  1. that's a good point. Blacks and greys look much better painted as they are a lot 'richer'. I have about 10-12 MG kits now and most are painted. The 2 other unpainted ones I have that looks fine are the EZ-8 and Gouf Custom. I painted the dark blue parts but left the light blue unpainted. Although I will proabably go back and do it again so I can weather him.
  2. Whoa there....an Appleseed TV series? I've never heard of this. Is this instead of the proposed sequels to the movie that the producers had hinted at? I read that a couple of weeks ago on Animenewsnetwork. There's gonna be 2 movie sequels and a full tv series. here's the article: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=6489
  3. don't worry, sebastian is only joking.. right? lol. The decals that come with this kit are the dry press kind. But to get them right you have to cut them out then tape them to the right spot with a little masking tape. then I take the handle of a teaspoon or something similar that's metallic and not sharp and scratch and scratch and scratch the tape covering the decal so it will come off nice and clean. (and thanks to Sebastian for that tip!) I may be just going crazy, but does the temperature affect how east the rub on decals come off? It's getting cold where I live, and I was applying decals on my new MG Dom and they were a bitch to get right. Then I tried using my wife's hair dryer to warm up the decal before I peeled the backing off and it came off fine.
  4. I watched that movie Napoleon Dynamite yesterday.. and in his words, "SWEET!" The Gouf cannon looks like it was made for a GU. Man, the next time I'm drunk at home I'm gonna steal my Gouf's gatling too. Sorry little guy, it's for a greater cause.
  5. I know what you can do you your zaku.. except for the grey parts on the kit, it looks fine unpainted. really! OK. I am lazy..
  6. Shut your mouth sebastian! here's 3 quick pics of my zeta. It's unpainted but has panel lines and all decals applied. all of the grey lines are done with a mechanical pencil. The flash kills the detail a bit..
  7. the SEED kits come in super-cheap 1/144 and then 1/100 HG. The HG's look good but are not as detailed and have less parts than the MG kits. then you have HGUC kits, which are 1/144 and I guess are like the MG equivalent. Well, For least mess and most ease, use the mechanical pencil. I've used it on all my lighter colour kits and it looks great and has a uniform result. When I get home I'll take a pic of my Zeta for you. I also use a 0.1 fine point marker and wipe off any excess with my finger. But make sure not to get any inky fingerprints on your kit! And with gundam kits, you don't need to mask at all. You just paint the pieces seperately or partially build it then paint.
  8. I built this kit too. I have to admit, I didn't paint it but was really thorough with the decals and it looks great. I bougt it on the colour scheme alone. Let me know if you transform yours.. I never did mine! You can get away without painting the MG's but I wouldn't with the HG seed kits. I did a Strike HG a long time ago and didn't paint it and now he's in the Carboard Box of Shame (where my starwars figures live) Especially now I've got a PG strike, painted, weathered and decalled. but painting is pretty easy, and when you shake off the procrastination it doesn't take very long. edit - I also panel-lined my Zeta Test kit with a mechanical pencil. If you want panel lines that don't stand out as much as a black marker, espcecially on a lighter coloured kit like this, go for a pencil.
  9. I painted the whole kit. I airbrushed black weathing on first (which you can't see in the pic much), then did the red and white parts over the top. I added a leftover decal to his thigh from the PG Strike kit too. I painted his knuckles white with a hand brush.. they look a bit crap! The astray is a really cool kit. I love the Samurai warrior look he's got. All up it was only half a day's work.
  10. You have to put a bit more effort into them to make them look good. but they turn out pretty nice. Here is a 1/100 Red Astray I finished about a week ago. http://img266.echo.cx/img266/707/astray017vf.jpg Back on topic - I love these kits! I'm glad this topic was started as I was gonna buy a Jedi starfighter toy but now I'll wait for the kits to appear in my local store (this is australia, so it might never happen..)
  11. OMG.. a Tiger Enema! yum.
  12. BT's Grimlock's roof is the same as Alt Grimlock's so that wouldn't make a diff. I know. which is the irony of it! I have to say I was proud of myself not getting angry at my wife when it happened.
  13. It's not the breakage that you have to worry about but the paint chipping. My 8 or so are all BT's and they've held up well. Except for poor Grimlock who got dropped down the back of the couch and got his roof all scratched.
  14. I cracked and bought it from TMP. Lord knows where I will fit him on my toy shelves..
  15. Where did you get those hands? They look uber sweet. they look like Master Grade hands probably from the Dom or Sazabi. chris They may come with a few kits but they are definitely MG Rick-Dom hands. I just built one. Unfortunately you only get one set of hands as all the knuckles move.
  16. I bought the blue BT Tracks because of the flame decal. It's funny how much I hated the yellow but loved the blue.
  17. it looks scarily real! Can you place it in front of a 'matte' background of a photo of a workbench with paint bottles etc? then nobody would be able to tell. And not that I am that great at weathering, but my 2cents I would be to remove the sideways black spray across the middle of the main body and the 2 spray marks just below the lasers on it's head (in the rear pic). And maybe put some weathering along the panel line on its hips (also in the rear pic)?
  18. How many moderators does it take to close a thread?
  19. Anyone seen any good pics of the finished Prowl? I've seen this one but it's a bit old I think: http://www.binalternators.de/prowl_english.html I came across some good pics of Swerve just then. But who the hell wants another Tracks variant? http://tformers.com/ig.php?mode=album&albu...ize=800&start=0
  20. I've had 10 kits partially built or not built at all. I recently finished doing renovations to our house we bought in january, so in the last 2 weeks I have been painting every night. To the annoyance of my wife! These kits are my first attempts at weathering/shading and I was happy how they turned out. It doesn't show up very well in my crappy pics. Next on the workbench will be the HGUC Marasai (half done), Hasegawa VF-0A, HGUC L-gaim kit, a PG Zaku (to my shame I bought this over a year ago and haven't started yet) and then a custom project for a Yamato VF-11b. whew! here's what I've finished: PG strike MG Rick-Dom 1/100 Astray ASTRAY HGUC 1/144 Xekueins And MG Gelgoog (more pics in the Gelgoog thread in Sci Fi Forum)
  21. Good points you make.. it's made me think twice about the palps/daddy thing. I too like to think that he had a hand in padme's death. I really loved the sadistic grin he had on his face when he tells vader it was his fault she died. He was relishing that moment like a fine wine.
  22. I agree. A late April Fool's joke perhaps?
  23. I guess they were too busy saving their own asses! But I am sure yoda and obi had plenty of time to think about it while sitting around and passing time on dagobah and tatooine. Here's an interesting article at Rotten Tomatoes about the comparison in reviews between the old & new trilogy. According to this, the new trilogy rated a lot better than the original. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=197859
  24. lol!! You are SO right.. How else did she afford all those c3-po parts for anni to play with?? and Drew WC - thanks for bringing some "balance" to the SW nerdiness! *ducks tomatoes for the bad pun*
  25. from a few pages ago it was suggested that Sidious created Anakin manipulating the midi-wotsies. But I think the discussion he had with Anakin in the theatre was mostly lies and half-truths to seduce him to the dark side. And I think it was made clear that Sidious did not have the knowledge to use the force to this extent, as later in the film he says to anakin they will search out the way to bring back the dead together. I think Anakin's creation was supposed to be one of those classic 'mysteries' where the Hero is born from divine influence, etc etc.
