japanese sounds like 'meow'.

I agree, not on the screen! The less superimposed text on top of the artwork vying for my attention the better, I say. Shinsen got their Fire bomber wrong? Unforgivable!

Might've been reassigned? A research fleet doesn't strike me as the prime candidate to recieve the latest in battle cruisers, but a Macross would make for an impressive flagship nontheless, I think.

While being more or less subtle about it in earlier episodes, I think they were more or less shouting it out in this episode. I mean you can all but clearly see the boy is a younger Brera during the flashback, he even has the harmonica. He also appears in the family photo crystal (again with a partly obscured face). So yes I'd say the odds of them being related are very high indeed. -
Oh, like I said, the video is hilarious but does paint what I think is a rather skewered picture of the fansubbing situation as a whole. And while the Aquarion release might have been in pretty good quality otherwise, I just couldn't get over the fact that there were at times as many as 4 different lines of text covering the screen at the same time (Whenever the main theme played, which seemed to happen every episode; 1 line for karaoke in romaji, 1 line for the karaoke in kana, 1 line for actually translating the song, and 1 line for any spoken dialouge going on in the scene) I shudder at the thought of something like that being done to frontier, which features many song heavy episodes

After having made a script of episode 13, the number of times Ranka says Alto's name (and vice versa, I might add) as a single word line really does seem to reach that number
-
Oh I have I have! It's the one where the author proceeds to show case after vase of the more horrifying examples of fansubbing the internet has to offer these days, right? While I more or less agree with everything he says, you could claim he's painting a bit of a skewed picture, since he seems to use the only the worst examples out there. (Then again, its been more than a year since I watched anything fansubbed, is everything this bad nowadays?) Anyway, the video itself becomes pure comedy in itself because of all the absurd examples. Highly entertaining watch. EDITED for grammar & stuff.

So, I was bored and with way too much time on my hands, so I decided to subtitle episode 13 of frontier myself just for the heck of it... ... No, really. Anyway, I've gone through the episode and timed down all lines and translated them (with a few, hard to hear ones still remaining as question marks though I intend to get to them, as well requiring heavy editing to make the dialouge more streamlined and what not). Anyhow reading this thread I realize most subbing groups must have several people working for them on each release (they're reffered to groups after all) instead of having one person doing everything. Not really sure where I'm going with this, but I guess I'm wondering if someone else is bored and with way too much time on their hands, and perhaps interested in giving a hand in editing? (or 'proofing' or something)... Reason I'm asking here and not in some anime subbing community is because I'm not really interested in being drafted into subbing any other shows, I plan to do only frontier. (And maybe stuff like All that VF, if at all that has spoken lines in it and comes without subs)... Anyway, I've never really subbed anything before, nor have I watched a subbed episode of frontier yet). I think someone made a comment about one group or whatnot, that while being speedy, didn't really take their time to 'get into the heads of the characters', and what people would better for this than those who, live, breathe and dream about Macross I guess what I would be aiming for would be speedy, but well done .ass scripts of the episodes as they come out; I've no ability to obtain raws on my own, and don't know how to make mkv files and the like... (But maybe someone does?) uhm... anyway, I guess that's it What say you?

That could very well be it. Makes me wonder, was it been confirmed anywhere if fold reactors (mentioned by Luca in ep 7) are the same as fold drives? Or are they maybe a type of 'engine' in the same sense as the Reaction engines? (only more powerful/advanced/whatever) That's the only way I can make sense of Luca's shocked exclamation back in episode 7. (I mean it'd be pretty durn natural for a ship that just de-folded to have a fold drive). Anyway, to get back on track. I just always assumed the VF-27 was operational in spite of the D-pulse burst because it had some counter-measures going since they knew it was coming. Since we don't know anything about the insides of it yet, anything is up to speculation, but I think its probably shock full of vajra derived tech, maybe even alternative power source that's immune to D-pulse. The vajra didn't seem very bothered by the D-pulse either, but we have no real idea when it was shut off. Of course, now I see this theory ended up backwards, if the foldoperating engines are unaffacted, and those who don't operate on it, aren't. The Ex-gear was unaffected too... ah *confused* -

Would surely make Ozma feel guilty if he ever finds out who he just offed. Find it less likely though, as they're setting up Brera and Alto as the rivals pilots of the show, the big showdown is almost definately gonna be between the two. Just wondering if both will come out alive from that one (and the one to survive will of course be Alto, would be intresting if he didn't but...) -

Given that the Vajra had a whole fleet hiding under the water, I think it is safe to assume it was Vajra related. Speaking of which, are the vajra ships alive? the big Vajra ship especially looked very organic in nature. Perhaps they use captured built vessels as skeletons and grow the Vajra ship around them? -
I'm sort of with you on that line of thinking. There's just no distinction in japanese. Why would they rename it to something that sounds exactly the same (to the target japanese audience)? Feels more like someone covering the tracks of a past mistake. But oh well.
