I feel your pain regarding the election advertising pollution. In Australia our federal election is tomorrow and I am looking forward to sunday so I never have to see another blitzkrieg of political advertising for another 4 years. And I don't care what SUV (or 4WD as they're called here). they still suck a hellava lot more gas than a medium/small sized sedan.

There is only one antidote. Go and watch a fluffy comedy anime to bring balance back to the Force. But watch something 'safe' like Slayers or Love Hina or Full Metal Panic. If you watch Excel Saga or Shopping Arcade Aneobashi it may crack your (now) fragile mind. SHINJIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the dvds yesterday and watched A New Hope. First of all Brilliant. Magic. I felt like a little kid again. And just to chime in on the audio problems, for about 7 or 8 mins just before the goodies arrive at yavin to after where they take off to attack the deathstar, there is no music score at all. When the fighters lauch, the big fanfare shold be pumping, but all I could hear was engine SFX. And during the battle, a few times the music fades down so low you can barely hear it. It's not just anal fanboy gripes, it's really noticeable. But apart from that it was magic. I had my 5.1 surround cranked and I got chills all the way through. The vision was perfect too, no glitches. PS - and one other thing.. is it just me, or the bit where obiwan rescues luke from the sandpeople, did they change the sound effect he makes to scare them off? it used to sound like a animal like scream, and now it sounds like a police car siren. PPS - all the matte effects were cleaned up, but there was one that made me laugh.. the bit where luke and han are in the Falcon's gun turrets shooting at the tie fighters, there's one shot of a tie fighter flying across the screen from right to left with a huge square matte 'halo' that follows its movement. How did they EVER miss that one when remastering the film??

yeah. it's taking this trend of digging up hammy 70's tv shows and making fun of them a little too far. The Green Lantern I thought would make a good comedy cos he's so cheesy in that green outfit, but the FF is still pretty big after all these years. I was looking forward to this, but after looking at the resumes of the leading cast I have dim hopes.

The actor playing Mr.Fantastic.. he's the guy who always plays Horatio Hornblower right? "by jove, I've spotted dr.doom off the starboard bow! raise the mainsail!"

I played the demo last night. My review: I enjoyed killing ewoks. (positive) The sniper rifle has no zoom. (negative) You get to play as a wookie. (positive) But not an ewok. (negative) Ewok spears (when they do hit you) tend to kill you *** very *** quickly. (strangely positive) You get to run around in an AT ST (positive) There are so many trees that you can't actually run anywhere (negative) You get to ride a speeder bike (positive) The speeder bike goes fast (positive) Speeder bike is about as accurate as US intelligence prior to the invasion of Iraq (negative) Multiplayer would be very cool indeed (positive) No jedi (positive) Weird focusing effect that makes the whole 'thing' kinda blurry and claustrophobic (negative) - I might recind this one as the more I think about it... Hmmm Stoopid and linear set-up of 'flags' (negative) The fact that you get slaughtered like a pig very quickly and fairly often (negative) The fact that I *** think *** I heard an 'ei-cha-wa-wa' (sic) when I smash an ewok's muck-hole. (POSITIVE) Will I buy the game? Yes. If only because of the fact that it will be filled with creamy multi-player goodness. OH! I had this once scene where I was in AT ST and came into a clearing with about 6 ewoks... I had a tear in my eye. It was beautiful... So very beautiful... Just how the movie should have been. I'm tearing up again...

yeah, what's up with that line change anyway? It's a throwaway line, and the original is funnier than the changed one. And it's not like "you don't taste good anyway" is rude or politically incorrect. The only logic I can make of it, is it's like when you start mucking around with a photo on photoshop and it starts to become addictive making touch ups and changes. That's the way I see GL is acting with the original trilogy.

Well all the reviews I've read have been raving about the 5.1 surround and the remastered print. And I can't wait 3 years for GL to bring out the 'definitive' collection. Plus, I might be getting it for free anyway. hehe.

Q4 is looking great! The soldier's armor suits look very Splinter-Cell-ish to me. Which isn't a bad thing.

I posted a topic on this one, and just in case everyone is hanging out in this topic I'll try again.. basically I had a little stuff-up applying clearcoat and need a little help.. I just finished airbrushing a couple of kits and bought some Gunze Sangyo Mr.Topcoat spraypaint to clearcoat the kits. In the past I've used Mr.clearcoat and Tamiya clear coat spraypaints and they've worked fine. This time, everything went a pearly opaque colour - you can really see the varnish. I assume I used too much as I don't imagine these paints would have an expiry date and go bad. Question.. is there any way to remove the varnish without having to repaint? It would pretty much mean starting again which makes me want to cry. PS.. Mr.Topcoat IS acrylic isn't it??? PPS - I did a test spray spraying lightly on a few pieces I was gonna throw away, and I got the same 'pearly' effect. Second question.. Can clearcoat in a spraycan go out of date and turn bad?

Please tell me this comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek. Of course! I meant that it would be a shame to get locked into following one set of characters when you've got such a rich universe like this one (universe = figuratively not literally in this sense, haha.) That's one thing I really have to give kudos to George for - he's created a an amazing universe with SW (again, figurativley!!) Or, hired an amazing team, depending on how cynical you want to be. Diverting the topic away from said disaster, has anyone ever bought a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special bootleg on dvd? PS, I actually remember seeing this on TV in australia, I would have been like 3 years old. Back then I thought it was fantastic. Children are so forgiving.

My worthless thoughts: TV series Can have substantial budgets, ie Friends. And I'm sure the SW tv series will have a bunch of nobodies in it so 99% of the budget will go on effects, and in this day and age especially with Lucas EP'ing it will all be in front of greenscreen. Also, all the effects work will be done in-house at dreamworks so it will keep the cost down. And on the series, I think a post ep-3 would be the best as there's the most conflict there and it'd be cool to watch the Empire consolodate its hold on the galaxy, and see the design style from the old movies creep in more and more. Downside to this would be that you couldn't have any jedi running around doing cool jedi stuff as they're all dead. And I can't see how this series won't be like Star Trek, where we follow the adventures of a half dozen people around as they do 'stuff' - fight the empire, etc. So maybe a post ep 6 series would be better? But againk if it's like star trek, we'll probably get both as well as a 'Knights of the Old Republic' type show.
