Based on the AVFs designated mission, it seems more or less to be a fast, escape craft in case a SNAFU occurred in one of their missions and the pilots had to abort (but didn't want to eject). That's one thing I've been wondering about. What exactly is the classification of the Island Cluster ships ad Galaxy-type ships compared to earlier NMCs and what is the classification of the Battle section alone. The Battle sections of each do seem to be the same class, however the City/Island/Mainland section is clearly different. Are they now considered as a separate class from the City sections? Or are they not classified as a separate class/ship at all, but only as part of a ship?

Well it seems to be the trend nowadays and Frontier seemed originally slated to be Macross/Kawamori's take on this sub-genre. Blasphemy, without the love triangle, all we'd get would be Gundam with variable fighters. As convoluted as the triangle in Plus was, at least there were hints of a previous relationship as well as continued attraction between Isamu and Myung. The iffiest ones IMO are in II, where it Sylvie and Hibiki should have been given more time to develop as a couple and in Macross 7 where Basara should have been less... asexual.
