I voted SNES. Great system, lot of great games, and lot of great memories (Zelda, Megaman X, Mario World, Mario Kart etc... I think many people can relate to this NES and Gameboy would be #2 and #3. Special award for the Playstation because it set the standard for the "retarded>good" game ratio.

I totally agree.

Indeed, indeed.

Ghost prototype . It's actually confirmed in the caption in japanese: Mysterious craft(s) seen on the deck of the Asukua. Seems like a prototype of the UN Forces unmanned fighter Ghost.

First, thanks Graham for the pics :-) It's a nice looking design, too bad it looks like the bastard child of a Gundam and of Valkyrie. Mr Gundam and Ms Valkyrie probably did it during one of these SRW hot meetings

Yeah that's SRW Alpha Gaiden. It was released a couple years ago on Playstation. For those who don't know it, Super Robot Wars is a series of strategy/tactical rpg games featuring mechas from famous japanese cartoons from the 70s to ours days. The line-up changes from a game to another, but generally the Super Robots series and the Gundam series get the lion share. Alas Macross is the unloved child of the gang so it's only featured in 3 SRW games (someone correct me if I'm wrong): SRW Alpha for PSX/DC SRW Alpha Gaiden for PSX SRW D for GBA (Macross 7 this time)

This kind of stuff just make me wish a giant asteroid hit Earth and destroy all mankind in the process.

RT Battlecry is available in Europe on PS2 and GC, or at least in France (the game is still in English IIRC).

The Sugoi has pics from Macross Zero vol. 3: http://www.the-sugoi.com/compose.php?Ndate...21092003&Nnum=1 I quickly looked at the first page of the forum and it looks like it hasn't been posted yet. Mods, If I'm wrong, please delete this topic.

Hi ! There are at least two ELS enthusiasts on MW: Roycommi and me. Personally, I worship this game. Like I said many times, I enjoy more the non-Studio Nue projects and their settings than the recent Studio Nue projects (from Plus to Zero). And ELS is my favorite of these non-Studio Nue projects. Here are my thoughts about the game: Story: It may not be the brightest story ever (OMG more Zentradi invaders), but the development and plot twists are very good for a game of the era. Plus the game has a very nice DYRL-style setting/atmosphere, and you can't beat that. Furthermore it makes a pretty good job at describing the era between the original generation and Macross II. Characters: Nice set of characters designed by Mikimoto himself and brought to life by confirmed voice actors. You basically have three line-ups of characters in this game: The new heroes (KiryĆ», Letlade, Lyle etc...) The characters from Macross 2036 (Maria, Lott etc...) The veterans from the original series (Britai, Exsedol). The cast of good guys is completed by an interesting cast of villains, complete from the Big Bad Guy to the Henchmen Of the Level. The game itself: Most of the Macross games suck if you remove the "Macross factor" (you know what I mean), but this one manages to stand out by itself. It's your average Strategy RPG with 30-something levels. Difficulty-wise, it's not a hard game but it will keep you playing for a long time nonetheless. Graphics etc... were very good for the time and are still nice provived you can appreciate something other than the newest 3D games. Special mention to the animated scenes before and after each map. These scenes (complete with macross music and voice acting) do a great job at telling the story. Great scenes with a good old-school-Macross feeling. Of course Mikimoto designs help a lot :-) My only complaint: The game should be ported to Gameboy Advance, or better to a PS2/GC with extended missions and animation clips.

Damn that's such a nice design I wish we could get more Macross II (side-stories etc...)

The 2nd book was more than rumor. It was advertised on the back of the belf of the Kawamori book. It was called "Miyatake Kazutaka Macross and Orguss Design Works", and was supposed to come by winter 2001 (oh, crap). By the name of the book you can tell it was to include the ships, destroids and zentradi stuff done by Miyatake. Too bad it was obviously scrapped :-(

Macross 7 is a manga (comics) spin-off the Macross 7 TV series. The designs are gorgeous (best attribute) but the story-telling is retarded (worst attribute). It's not surprising since Mikimoto Haruhiko is a character designer and not a mangaka. To sum it up, he can draw good but he sucks at story-telling (and this is coming from a big Mikimoto fan).

Thanks for the advice guys. Plot and chara-dev is what I want so I'll definitely buy it.
-
I've seen the movie, and here is how I would rate it: Story: Excellent, I want more of it Mecha: Very good although not my favorite style Chara: I really can't get into this crazy style Is the manga worth importing for me (ie is the manga focused on story/chara development or cheap action and fan service) ?

Welcome to Archeology 101. :-)

OK, but what if it's an obvious Macross doppleganger ? Would you watch the Super Dimension Stronghold Nacross ?

Great ! Translating is also a hobby of mine so I know how it's a pain and a reward at the same time. Keep up the good work !

Yeah, kinda like the Macross 7/Plus thing. The 2 projects were being done at the same time so some of the Froating Team were having difficulties working on both (*cough*Mikimoto*cough*). Anyway, I'm eager to see what the Froat Lord has in store for us, be it a new Macross series or a fresh departure. I'm one of these filthy people who haven't been hooked by Zero so I've big hopes about this. B)

While the Gundam Way makes a lot of crap (ie the non-Tomino stuff) it keeps the franchise flying high and it keeps the fans happy with a lot of stuff. Even if a lot of the materials and goodies suck, there is still a lot of high quality stuff you can pick if you choose carefully. With Macross, I feel there is a lot of wasted potential. Oh, I agree with the fans who don't want Macross to be a "popular anime" with all the crap and the dumbing it carries but com'on. Like someone said, Big West should have concentrated on making more Macross after the initial big hit of TV and DYRL?. A lot of people will agree with me these 80s projects are the best Macross ever. And I kinda resent the Froating Gang for not making more Macross projects in the 80s, especially since I think their skills were at their best at this time. Who know, maybe we missed the Zeta Gundam of Macross ? I feel the Froating Gang was enough creative to come with interesting stuff at the time with reharshing too much. The release schedule is Macross series is almost comical, I mean a handful of new projects every 10 years ? That's hard to keep a fandom entertained at such a rate, especially when each new project is so different from the others than it's hit-or-miss. *cough*Macross 7*cough* Don't get me wrong I do respect Froatlord Kawamori's way of handling his work, but at some point I wouldn't have minded some Gundam-style pumping. At least enough to provide us with more than a loose package of a couple TV and OAV series. I WANTED MORE 80s MACROSS (CRY) PS: I've experienced the phenomon with my japanese friends (and even my teacher, lol). Gundam is f*cking omnipresent in their mind, but they have to try hard to remember Macross. Japanese friend: Woah ! This is a Gundam ! Char Aznable ! Zaku ! RX-78 ! Ah Ah Ah ! Garma wa shinda, naze da ? Mieru ! Ah Ah Ah ! Yoshi: Yeah. Japanese friend: And that one... That's Mack-Boss... hum no... Mack-Force... hum wait a minute... Mack-Cross or something like that... Help me ! Yoshi: (dead)

Wasn't Studio Nue involved in M2 in some way? They were just credited out of respect (and out of copyright), like the old man Tomino is credited in the crappy Gundams he didn't work on.
-
Very very nice. We Macross fans need to show more love to the Non-Studio Nue stuff. :-)

As far as I know, it's indeed glass. Maybe some kind of future-super-strong-glass, but some kind of glass anyway. It's a very weak point of the design, but you got to remember the Megaroad-class emigration ship was built (or should I say scratch built ? ) from the hull of the unfinished 2nd Macross-class warship. It isn't the best planned design of the world, and that's probably why the Megaroads are afforded large escorts of Zentradi/UN ships.

I hope they will do a mass production version. Of course this version will follow the canons of the genre: It'll turn the user into a nameless guy who may or may not explode for no reason. :-) -- Main Old Japanese Person "John Mukiko": Ah ah I'm the main character of the retirement castle, therefore I use a glamorous, shining version of the suit. Bandai will soon release a plamo version of my suit. :-) Anonymous Old Japanese Person: Is there a chance Bandai make a plamo version of my suit, too ? Main Old Japanese Person "John Mukiko": No way, you're to the retirement castle what the VF-1A is to Macross. Anonymous Old Japanese Person: Argh Captain they're coming... they're coming from every.... BOUM ! Random Fanboy: Wow I love this anonymous guy who die for no reason. Let's petition Bandai so they make a side-story about him ! EDIT: Seriously, this is awesome. I hope to see mechs under one form or another before I die.
