I believe the two VF-31's currently available (J and F) are the same figure except for markings and the head. The F is cheaper and can be had on mandarake or yahoo auctions for around 220 USD shipped. Heres one at mandarake for around 210 USD if you ship SAL and use a CC with no foreign transaction fees: https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1067892617&ref=list

The spartan is a great little figure. It's quite heavy for the size and includes a lot of detail. I think you'll enjoy it when it finally arrives.

1/48 VJ-1J Hikaru x 4 (2 Deluxe, 2 Regular) 1/48 VF-1A Cannon Fodder x 3 VF-31J x 3 YF-30 x 3 I have doubles of a bunch of others but I make a concerted effort to stop buying a particular unit once I have 3 of them. It's tough because I browse Yahoo auctions a lot and it hurts to pass on a good deal lol

Nippon Yassan tends to be cheaper. You can combine orders that are not yet paid. Hobby Link Japan is a little more expensive and you can also store items in your Personal Warehouse for 60 days. Ami Ami is decent but they offer less shipping options. You can only combine by release month. Anime Export is also decent and you can store your stuff for a while before shipping. I believe BBTS is quite expensive when compared to any of the above, and you already know that they do not sell macross items.

It's always better to preorder items that you may be interested in. I wouldn't recommend staying up until 3am mashing the F5 key but if you can get in a PO then do it. You can always sell it if you decide not to keep it. If you miss the PO it's not the end of the world. You will just have to pay an extra 20-30% after release.

They used to have that set at jungle for 54000 but it looks like it sold. I planned to buy it soon but never pulled the trigger. Somebody out there loves the 1/48s as much as I do -

VF-31J Super Parts 7250 JY, cheaper than NY PO using From Japan proxy (no coversion fee). Still have to pay domestic shipping but still a nice buy for whomever snagged it. -
Orguss figures would be sweet. Those megahouse releases look awesome but so damn spendy!

Ah so tempted to pick this up but I don't have the time or modeling chops to make it look decent. Sweet lookin bird!

Hmmmm, not a M2 fan but it looks like a neat little figure. 15120 for a 1/100 VF is pushing it though.

Yamato 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru Weathering 50000 Yen -
This was the first movie theatre experience for my 3 year old and he really enjoyed it. I thought it was entertaining and didn't mind playing the bluray for him once a day (for a couple weeks) after it was released hahaha

Solo: A Star Wars Story, in theaters May 25, 2018
spacemanoeuvres replied to Dobber's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Agreed. Its a damn shame because the Star Wars universe and mythology is a wonderful backdrop for a competent storyteller. Look at the the way the Marvel universe was used in "Logan" and "Legion" for example. Not perfect stories by any stretch but I found them to be very interesting takes on the characters and very entertaining to boot! -

At least Lucas isn't directing them anymore haha I loved the original trilogy as a kid but I have to say upon rewatching only empire seemed like a moderately good film (IMHO). Star Wars and Return did not hold up well and the prequels were god awful. TFA and RO were just okay so I'm not super excited about the expanded universe. Hope it's good but...meh -
Looks great. I'm always impressed seeing the 31 in battroid mode with all that weight on the back. Hip joints must be sturdy as heck! I still haven't received my super parts but hopefully they will arrive soon.

Would def pickup a 1/30-1/35 VF-1 or two.
-
I don't have any experience with them. Maybe someone else will chime in. If you miss out on the preorder you should still be able to grab one from NY or yahoo auctions after release. From Japan and Zen Market don't charge crazy fees like some other proxy's.
