Beagle? CMs? Hmmmm. Know doubt its been a tough year. But this idea for Yamato Destroids will HELP them move unsold stock with a small investment of tooling up some walls and boom system for a 4 part chain base / repair bay. If LEDs or gimmicks would push the 1 destroid, 1 base part package over $99 then they can skip the lights and whatever it takes to make it profitable in this environment. Not only that, but they would have no obligation for part 3 until they see how the first 2 parts did. If they do make enough from parts 1 and 2 and the Phalanx is doable for part 3 -- whoever gets part 3 will go back and get parts 1 and 2 - they won't be able to resist completing the base once they get their mits on it. SO - 1,500* units moved of each 1 AND 2 based on fans loving the chain base and hoping for the Phalanx in part 3 -- and 1,000* more moved of 1 and 2 after part 3 is released from all the completists who stalled but now can't resist pulling the trigger on getting the first 2 base sections (*figures pulled from nowhere just for the fun of it to try to sound more official) ----------- Yamato has already exhausted color variations for the Tomahawk and Defender. They won't move anymore without a new hook in place . . .

Is the Red Circle on the leg pointing out Macross City detail? Or the concert hall even?

Great to know. Just checked though and it looks like I don't have the $178 bucks to spend right now. If I did this might be one of my first 'panel lined', weathered and stickered up ventures. I would remove the tail fins, try to lower the beta's orange bomb rack down into the unit, add some missiles to the beta wings and only display it in the famous pose of my avatar. Otherwise it would just plain bug me too much to display with all its flaws . . .

If you mainly display your toys than Toynami is the way to go. If you zoom them around or let your kids get a hold of them CMs seems the obvious choice. That guy has $45 shipping charge as well which puts this beyond my ability to rationalize. I have never ordered from Hong Kong ebayers - has everyone done this with no trouble?

OK - I have an idea that is right up Yamato (and a few other companies - like CMs) alley. We fans must sacrifice to get our hands on what we want, even if it's not 'fair'. And its a strategy that many complain about - no SCREAM ABOUT - all the time, so brace yourselves; Yamato develops a 4 part 1/60 chain base, awesome, home run, with leds and the works like a few fans have made here in this forum. Essentially your dream repair bay in 4 sections (can u guess where this is going yet?). They release the Tomahawk with part 1 (for around $99.99) to can rid of stock and buy time, the Defender with part 2 - and by this Christmas they might be able to do the Phalanx with part 3. Each should also come with one vehicle and 2 or 3 crew (crain, missle truck, fuel truck etc). If things only get worse with the economy, and it might, Yamato could always do the Olive drab versions of the Tomahawk and Defender for part 3 and 4. But we all know the sales would be 10% what they would be with the all new Phalanx and Spartan. Win Win.

Why in the world did CMs need to make the tail fins that long? Call me crazy, but if I was the designer I would first find out how long the forearms are and THEN make the fins a little shorter than that! And they could have made the nose cone shorter with no drawbacks as well I think . . .

B U M M E D I thought we crazy Macross fans would spend our freakin gas and milk money on a new destroid - recession be darned. Guess not. Gives me time to save for the eventual weathered Phalanx and Spartan -- and the Fuke Red Ride Armor -- when the global economy turns around . . . (if it does)

Great review, as always. I am still interested, especially since I never invested in an original (so no unwanted duplicate to deal away). Will watch e-bay I guess. It would never be in fighter mode, and NEVER be in 'linked-up fighter mode' on my shelf . . .

I know what you're saying. But part of me was hoping that if Yamato deemed the Tomahawk and Defender sales too little they might try to include a 'full ground crew" or "missile truck" or "maintenance bay" with the Phalanx to boost sales instead of just killing the line. So say the Phalanx came with Part 1 of a 3 Part chain base / repair bay - do you think its sales would surpass the Tomahawk's? This would take them some extra time to work out and develop, hence the long wait (or so I hope) . . .

I did not know the Phalanx was OFFICIALLY on hold. It sure seems like it - but do we have confirmation? b u m m e r . . .

Recently got the novel "The Road" and flew through it in 2 days over Christmas break. I felt shaken and could not stop thinking about it for about a week. Gripping - highly recommended. But then I saw some movie clips on the web and wish I had never laid eyes on them. Not at all what I pictured. It looked like a rough camping trip compared to the utter bleakness and devastation I imagined while reading the book. All the actors should have been soaked in a vat of black brine prior to shooting and maybe do the whole thing in something very close to black and white. The book, the book, the book . . .

I went to that link thinking it was going to be the worst thing I ever laid my eyes on - and ya know . . . It wasn't bad looking! Leeum Neison as Hannibal! That was the best part. Iron Man II is theater worthy . . . this will be more of a renter . . .

I don't know how to even respond to this. An original 1/60 scale Monster is kind of my dream collectable. I would have to sell a kidney or something because I probably could not go beyond $600 or $700. Or at least I would have a very hard time enjoying my dream collectable paying that giant 'SDF $2,300' amount . . .

What are the words you don't want to hear in a sci-fi show?

But they HAVE TO drill into the core cuz . . . "it's the only chance we've got!" -

Not sure about 'serious and mature' but when I compare the original Destroid Monster to the new transforming MF Monster I find myself liking the original so much more. There was something more tank-like and as strange-as-it-might-sound, 'realistic' about the original. With the new one my gut feeling (something I can't get around) says there would be no need for such a giant robot mode when you have the much faster super valks. They wouldn't spend the money or whatever to make it a variable fighter. And the design looks like a Go-bot from the 80s which doesn't help me like it either. I don't really like the original giant SDF but I can rationalize it a bit since it was more of an accidental appearance rather that a purposeful giant robot that they ended up making use of. That's a stretch though I know. BUT -- I don't want to be one of those guys thinking too hard about this stuff and taking all the fun out of it either . . . -
Cool - Looking forward to those reviews. I'm interested in getting all you mentioned, eventually. Budget will not allow it at the moment. I know the drone excluded the pop-up missile pods which floors me - and may deter me from ever buying. Want the figure sets but have never got the CMs cycles to go with them, guess that's their ploy. I will stay tuned . . .

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series

Huh - interesting. Does anyone have a reason for the movie being so clunky and dry? No matter though, thanks for the tips. i will try to rationalize getting the series on DVD . . .- 1217 replies

With so many series being redone or re-imagined its still not out of the question. Please, come with me for a moment into blind optimism: Someone could be coming of age (or into power) right now that loved Mospeada and is just waiting to pull the trigger on a full fledged prequel series! GREAT IDEA. This would also avoid any entanglements with Shadow Chronicles or Shadow Rising, if that matters to anyone at all. The 'prequel world' of Mospeada could include Jim and Yellow, as well as all new characters from the failed first invasion. The mecha would be a bit more of a challenge as some of the coolest bits had not been invented yet. But someone will think up some cool mechs that we just didn't 'happen to see' in the original series . . .

I'm a MF newbie but I can't get over this design. I like much of what we call Macross designs but not this one. Not sure a full robot mode is realistic or mildly practical. Maybe more of a Gerwalk mode with thrusters on all sides to be more maneuverable for quick turns while the cruiser is for more straight forward / long distance travel. I gauge my emotions on whether or not I would want to show another adult sci-fi fan something. I would want to avoid the MQ. I can just hear them saying - "You mean the ship they're in turns into a robot too?" I know the original series featured this but it came off as more by chance, without such a distinct samurai looking robot mode. Have I yet to see a MF clip where the hands are useful and combat realistic? Seems kind of silly to have it holding the aircraft carrier portion to me. No Poo-Pooing those who love this - just sharing thoughts for feedback . . . -
I would say the series had about 35% stupid content. But no matter, the characters and mecha have a special place in my heart that a few stupid episodes can't undo. Kind of like a fishing trip when you're young where you see your first giant snapping turtle. You may have not caught any fish that day but you remember the cool part. As far as a second series and how that might have gone - I'd say odds are very badly. Going from Alien to Aliens is a DARN rare thing (great to even better). I would have loved to see a second series done in the right hands but 'right hands' are so hard to come by . . . (ie shadow chronicles)

Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series
DarrinG replied to BoBe-Patt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My 8 year old son and I have seen a few episodes and have become fans. So I just got the Clone Wars movie and bluray and feel a little disappointed so far. The writing is worst than usual and it just feels clunky. Does anyone have insight on this? Can the series actually be better than a movie? Should my next step be to get the first series on DVD or jump to a later series?- 1217 replies

Very interesting stuff in those envelopes -- most of which I found myself saying "Thank God they didn't end up with that!" As for the SC Samurai World that never was; they make more sense of why the characters had pretty elaborate battle armor designs while much of the rest of the series was badly designed. Logan? Or whatever the heck that thing was. Would like to see those prelim sketches (Oh wait - that's what they went with). The original SC artist prob busted his heart and tail to make a complete samurai world only to have the 'suits' come in and say he had to include giant transforming tanks - oh and throw in a plane too cuz "those are hot toys". The hover 'cyclones' were a hoot. What a relief that they ended up with the Tread and Legioss we know today. And I also think we might be better off the series did not go on. --- Can anyone relate to that? That Mospeada is frozen in time and not messed all up in successive releases? If they were done well I would be all for it - but how often does that happen?
