Seeing as it's smaller than most of the ships on the UNS post Space War 1, it really doesn't make sense to call it a Super Dimension Fortress. Although, the UNS does use smaller ships later on (with only the Zentraedi ones being really large). Possibly due to the fact that they can pack alot of firepower into these smaller that size may have been seen as a disadvantage.

While I don't think it serves as the battle section of a Megaroad class ship. It kinda does make sense for them to make more Macross class ships, it's iconic and it is a pretty decent design, one they have a bit more experience with. For all we know, there were a handful of these flagships serving with the UNS before they were replaced by the New Macross class. Heck, the ship used to film DYRL could actually have been the Global or any of its sister ships.

12 episides into the latest Macross saga, I've come to feel that one of the new series strengths is its refusal to out and out "tell" us anything and instead give us little clues and hints througout the episode. Of course it's not perfect, but it's better than alot of series which tend to simply give out everything as soon as it's convenient for something to be revealed.

True, actually, based on this and on episode 9, I think that the VF-25 (with super pack) is faster while the VF-27 is more manueverable. In episode 9, Brera seemt to be making shorter, tighter turns than Alto, but the latter was always able to catch up. What remains to be seen is how the VF-25 without super pack performs against the VF-27.
