The question is not why Battle 7 transforms, is why they didn't ever make a transformable toy of it! There's nothing worse for a mecha than potential toys wasted. FV

So you want cool, deep and epic and hate whatever denies the sheer thought of trying to achieving them? You demanding bastard! Btw, I viewed the show as a funny one and enjoyed it more than some serious shows where everyone has its chance to hop into the robot and get killed. There's plenty of ways for stupid deaths in anime. This doesn't mean 7 is perfect, or nearly perfect, or half perfect. It has its flaws, but the jokes were just intended to be jokes. FV

Windows Media Player 9 can grab a screenshot with Ctrl+i. This is useful since printscreen usually doesn't work with movies. FV

I don't remember the exact site where I took these infos, but here they are: The Japanese fascination with blood type is said to date back to a 1916 Japanese medical report that stated that blood type was an influence on one's personality. It's said that the report determined that type A blood reflected a mild-mannered, intellectual personality while a B type was typical of an aggressive, rambunctious personality. Perhaps not coincidentally, type A is the most common blood type among Japanese natives. Although personality characteristics determined by blood type has no more scientific basis than personality determined by astrological sign, Japanese superstition does still place weight on blood type as a signifier of character. In an effort to give anime characters more depth of characterization, may creators will imbue characters with not only an age, hobby, birth date, measurements, weight, hair and eye color, but also a blood type. Blood type compatibility even comes up occasionally in anime. Kodomo no Omocha occasionally uses blood type to help distinguish personality, and Gainax's Ebichu the hamster television shorts include a joke about blood type compatibility between lovers. According to Japanese supposition: Type A personality is calm, studious and disciplined; outwardly serious and hesitant to express emotion. Type B personality is exuberant and cheerful, active and inclined toward dabbling in many areas, although not focusing too heavily on any single thing. Type O personalities are peaceful and ambivalent, strong-willed, but always willing to be flexible and friendly. Type AB personalities are delicate and considerate to others, but strict and serious with themselves.

I am not American, but I've heard something frightening about what Fox actually aired: http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Ta.../6785/esca.html I've heard though they aired the show a second time, and then they just cut some gore, it even had the first episode. FV

Btw, anyone else noticed how difficult is to actually see in animes a robot directly killing people without robots, like in Macross Zero 3? I watched Char's Counterattack and it was the same: they came close to killing a harmless person, but couldn't pass the line. That's why in a typical mecha anime all the evil bosses have their robots, otherwise they can't be killed by the hero FV

If the Valks are painted black, that would
Final Vegeta replied to vanpang's topic in Movies and TV Series
Pink? Purple? I didn't think Varuta's army was that stealth Btw, someone complained VF-0 didn't make enough noise for conventional engines. In fact low noise seems to be one of the features of stealth. FV -
What other reasons could exist that would justify building giants robots other than having seeing animes at youth age? (btw, Macross Zero has some nice ideas ) FV

It's a general rule and as every rule it does have its exceptions. It works better for shows more aimed to children. Something on the line "mechas with wings are more powerful than mechas without wings" and "white wins against red" (white and red are Japanese for chess white and black). Btw, in DYRL regults were green, IIRC. FV

Good guys have white and primary colours (yellow, red and blue). Baddies have black and secondary colours (green, purple and orange). It would be amazing to see if robots were to be built in real world how they would be affected by years and years of merchandising children aimed. FV

New Shoji Kawamori Anime Announced
Final Vegeta replied to jgrose's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Maybe this thing is actually questioned in the show. And maybe the show is aware of current problem but not preachy like Arjuna. Kawamori wrote "Earth Defense Family", which should be a parody of sentai shows, and AFAIK it didn't have ecological themes. To me the answer is yes. What made Valkyries attractive to me is the real world planes design elements. Macross II's Valkyries look just like generic space planes, and the increasing number of guns on the other mechas is just too freudian for me. What I have to say: You got Macross Plus and then there was Macross 7. You got Macross Zero and then there is Aquarian. I like Macross 7, but I think many will be disappointed by Aquarian. Since it's not Macross thankfully I won't hear too much complains here. In Japan TV series are almost always meant for little boys, Aquarian seems to follow the trend. OVAs don't sell that much anymore. TV has obvious limits, though, even if I still think the real deal for a writer comes when he can't kill characters. Anyway, you got the serious mecha fan anime OVAs and now you will have a cheesy mecha series for character fans, just more mature than the others (and maybe with subliminal messages for growing children. Kawamori don't make animes just for fun). The real painer for me it is the format. 52 episodes typically mean crappy animation due to budget restraint, but I hope Kawamori can get motivated animators. As long as it is original, I will be happy about Aquarian. Just wish Kawamori one day will make a cross-over of all his mechas (but obviously there are copyrights interpherences) FV -
Valk's engines..important question.
Final Vegeta replied to Lightning's topic in Movies and TV Series
I've heard even the YF-23 didn't have a straight airflow, but they have a twist (which someway speeded up the plane). Anyway, if it has morphings wings it may just have morphing ducts as well. But I think it is simply like leg articulation in GERWALK (plus a stretching for fighter mode). FV -
It was me, and I still think they are B-2s. See the screenshot below. People were foolished just because they miss the editing. From the way it was drawn, maybe it was just a protective diaphragm (looks like it can close). Or maybe the rifling aids the insulation of the barrel. But I understand this is over-stretching FV

You can get even Sivil (the ultimate dodging unit) and Gavil (with Grabil attacks). Too bad there is few pilots, you can choose having Diamond Force either on the VF-17s or on the VF-19s, not both. And there aren't any pilots left for the Full Armored VF-11C. The Sound Force is used to boost stats (and to attack Protodevilns). Not really something you see in the series, but it works greatly in this game. I managed to start my first 7 rounds adding 70 points to EACH stats of ALL pilots. The VF-17T Kai repairs HP and EN and has two pilots. I think it is the best supporting unit, like Macross 7 is the best mothership. Too bad there weren't enough pilots to win the game using only Macross 7's units FV

Shin will lose as long as he will unable to understand his opponent's heart. This will make a big final climax. Btw, anyone noticed Roy in ep. 2 told Shin there was a old saying about pilots who stare the sea at night and end up swallowed by it? This is exactly what happened, or maybe Shin is really supposed to see the bottom of the sea. Knowing Kawamori, a Macross Zero movie edition is possible. And I would be glad if it was all CG. FV

Gundam's vulcans actually are 60mm. However, it is *theorically* easier for a smaller bullet to penetrate an armor (like a needle). APFSDS bullets use a large base for higher propulsion, but the actual long rod penetrator has a smaller caliber than the bullet. For a projectile, what is important is speed and mass. To achieve a great speed you need essentially a long barrel. Gundam's vulcans have nearly no barrel at all, and even Zaku's MG is not that long for the caliber it has. FV

Finally got to watch Mac 0, my 1st impressions

Well, the ones doing carpet bombing were actually B-2s... FV -

You didn't catch the glowing glyph Maybe there is a hidden miniaturized thermonuclear reactor with anti-gravity device inside those stones, or maybe it is just an overtechnology paint that did that FV -
Wasn't someone supposed to cough the name "Macross Plus"? FV

They use FAST Packs because of fuel, not because they couldn't reach space on their own. You only need to reach a certain speed to go into space, and Valkyries are faster than real world planes that could do that. About weight, you need to recheck Compendium: VF-1 Mass empty: 13250 kg Max T-O mass: 37000 kg There's plenty of weight you can load on a Valkyrie. Now that I think, you can't reload a gunpod with both hands employed. But this is somewhat stretching. 200 rounds for the VF-1, IIRC. In the second episode Roy destroyed a Regult with his lasers, it was a quotation of Gundam. I've never said anything like that. You are right, that's why I think war movies suck. I am saying that, as a movie story, a character getting killed by a deus ex machina stormtrooper is pretty lame. I wish movies have something reality not always has: a sense. If I wanted reality of war, I would have become a soldier. FV

questions about Macross DYRL and Zero
Final Vegeta replied to sidearmsalpha's topic in Movies and TV Series
Another difference between TV and DYRL is the hands FV -
Yes, and the VF-1 is shielded to protect against that. EMP shielding, laser coating... what else a Valkyrie got? Nanashi, could you make a page in your site about these things, please? FV
-
In the final episodes of Macross 7 there were Valkyries with two guns. With the power of a Valkyrie, weight wouldn't be that much trouble (unless it is a VF-0). I'll take it just as a stylistic choice, like the one that dictated that Valkyries shouldn't use that much their energy weapons. Other than that, I think it is useful having armor to protect the joint on one side. As long as Kawamori is involved Macross 7 for istance had glowing sensors, lack of fuses and a too high missiles endurance. These have never been Kawamori staples, clearly. I like Escaflowne for that thing. For a technologically limited world without fire powder, a human shaped mecha with that kind of control sets seems the best option. I agree with what you say about limitations, but I didn't like evangelions because the limitations were kinda faked... when eva-01 exhausted its battery, either it had already won the battle or it went berserker. What makes valks (and whatever mecha) interesting in my mind is that they need to avoid being hit. This really give an edge to piloting skills. It's not like they lacked heavy firepower, they simply have realistic armor. Macross' use of missiles is like a sword fight, where the most experienced pilot wins, not like in a gun fight where there could be a lucky hit. FV

List your top ten Anime/OVA/other of all time!
Final Vegeta replied to 91WhiskeyM6's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Escaflowne above anything else, although the movie sucks (I sense little Kawamori in it). Then the other Kawamori's works, from SDF Macross to Arjuna. Other than Kawamori, Medarot (Medabot), a the only good pokemon-like anime, Fushigi no Umi no Nadia, Future Boy Conan, Gundam 0079 (but i have mixed feeling about this because is a mecha rival for Kawamori's animes )... I remember I liked Transformers G1 a lot, but now I have outgrown several animes. FV
