There was the scene at the end of episode 7 I think that show Brera's -27 and one other without fold packs mounted. Not the best pic but too lazy to find a good one, sorry. -

Off of the running topic right now but I had an idea and would like your thoughts. The VF-27 has a internal fold system right? The only place that I could see it being mounted would be in the dorsal area of the VF. If that is the case then could the VF-25 also be outfitted with the same system at some point? Given the way that that section of the VF doesn't really change in any mode you could even see something along the lines of a dorsal spine like the one added to some F-16s for more room for added systems at later dates, they were already able to add the radar system for the RVF there so I think that this is possible, what do you guys think? -
Thanks to d3v for that lineart but now I have a question, are these Dulfim class ships as well that are shown in the last battle? I think it was talked about where or not there were other ships from the Galaxy fleet but I can't for the life of me remember where. If these are Galaxy's ship it does raise more questions on how many were working with or for Grace and Co. and other things along the lines.

I had asked Mr March about the hardpoints in the Macross Mecha Manual a few days ago here -

By any chance are you a fan of Scrapped Princess? Although the definition of dragoon does seem to if the concept of VF's in general, I like it.

And having to place enough emitters/projectors on a craft that transforms could also be a problem.

Who was your favourite Macross Frontier character?

Okay I will stand and put a target on myself by saying that Alto is not a bad character. He's not as deep as some but I feel that he did not make many of the mistakes that are done by others. He didn't run away, he didn't cry about how he didn't want to hurt anyone and war is so unfair, and he did his best to protect the fleet. I think he gets a lot of flak due to if someone likes Ranka then they bash him for any scenes he had with Sherly, and reverse that for any Sherly shippers. So if 50% of fans like Ranka and 50% are for Sherly, does that mean that there is 100% Alto bashing? Haven't voted, but Capt'n Wilder gets points for having the brass ones to go pirate when the going gets tough. --dives into foxhole and pulls helmet down-- hey I never said how long I would stand and take fire -
cake?

There could have been both noise and deception ECM system going at the same time. With a false target generation system making for other contacts in the area the Battle Galaxy could have been 'strobing' it's stealth system, on the radar one moment and gone the next, there by making it appear to be just one of the fake targets. They did say something about the Vajra using ECM way back epi 1, didn't they? So that may also have complicated things as well.

On the topic of radars, with today's Active Electronically Scanned Array systems and allowing for the advances by Frontier's time frame I don't think it to be unreasonable that a VF might have three small arrays in the nose with two mounted on the horizontal axis facing to the left and right giving a very wide sweep angel. And if the two arrays were mounted at a slight down angel that increase the tracking area below the line of flight. Combine that with a third array mounted atop the first two giving the ability to track targets well into the vertical and you would have a radar with something close to full a hemisphere of coverage even at extreme close range. If this was the case then the top array would be in position to scan ahead of the VF while in battroid mode. Well that my theory anyways, got the idea from hearing about how the F-22s were designed to have room in the forward fuselage for side looking radar arrays, but nothing has come of it yet.

I never had thought of that to be much of a problem, I mean that the shield is most likely high grade armor in it's own right and along with the ECA system I feel that it would do just fine against most threats, but you have good points for getting the crew away from the front of the body.
-
Looking back at that at least it may have helped in making repairs, have a damaged engine or whatnot in a nacelle, just pull the whole nacelle and replace with a new one.
-
For me the most complex problem of the VF-1 was that of the engine nacelles and how they had to be moved to the nose of the VF, that always seemed to be a weak point to me, so I tend to look at that first off. And the second thing for me in the design is how the wings are stored in battroid mode. I have never liked the VF-19s all that much because of the wings but did like the rest of the transformation design. I think that the VF-25 is just about perfect in it's design, they didn't try to tuck the wings into stupid places. IMO the SV-51 has the worst design in that respect with two fold points in the wing, that would have added a fair amount of weight, not helpful as they were using turbofans still. I liked the idea of the VF-0/1's capability to keep the wings deployed in order to carry stores in all modes, (the SV-51 could do it to, right?) something I feel that the -25 should be able to do as well, if we ever get to see it. I never really have felt that one design was far more complex than another, they all have their good and bad points. And looking at each new design it's easy to see why things were done in the way that they were ( at least for the most part) as compared to some mech designs that seem to be tossed together out of a spare parts bin. I guess I like the fact that Kawamori learns from each new design and will try new things with the next, even if I don't like all of them.

IRL stealth tech is also called Low Observability Technology, meaning that it does not keep the bad guys from seeing you altogether just keeps them from seeing you longer. I'm not done with M7 (only up to 25) so I'm not sure how it is shown there but in Frontier I don't think that it was ever stated that any type of craft was operating as a stealth should. By that I mean the -171s were shown with weapons slung under the wings which would kill the LO design of the airframe, however they could get around that if they also had active stealth systems. We saw no stealth ships prowling along alone in space away from the main fleet and other things along those lines. (at least I think so) Have not seen this yet, but from what you are saying it sounds like they did not fully understand their enemy's capability. Did they know about a Spiritia detection system? And as for stealth against the Vajra I'm not sure if it was stated just how the Vajra found targets other than the whole fold wave thing. The one thing that I don't think we have seen yet since Macross took on stealth technology is how well it works against Zentradi fleets that could still pose as threats and I believe that could be a large reason as to why they keep the LO tech on hand. Also remember that it has been said that the military trains to fight the last war, maybe that's why there were speaker pods for the -25, just in case something like the Varauta showed up. I'm sure if we were to see what happens after Frontier, NUNS will be planning to fight without counting on reaction weapons due to the lack of effectiveness against the Vajra. I've talked with some people (active and retired military) who feel that the dogfights of WWII will make a comeback if everyone has stealth aircraft due to long range radars having little effect, and that brings up the topic of if radar has little use do you then get rid of them and run the risk of having the enemy use aircraft that are not stealthy but you can't see them anyways because you don't have the radar anymore. So all in all I think that stealth tech has its place in Macross, its just not the 'F-117As having free reign over Baghdad in '91' type of place. I have always liked the way in which the rate of Valkyries and tech of Macross seems to grow with each series. Hope I made at least some sense and that was not just one big ramble

I think that the Quarter would give fleets a ship that could act on it's own, maybe as a long range scout for the rest of the fleet. I get feeling that it would not need as much help from other ships, where as the Guantanamo and Uraga seem to require escorts to survive in combat. For some reason the Quarter reminds me of the escort carriers of WWII. If I had to name the class something like Macross Fast Attack Carrier would seem to fit.
-
I agree with you on that but is there reason that it could not mount a pylon when not used for FAST packs (I'm thinking that the pylon from the F-14 would look sweet right there) I have seen the twin mount for the reaction missiles, what I had seen were things like this, I was thinking that it was just a mod and not canon. Well whatever the story is I do appreciate the info from everyone, thanks
-
I'd like your input on something Mr March, so far the VF-25 is listed has having 2 hardpoints under each wing and a center line hardpoint for the cannon. But some pics of the models that I've seen would suggest that there are 4 hardpoints per wing and maybe two on the center line as we have seen that the cannon can still be mounted on the belly in gerwalk ever with the arms deployed. Also on the topic of hardpoints, what's up with the VF-1 being depicted as having three hardpoints per wing sometimes? Would just like to hear your thoughts on this if you get a minute. (just trying to get some background info for something) Thanks. Here's a pic with what I'm talking about with the wings

I was just joking, from what I've seen of your other posts I kinda figured that this would be your reply.

I have a question about the topic, are we talking about a movie made in Japan or one made by Hollywood? Because if we are talking about a Macross movie made in the US just give it Michael Bay and he'll put enough explosions to make anyone (maybe even Duke?) happy.
-
We called it. 'Dibs' (just in case) Now that makes me wonder just when that was started and by who.
-
You're walking down a hall and at the end are two doors, one marked 'Macross II' and the other 'Macross 7' where do you go, and no, back down the hall is not a choice! I'm okay with Macross II, will let you about 7 when I finish it ( on episode 25 as of now, and not feeling it yet)

Okay everyone ease down, I think what the problem with many Americans is that they get trapped in whatever type of movies/music/outlook on life/whatever they like and don't take something for what it is and give it a chance. I say Americans because that is what I am and that's what I know, I'm sure it happens all over. Take me, there have been times when a friend of mine will bring one of their friends with them over to my place and sometimes you can see the double take as they look at my place. Why? Because to those who kinda know me, they may have met me at the shooting range and saw me drive off in my F150 and go from there on thinking what I'm like, then see that on one wall of my place I have all my tactical and hiking gear, and on another wall are racks of anime and manga. Many people will not watch something for any number of stupid (IMHO) reasons, maybe they don't like an actor's religious or political outlook. I have taken the time to sit many friends down and show they one anime or another and for the most part after they tried it, they liked it. So if people in the US don't get that Macross is as much if not more about music than mech and go to see it at the movies and are thinking that it is another 'Transformers' (nothing wrong with that movie, I love it) they probably will not like it, if they go with an open mind, maybe they will, maybe they won't but at least they gave it a chance. Not trying to piss anyone off here just what I think on matters.
