Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
RedWolf replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Subtle? There is only one redeeming episode. Also if Moore mined the defunk DeSanto and Singer BSG movie script for the idea of New Caprica you'll find others here. -
Quick! Does anybody have that smillie that Fukuyama is imitating?

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III

You have to realize that WGA Strike really affected the planning and quality. Plus they had to wrap up the plotlines in 22 episodes of season 4 separated by a hiatus. 1 to 12 first half, 13 to 22 second half. -

Not until the final episode where it become painfully obvious. If you happen to pass by Space Battles forum don't click the Battlestar Galactica thread. I placed a rant on the plot story progression. -
A friend gave me a link to consumer group site and look what I found. http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/Company/Harmony-Gold.aspx The reports are several years old and you probably know most of it. One of them is like an MO of the Church of Scientology when someone publicly criticizes them.

Actually there is a fan dub. I think there is only four episodes. Check Veoh.com. On another note. Does anybody remember all the names of the grunt cannon fodder squadrons of Macross 7? There is Angel squadron and Emerald Thunder as far as I know.

"Yakh Deculture!"? No wait ... "ProtoCulcha!"

Lets expose them to the Macross opening theme rendition by Yoshiki Fukuyama with a very appropriate AMV.
-
Hmm... Expose them to Fire Bomber or Fire Bomber American?

You didn't read what I wrote did you?

You're misunderstanding international copyright law. For that matter I think you never went to court ever. Court shopping to get a favorable descision over one lost often never works because a court decision with premises and evidences of the case can already influence the judges or the juries of the case. The reason why I brought up Tsuburaya vs Chaiyo is that the case of HG hampering Macross goods in the US is almost a direct fit to the actions Chaiyo Ltd did, who tried to block the international release of Ultra series by Tsuburaya Productions, claiming they own the Ultraman brand. HG vs FASA is a merchandise dispute. Same thing happened with the Jetfire Transformers toy of Hasbro. The Tokyo Court gave the IP rights to Big West and Studio Nue because they were involved in the creation of SDF Macross. Tatsunoko is a late comer in the production. (Episodes 28 to 36) Tatsunoko also has minor production credit to DYRL. On those the court granted merchandising rights to Tatsunoko for only SDF Macross TV (the cartoon, and merchandise outside Japan) and DYRL (toys merchandise only). The character designs, mecha designs and storyline belong to Big West. By the same logic Big West does not have the IP rights to Southern Cross because it is the creation of Tatsunoko's sister studio Amonite. Thus if we go to the logical conclusion the license which HG obtained is only applicable to the SDF Macross TV cartoon/merchandise and DYRL merchandise. HG does not have any legal right to the Macross IP rights or any of its derivative works. If push came to shove Big West could file a lawsuit against HG for profiteering over their Macross property. The TokyoPop Macross 7 Trash manga US release where HG got a underserved credit is a clear one. Blocking Big West other Macross merchandise is another. For the moment Big West does not have the same drive of protectiveness of their IP rights as Tsuburaya Productions when it comes internationally.
-
I suggest you read up Tsuburaya vs Chaiyo over the Ultraman franchise. The court battle went for years Tsuburaya still won in courts of both China and Thailand. In copyright cases prior court decisions do bear weight. The Berne Convention and the World Intellectual Property Organization Copyright Treaty make it unlikely for a court decision to be overturned by another court. Thing is countries are not isolationist islands they do have treaties and trade agreements.

Nope just clarifying your initial observations of the thread are off base. It's not about piling on the Robotech fan. I just summarized the entire thread in its entirety for you. HG basically as a corporate entity is dying a slow death because of its archaic business model. Their only hope to survive is the Live Action Movie and do a reboot of the franchise. As stated it has a dwindling fan base. (That is if the studio doesn't screw them and don't make it at all.) Take Hasbro for example. It has been in tight spots in the past but has grown and survived because it reinvents its properties, such as Transformers. Also Hasbro maintained a good relationship with its Japanese partner Takara, later as Tomy-Takara. This was the same company HG sued for the VF-1/Jetfire toy. TF fans becoming parents pass their hobby passion to their children. You don't see that in the Robotech franchise as with every attempt at a sequel goes kaput. Name recognition is also relevant. nBSG for example got its start because of the interest to revive the franchise into a movie by Tom De Santo and Bryan Singer. That didn't pan out because of 9-11 but Ron Moore took the opportunity generated and created a hard sci-fi re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica instead of a continuation of the 1978 series. Now there is talk that Glen Larson, the original producer of Battlestar Galactica, is planning a movie. Robotech name recognition becomes less and less as the years go by without a definite revival of the franchise. In short HG's incompetence is its downfall.

Memo while you're here I'll say this for the sake of simple net ethics and my squinting eye. "Type normally"

You're right... You don't know squat about what the thread is about. Go to the very first page of this thread you'll get the facts. If you didn't notice a lot who posted here are and were Robotech fans. The difference between here and Robotech.com forum you can speak you're mind and back up your argumentation with documented facts. HG has time and again shown bad business practices. Like stopping Macross imports. Even if it is plain as day they do not own the Macross franchise they act as if they do. Not to say the least its founder CEO Frank Agrama was at least charged in Italy for Tax Fraud, embezzlement, and false accounting. Worst HG does not have a spark of creativity. When things go sour HG blame others than taking responsibility in their Robotech franchise. Their customer service as said by Robotech fans sucks. Another example of insincerity towards fans is allowing some unworthy people to be moderators in their official forums. This ruins their corporate image further. Also on another front HG also tries to profit from somebody else's production by threat of lawsuit such as with Mech Warrior 5/IGN fiasco. Fortunate this not 4chan's /m/. Where if someone posts Robotech they are torn to shreds.

Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
RedWolf replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My take on Terra (Though it is another name for Earth) is that it is a lost colony. Terrans also have their own colonies and ships. But not comparable to Colonials or Cylons. Also this a take on the Cold War and MAD. With the Nationalists as the West and the Eastern Alliance as the Soviet equivalent. Yeah since Saga of the Star World the civilian governments are portrayed as weak if it goes for a peace settlement. Enemies are not to be trusted mentality. In the real world it is not that simple minded. Even opposing governments and factions go in negotiations. The Galactica is a Dues Ex Machina taking down the nuclear missiles. As is the Ship of Lights. The Ship of Lights are portrayed as some mysterious ascended beings. With Iblis as some fallen angel , who had a hand in the extinction of the original reptile Cylon race and the creation of the mechanical Cylons. Oh if you're interested there is a Battlestar Galactica 1980 reimagined series comic out now. What is so differrent about it? Two words... Dr. Gaius Zee. Oh Felgercarb! Nah Just Tigh... Colonel Tigh. An aged Boomer replaces him as XO in Battlestar Galactica 1980. oBSG Colonials don't have last names. But if 1980 is to go by they do change their names come adulthood. -

Thus "Frak you" and "You're not my type" takes an entirely new meaning. Now that you've watched it here are my sfx nitpicks. Firstly the Galactica type and the Valkyrie types. They are too big in the Scorpion Shipyard scene. Valkyrie mesured 1200 meters. While the Galactica type got bulkier than the Pegasus. Another is the inconsistencies in the Berzerk class escort. According to Charles Oines of Irrational Designs porfolio the ship dubbed Berzerk class escort is 842 meters. The supervising director upsized it beside the Pegasus while leaving the rest in. http://www.irrationaldesigns.com/Samples/Berzerk_Orthos.jpg http://www.irrationaldesigns.com/Samples/Berzerk_1.jpg http://www.irrationaldesigns.com/Samples/Berzerk_2.jpg http://www.irrationaldesigns.com/Samples/Berzerk_3.jpg http://www.irrationaldesigns.com/Samples/Berzerk_4.jpg On the Battlestars we get that the Galactica type may not be standardly built. As with the Columbia. On Basestars we see the original double saucer Basestar. Much like its successor it is a missile attack ship. We also see the precurssor to the double Y Basestar with the Guardian basestar. These baseships launch Centurion piloted raiders. On another note the double Y basestars notice since Collaborators they've changed the render. This is a recon. The original look carrying a capacity of 864 Raiders while the newer render 434 Raiders. These are based on available slots. -

Given that Razor Flashback episodes 1 and 2 aren't in the DVD help yourself. Razor Flashback 1 Razor Flashback 2 You'll see in Razor and Razor Flashback that Galactica was the naked odd duck among her fellow class. RDM said in a podcast the ribs were always there and she didn't need additional armor smooth armor. Apparently designed to take on nukes. My favorite of the Razor Flashback webisodes was a glimpse of a full blown Colonial-Cylon War without the cheating CNP backdoors. -
Yeah well as said they have different producers. Macross II is an entirely Big West venture. Macross Plus, Macross 7, Macross Zero and Macross Frontier had Studio Nue and Shoji Kawamori coming back. Of course they would go a different direction.

Originally the plan for Boxey was for him to play son to Chief Tyrol as father and Boomer as mother. Good thing daggit wasn't included in the dialogue. Felgercarb wasn't good enough as a curse word. Speaking of Felgercarb watch . The diector's cut is here. -
Battlestar Galactica Discussion III
RedWolf replied to kaiotheforsaken's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Remember this was a series in reaction to Star Wars. Pretty much like Knight Rider 2008 KITT after the Transformer movie, with KARR as a robot with Peter Cullen's voice. Battlestar Galactica had a lot of goofs like what is a galaxy. Oh yeah if you're going to watch Razor don't trust the ship sizes in one scene. A lot of inconsistencies in that shot. These are the more less correct sizes of the Colonial Fleet. Galactica - 1438.64 m Length, 536.84m Width, 183.32m Height Pegasus (Mercury Class)- 1789.8 m Length Valkyrie – around 700 m length (Based on Viper tube sizes and The Plan) Berzerk Escort - 842 m Length, 215m Width, 118 m Height (Irrational Design numbers) Think of the Galactica and Pegasus like the Macross class and Battle class of the Colonial Fleet, without the Macross cannons. While the other two as ARMDs, Urugas, Northamptons, Guantanamos and Stealth Cruisers. The Valkyrie closer to a mini-battlestar an analog would be the Macross Quarter. Battlestar 1980 had Boxey named Troy. Some 20 years after the original series. It's only saving grace was the Starbuck episode.
