  1. You have to admit though, Toynami or not, that this does look much better than the old Gakken 1/55 3-mode transformable. I'll reserve any further judgement until I can see one in person .
  2. Thank you, sage Jawa, for the information May I be the first to cry and have a fit about it then?
  3. Thanks for the answer, shin. In that case, I have another question: Why is there a very tight retention mechanism for the swingbar/armature, if it is intended to be fit loose? I'm wondering, because on my [now departed] 1/48, I was not able to rotate the waist joint *at all* with the swingbar engaged... What am I missing (besides the obvious )?
  4. I've a quick question here, semi-OT: What purpose does the Yamato 1/48 VF-1 nose/waist rotation point have, when the leg armature (swingbar-dealie which snaps into nose cavity) prevents its use in battroid mode? I'm genuinely curious
  5. For comparison, here's a couple of single seaters...
  6. Here's a more or less side-on shot... *Edit - sorry, I don't have a digicam handy at the moment, so I can't take any requests I do have a couple other pics though.
  7. I don't have the VE, but here's a side-by-side of the 1D and VT. The ID nose is just ever so slightly longer by about 3mm. At the same time, the canopy of the VT is recessed about 2-3mm further back into the fuselage.
  8. That's just INSANELY cool. Awesome. The addition of the music is great. I run short of superlatives... Kawamori would be proud

    Yamato display stand?

Earlier versions of the stand, with different clamps, were shown supporting Yammie 1/72s, so it may be possible to use it for darn near anything, within reason that is .
  10. In episode 1, during the slow motion sequence when Hikaru's comandeered VF-1D crashes through Minmei's wall, you can see a little plush rabbit doll fly from the top of Minmei's dresser. The rabbit's face turns into the Studio Nue "Chimera" as it flies toward the camera, mouth and eyes opening wide in surprise (similar to the scowling Chimera seen during "Hikaru's First Kill"). Has anyone else noticed that one? It occurs at roughly 28:45 to 29:33, depending upon which version of discs you're watching (I'm watching some old Japanese [Tokuma Shoten] licensed VCD's, in which it occurs at ~29:32).
  11. Best I can recollect, it was a spaceborne retelling of Homer's Odyssey. Pretty cool show back in the day.

    1/48-1/60

All of the previous posts are pretty much correct. Your best bet is to order or handle one of each, and then make your own decision. Strictly going by the say-so of other members is to ask for disappointment - please don't ask me how I know this

    Scale photo gallery

Wacky picture or not, I love that one. It's terrible . [Attempting to lend some legitimacy to the post] So, what scale does the cat work out to if the valk is 1/60?
  14. Got a quick question here, regarding DYRL: At the end of the movie, after the destruction of Bodolza, Vrlitai and Exedol make reference to the thousands of mobile fortresses still in existance around the galaxy. My question is, are all of these Bodolza and Lapramiz class fortresses, or are there other mobile fortress classes [meaning not controlled by clones of Bodolza / Lapramiz]? Or is there an answer to this at all?
  15. Ditto that, Wes.
  16. Sure, I've noticed it. I'd expect that the barrel must swing briefly down and then up again as the landing gear deploys. Wouldn't be too difficult to automate. Either that, or all of our toys/models are inaccurate enough to make this a problem. Discuss
  17. Yup, I remember them too, as does everyone else here . Actually, the Revell kits were my first exposure to Valks and anime mecha in general, prior to the [R-word] show being aired in the US. I think I must have owned / built nearly all of those things back in the day. Happily, they also turned me on to other import mecha kits that were hitting the shelves around that time, so I got to build lots of real Orguss, Dougram and Dorvack models... As far as galleries/pictures go, you should be able to find quite a bit with a Google image search. Good Luck!
  18. Graham, I thought the same thing when I saw it. It's called the "Wise Duck". Wise Duck Page
  19. Thanks for the great info daeudi. However, I still kind of prefer 'Lava-Moth' - I'm looking forward to July, when I can point out the 'Lava-Moths' to everyone
  20. There's some info available on the webpage Azrael cited. It appears to be related to a 1998 Capcom title. Here's a blurb courtesy BabelFish (bracketed comments are mine): "The large hit animation "super spatial-temporal fortress マクロス [Macross]" series was managed That river Mori Siyouzi & the studio sew [studio Nue?], カプコン united the powerful tag! Now ultimate robot legend starts here! ! River Mori Siyouzi & the studio sew in plan original idea, You say to mechanical design river Mori Siyouzi and the Miyatake one your person The animation boundary highest creator is appointed, The appearance impression and the robot of animation the pleasant sensation which freely is worked was held The ultimate robot game was made to complete! " There's a page with some technical info on the mecha (which appears to be a modification of the VA-3), and lots of talk of 'Lava-Moths' and 'cancer/guns' there too. Have fun!
  21. Count me in for both. I'd also be down for either or.
  22. Great workmanship! Quick question: Are the kites on the sides of the fuselage painted or decalled? If those are decals, they are the kind
  23. 1:48 as a scale is also nice. Too bad the look and proportions of Yamato's 1:48 line is whack
  24. I'd have to agree with Azrael on this one - I'd stake good money that there are no hand inked cels in the entire production of M0, and I'd go as far as saying there's probably not much that's even hand drawn. But, that seems to be the direction the whole industry is moving... Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the series, even though I'm not a big fan of the character design or character graphical execution.
  25. You are correct that the surface temp is relatively cold on Mars. The catch is that they can't perform any of the hard work at night, as it would quickly deplete the batteries (the solar arrays supply much of the operating current). They pretty much have to run it while it's "hot" out, and let it "sleep" during Martian night. Regardless, it wouldn't matter much how well it's vented to the outside, because they are so jam-packed together inside - the transmitters/receivers/buses/CPUs likely can't be made much smaller than they already are, and their proximity limits thermal and electronic efficiency. Remember that the engineers had to adhere to a strict size/weight/mass target for everything to work as planned, and that likely rules out very complex cooling solutions (no Pelt coolers for Spirit's CPUs ). Remember that electronics need a minimum temperature to operate safely as well, and that would preempt any kind of outer surface mounting scheme or constant direct ventilation. Here's to hoping that Opportunity fares better!
