Awesome! We'll have to get some CRUD going back at the company. For anyone wondering about Port-a-potty shuffleboard, it's a far more straightforward game. You see, the military uses port-a-pottys everywhere these days. Unfortunately, they have a tendency to place them very close to helicopter landing zones for whatever reason. Portapotty shuffleboard is played with a standard sized polyethylene outhouse, unanchored and on a hard surface. The object is to see which pilot can send the john furthest on an approach to landing. Some basic rules: -Approaches must be flown to the same general point and to the ground -Hovering and hover pushing the portapotty is considered a foul -Excessive pitch on ground taxi or use of ground taxi to push is a foul -If the portapotty tips over, it is considered a foul (in every sense of the word) and the score does not count. -Bonus points are awarded (to be determined by the judges) if a person was doing their business inside while the "puck" was in play -I claim no knowledge of said game or it's rules when anyone the rank of Major or over catches you in play. I missed out on the tournament in the Dominican Republic this past month, but I hear the winner sent it over 80 feet.

"Definitely not anything like a VF-4." -Official statement from The Cult of the Lightning It looked more like a VF-2SS from Macross 2 as someone had suggested about 8 pages ago with some hints of the original ghost and the FAF CF fighters in Yukikaze. My favorite moment was a scene from the mall that touched me kind of personally. Alto: Why do people sing or want to fly? Even to the extent of going into space? Sheryl: Isn't it obvious? Like we could do anything else. Alto: Is that right...I fly because I'm meant to. I could really relate to Alto here, moreso than normal, and in that instant, felt a connection to Sheryl. It's like "Here's a chick that gets it. That understands my passion, and has one of her own." For that fundamental understanding of what makes a person tick, I don't think their could be a better pairing then Alto and Sheryl. With Ranka it would simply be a superficial need to nurture and protect. Someone had stated earlier that this development of Sheryl's relationship with Alto comes at the expense of Ranka's. Based on the feedback in this thread and my own reactions to the episode, I'd wager that the same could be said of Sheryl's and Ranka's relationships with the viewer. Ranka is cute and came out of her shell, but Sheryl won big here. Now if only I could find a girl like Sheryl. -
LOL. You and me both. Good to see you back around! What's Crud? Is that anything like Port-a-Potty Shuffleboard?
-
Excellent work! Ranka FTW. BTW, did seeing Ranka in that outfit doing her talent make anyone think of Miss Congeniality and the water glasses?
-
Not so sweet? I still think it's a cool model, but I was always partial to the fanplanes.
-
Must've been a server issue because I can't seem to replicate it today.
-
Does the import from 3ds to max usually work out well? I've found that using a 3ds format as an intermediary from another program tends to make the model a single element object with some funky geometry. Although, that may be more due to my lack of experience with many aspects of max (it's a big program) than anything else.

I seem to have found a bug with the forum that will show an hour difference on posts depending on when the page loads. I did a screengrab, hit refresh, and did another grab to illustrate as below. I'd be curious if anyone else is having this problem, or if its an issue on my end.
-
Truespace? Wow. I got my start in 3d modeling on Truespace 2. Seems like chillyche already has the cockpit covered in .max format. WOZ, didn't you have a really sweet looking fan racer or fan liner as well?
-
Oh, did you finish it already!?!?
-
Doesn't let me skip the errors, but don't worry. I'm starting from scratch because I have some pretty slick reference material I found on deviantart. I think this guy may be a MWer in the models forum as it was done for a 1/8th scale Misa custom. http://celsoryuji.deviantart.com/ It will be easy to make, so give me a few hours of working time. I'll post some WIP shots later.

That's what I was trying to imply by comparing his likeness to JRock sensation Camui Gackt a half a thread ago. -

I don't mind the main group being PMCs. I do take some issue with in a fleet of thousands of trained military pilots (2-3 years schooling, countless flight hours) that they'd have to hire high school kids who couldn't have more than a few hundered hours of flight and sim time. I mean surely there must be a few Gamlin Kizakis amongst the ranks of CF. While kids piloting mecha is a tradition as old as the mecha-genre itself. This take on it really challenges my suspension of disbelief. I mean in SDF:M it was out of necessity to put the teens in. Evangelion they were the only ones who could synch. etc etc. With Frontier it's because...they don't have to pay them as much or what? Perhaps this is just me as the aforementioned school-trained military aviator, refusing to believe some snot-nosed high schooler with a cessna 172 could hop into a next generation aircraft and outfly me. Oh, and I am all for KK, and the Loli-traedy challenges my suspension of disbelief far less than SMS's human resources department. I think the concept is funny and enjoyed her interactions with Mikhail/Michael. But then again, I enjoyed Macross 7 as well. -
Hmmm... this thread does keep popping back up every now and then. Here's a small dump of some sketches, WIPs, and other images that I did during my tour in Iraq. Some of it's early on concept work, some of it towards the end, but nothing since 06. I think the later, scrapped comics look way better than the first one, but even they're not quite where I wanted to be in terms of artwork. The Puking Dogs will be back. I promise. EDIT: Oh, and looking at Maria again, I totally beat Macross Frontier by 3 years with the idea of going to high school and flying a Valkyrie.

"You see, when the Mormons first arrived, they didn't have any money... " "They should've done DVDA." Anyway, nice work with the AMV. I'm not a big fan of the song (to each his own, right,) but it was well timed and the lyrics suited the scenes.

Thanks again to Gattai for a speedy release on this one. I'm loving this series more and more with each episode. The only thing that concerns me at this point is the number of supporting characters. However, I suppose if they introduce and flesh out a bunch now, there won't be as much 'redshirt syndrome' later. My Bet on the Triangle: Sheryl passes the torch of Idoldom to Ranka and then disappears from public view with Alto at her side. EDIT: Original post was going off-topic. -

I thought more like that, since Kawamori created the gates for beebop. I seem to recall him doing an interview about the gates on one of my DVDs. -
Yup, got em. Just starting to play with them now. EDIT: Actually, my Max 8 doesn't seem to like the file. It's complaining about missing classes and I think it makes mention of Illustrate. Not sure if this is an issue with version compatibility or the additional software you're using.

Nice. I prefer spline modelling myself when working with scans like this, but to each his own. My only complaint is that I don't think Mou Ichido Love You was the best choice for BGM. I mean it's a really low-key, almost melancholy, ballad. It's one of my favorite Macross tracks, but I think one of the more upbeat tunes would have been a better choice. I'd use something to get people excited about the project.

Lookin good! I just got back from my travels, so I'll be breaking out the tablet and max again to have a go at the DYRL cockpit. However, if there is someone here that has one in .max format it'd save me some extra work, and I can move onto something else.

Wait...this isn't the next Yatta is it?

In Macross 7 Trash, there was a whole ship in the M7 fleet dedicated to being a cemetary. It's where the protagonist lived. Perhaps they valued the idea that everyone will make it to the final destination. -
I'm not sure whether I'm more blown away by the quality of some of the impressions like the last one that wolfx posted, or how quickly this is catching on. I thought Macross was supposed to be the obscure treasure trove of Mecha fanboys, with a little pop-music mainstream spillover, not something that everyone would have watch and said: "z0Mg! Nyan Nyan!"

Nah, the big secret here is that Brera Stern is actually a write-in for famous JRocker Camui Gackt. It will be the battle of Sheryl Nome's contemporary JPop versus Brera Sterne's classic JRock...in Valkyries. I'd almost believe this one too as Gackt is huge Gundam fan and did a Gundam tribute Album. -

Big thanks to AiA for the sub I downloaded this week. Ranka's completely loveable, Alto's growing on me, jury's still out on Sheryl, need to see more of the supporting cast, and... Does anyone else feel like having some Tuna Buns right now?
