No, the maneuver that the mercat and Hayate pulled of is a Pugachev's Cobra, modified with some Gerwalk shenanigans. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pugachev%27s_Cobra

Many a crazy theory about Gallia 4 being Earth, time travel and even Megaroad 1 were birthed on that day.

Nothing new, unless you're referring to the greyed out buttons for the Sv-262's Gerwalk and Battroid modes. -
Sio pao? Sio meow!
-
If you've ever had steamed buns (sio pao) or dumplings (sio mai) from a shady chinese restoraunt, you've probably already tasted cat.
-
I said it before, and I'll say it again, the girls dorm mercat (Querule?) looks like something out of a Keita Takahashi wet dream. EDIT: Needs to me stated, "umineko" is actually the Japanese word for seagull, or specifically the Black-tailed Gull which has a cat-like call.
-
umi (海) = sea neko (ネコ) = cat So seacat would be a more accurate translation.

The NUN isn't a one world government though.

We've had catlike aliens in othe science fiction franchises before, what makes having them in Macriss any different.

Have to remember that anime tends to have characters at that age for a reason. That's about the last time most people there are truly "free" before having to deal with entrance exams, finding work, joining the workforce, getting married, raising a family, etc. Japan is a high pressure society, and there's alot of societal pressure to do those by a certain age. Creating fictional societies that allow for youthful protagonists is just an extension of that. Well, it's not like they know that it's the Kingdom of the Wind behind the Var Syndrome. At this point anyway, it seems they're doing irregular warfare which us harder to trace back to them. If they do get found out however, I'm pretty sure politics is going to hold NUNS back from just mounting a full scale invasion. The NUN isn't a single large "nation" anymore, but rather a collection of multiple planetary and fleet governments, just witg a (on paper at least) single unified military. Heck, it's probably gonna take awhile for NUNS to even act (probably gonna call for a vote) which will mean Chaos will have to handle the brunt of the early fighting.

I gather the ship must also be actively pulling the arms up and adjusting for balance. -
Mid 20s would make the Walkure too old by idol standards.

Weird, usually the other way around (ring over middle) is harder to do
-
It really is all a joke since, in the span of one episode, we see Milia trying to stab Max on their first date, and then trying to burn water on their first night as a married couple.

The only ones we see in the cockpit is Reina with Chuck. Kaname could either be Messer or Arad. The former is seen to be actively protecting her, however it seems to make more sense to pair the squadron leader up with Walkure's leader, also we see them on what's either the bridge or op center. Mikumo we see having slipped away from Mirage so it stands to reason that she's the latter's charge. As for the recharge sequence, it was taken out from the TV size episode after all.

It's a joke. The only known Zentraedi mating ritual we know is trying to cook with petrol.

Part of me is thinking that the folding deck somehow has something to do with it. -
Maybe it's because he's straight, and thanks to Milia, post SW1 Zentraedi mating rituals now mostly involve assault of some kind, so trying to do anything to Hayate would imply the wrong thing. It would also explain Guld attacking Myung in Plus. First comes love Then comes the stabbing Then comes the baby and a grandmother in law that keeps nagging.

Mikumo - Mirage Episode 1 seems to indicate as much, when we see Mirage frantically searching for her. Kaname - Arad Makes the most sense since they're both the "leaders". Might also play into drama/shipping when it's made noticeable that Messer goes to defend Kaname more often. Makimaki - Messer By default

Might that be the unnamed carriers seen in episode 1 of Plus (or were those supposed to be Gitmos)?

Might be built into the carriers. -
Japanese wiki lists a new character under the Aerial Knights section named "Qasim Eberhart" voiced by Shinnosuke Ogami, as well as a "Guramia VI" voiced by Masaki Terasoma.

IMO, an interesting setup would be Messer admitting that he likes Kaname (and vice versa) but saying that he can't, or doesn't want to do anything because he feels that he has no right to since she's an idol. It could be a subtle nod to that nasty bit of the idol industry.
