It's a throwback to how the VF-1's gunpod stretched out a bit in battroid mode. -

Off course, that may not even be the Galaxy's bridge at all since from what we've seen, the Galaxy is basically unhurt. -

Good point, some of the lineart for Macross 7 depict the support ships being attached to Uraga and I think even Guantanamo class carriers. -

Might not be a window at all, but rather a sensor array similar to that on most Valk heads with the bridge being entirely VR based. -
VF-27, simply because it looks like one mean SOB, what with four engines plus that big gun

Meh, Kawamori and co. have trolled us so much in this series that if Alto came back on angel's wings surrounded by singing angels I wouldn't be surprised. -

Sadly, no one wants to get assigned to the Kakizaki as they never serve steak and are forbidden to talk about women at all times. -

I've a feeling that when Ozma and co. show up, they'll be handing Alto back his old VF-25. -

At the very least, I want to see it transform, I've a sneaking suspicion it's actually the top of the front bit of the Galaxy (which is suspiciously flat). -

Was out the whole weekend and was only able to watch the episode tonight. But that shot is quite interesting, it seems that the Battle Galaxy's bridge is more head-like, complete with a neck than that of the Battle Frontier. I wonder if this is because someone can actually jack into it and use it like a ship sized Ex-gear. -

My question is, when Alto flies through Ranka's "eye" why is it we get a flash of what seems to be the head/bridge of Battle Galaxy? Wouldn't it have made more sense to show Brera's 27, or something Ranka related instead? Or did they need to bait us with promises of Battle Galaxy vs Battle Frontier for the next ep? -

Sorry if I'm steering the discussion in a different direction, but at around 20:49 in episode we see a head that at first seems to be Brera's VF-27, until we notice a set of ship cannons right next to it. So it looks like we have our first look at Battle Galaxy. If anything, the "shoulder" seen at the right seems to indicate that it's still a New Macross Class ship but heavily modified as it's head doesn't match that of the other NMC ships we've seen. I wonder though if this indicates that even cap ships can now be controlled in VR (seems likely) or, if worse if they might even be controlled by remote? -
Actually, if the real tri-service were followed they would be the YFV-19 and YFV-21, and all valks would be FV-xx. Having the V in front as the modified mission code would designate them as staff transports.

Not really, the only thing from the SV-51's transformation in the YF-24 derived craft are the folding wings and the use of swing arms to move the upper torso area over the fuselage. Overall however, their transformations are closer to the VF-19, with the main difference being the wings and the use of the swing arms instead of the folding gullet to position to upper torso over the fuselage (which sits upright in the VF-19, VF-25 and VF-27 and not diagonally pointed downward as in the SV-51).

Are Variable Fighters Aeronautically Feasible?
d3v replied to Hereticpoo's topic in Movies and TV Series
That ventral area is the one major compromise in the VF-1's otherwise elegant design. IRL they'd probably have to put an array of small fins and slats on the head just to smoothen out the airflow and lessen the drag in that area (give it to some F1 aerodynamicists, those guys should know a thing or to about making odd looking designs aerodynamic ). Then again, you could simply say that the designers probably figured that the Valk would fight mostly in space and decided that drag wouldn't really be an issue. -
Nah, I'm sure the old man would find a way to warm 'em up quick like.
